- If I had a nickel for every time a Harry Styles fan fiction was turned into a book and then turned into a movie I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice, right? What are your thoughts on this movie? Will you be watching the Idea of You when it drops?

I read the book, and I will definitely watch this. It does not give me any ick factor. I'm there for Galitzine and Hathaway!
It feels to me that the fact that the book was inspired by Harry Styles blinds you to a compelling story of a 40 year old single woman with an older teenager daughter who has a relationship with a younger man. In the book the man is 20 which I was not comfortable with. In the movie they aged him up to mid twenties.
In society today women over a certain age are not 'allowed' to have certain experiences such as be in a relationship with a significantly younger man.
This story deals with their age difference, his fame and the crazy fans that comes with that, her daughter as well as society's expectations for her.
It's a beautiful story of a woman who rediscovers her womanhood as an older woman in society and the joy and pitfalls of being her authentic self.
Actually the author of the book based most of the character on John Taylor of Duran Duran. Look it up.

He is 25 in the movie and she is 40
He's 24 in the movie, and the mom has the kid but I think they aged up her kid a little bit you can see her in 2:26 and 4:11

In the book, he's 20 and the daughter 13, and in the movie he's 23 and the daughter 16!
Is not a fan fiction! A woman in her 50's wrote the book and just got inspired by Harry Styles for the character, because she wrote it in 2014/2015 when One Direction was big and published un 2016 after they broke up, but the book became a big deal in 2020 during the pandemic and when Harry started dating Olivia Wilde, so everyone thinks they are the inspiration!🤷♀️

It was inspired but not a fanfic. With caliber actors, Hathaway and Galitzine makes the movie rom com of the year.
This gave me weird vibes before I knew it was fan fiction. That makes so much more sense now. Lmfao.
