3/15/24 UPDATE: Let’s make a few things clear, Nex Benedict did not die from suicide. 1. Pushing someone to end their life is still manslaughter at best and murder at worst. Nex was bullied all school year and pushed to it. 2. You cannot die from diphenhydramine, an antihistamine unless you drink gallons of it. So, this medical report that was released today needs to be investigated by the DOJ and the family likely needs to do a private autopsy to find the true cause of death. Sadly, far-right terrorist groups are already celebrating Nex’ death because they would rather us dead than be alive and LGBTQ.

This child did NOT die from suicide! To say they did is f**king ridiculous! I'm so dang angry over all this! Thank you for covering this case! I'd love if you could look into the Alex Van Dalsen case. Alex was a 21 year old trans man from Layfayette, Indiana who was murdered but the police closed the case as it was suicide! The saddest part is I can already predict what the anti trans activists are going to say. They’re either going to call Nex’s death a “suicide” and use it to “prove” trans people are too mentally unhealthy to function in normal society, or they’re going to tell trans people that we’re “overreacting” and that Nex’s death could’ve been prevented had Nex stayed in the closet. If none of those outcomes happen, color me shocked.

As a trans floridian who graduated recently and narrowly escaped being bullied to death, stories like these scare me. I was grabbed, yelled slurs at, recorded, barked at (for some reason), anything you could think of during EVERY walk between classes. That was about 7 times a day, not even counting arriving and leaving, where the same things happened. It got so bad that I missed entire classes and almost failed, my only saving grace was that one of my guidance counselors allowed me to stay in their office during the day while I did work. During the last week of school. Only then did they do anything, and I only had one week to catch up, which I somehow did. So many times was I almost beaten up or thought about taking my own life, but I somehow pulled through.

There are places where what happened to Nex is not only routine, but not even illegal. In this country at least, laws exist to prosecute the people who did this should anyone care to enforce them. The best thing you can do for Nex is to make this incident unignorable. Go talk about it, and keep talking about it. That will make it harder for law enforcement to justify inaction.

As a teen in the 80s Brooklyn, NY, I had a really cool friend, very counter-culture, a bit of a pothead, and she introduced me to the first gay guy I ever met. As the years went by, we lost touch, only to reconnect in the 2010s when Facebook became a thing. In the interim, she'd had a terrible divorce, moved to Oklahoma, became a Reborn Christian, and got a job as an Oklahoma grade school teacher. I threw her off of my Facebook when the Republican Party decided that Transgenders were to be their new whipping boy, and she started posting demeaning, transphobic posts on her Facebook! The thought had occurred to me to find out what school she worked for and report her, but I figured, if anything, in a state like Oklahoma, they'd probably give her a raise for posting that ignorant crap! I'm sure my assumption was right, but I will Never make that mistake again! In the 80s, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, I marched in the NYC Pride Parades with a placard that read, "Silence Equals Death." That is just as true today as it was then. And I will never be silent in the face of ignorance and hate again.

Bathrooms in American schools were never safe. The valedictorian (smartest kid) at my high school graduated without one of his eyes because he was beaten in a bathroom. This was in 1976, so it was racial instead of homophobic. Boca Raton was mostly rich white families so to achieve racial equality, black kids were bussed two hours from a neighboring town and rebelled by smoking marijuana in the bathrooms all day. Staff and teachers would not make them go to class. Bathrooms were their turf. Last thing the kid said before his skull was fractured was "it'll be OK, I just have to pee".

Hi darling, love your channel. I am from Canada, i just read up on this story. My heart is so broken for this sweet child and their families and friends. This cruelty, this hate, this ignorance is so ugly. I do not understand this kind of hate. I am grateful i do not; however, i feel the pain, and its overwhelming. Take care everyone; be you! be proud...i love you!

When do you get the police involved at school? Surely there has to be a CPS child protection services teaming up with the police then work with the school like maybe have some sort of dedicated LGBT correction team teaming up with CPS teaming up then with the police, then govern schools, so they don’t do things like this.

Police are more likely to innact harm on LGBT people, esspecially trans people. Having police in a schools would put trans kids of colour, kids like Nex, at greater risk.

Oklahoma's police are just as corrupt as the school. They are the ones who said Nex's death didn't "seem to be caused by head trauma" to excuse the beat down from the older girls.

That’s probably what would happen. It’s the same political party that’s involved.

Agreed at this point I would be in favor of dissolving the states to make on singular nation

@@saqwana25 the Florida part of me says yes, the New York part of me sees a red flag. Who knows how bad it could get, we don't have protections like NY does in a LOT of places and IDK which direction it would go in if we all had the same laws, the supreme court has been very very bad lately. So that could be very dangerous.
