Neil Peart will always be my favorite drum solo artist. His song writing, precision, and making the drums a feature of the music, but when Smack does this, with the added guitars to compliment, its one of my favorite drum solos of all time. Its also amazing that Sully put the drum skills aside to be a great singer.
Awesome upload! When I first heard Shannon Larkin on a GS album I thought now that is the perfect hard rock drummer. When I see him perform live his flamboyant showmanship and relentless intensity never cease to amaze me. Maybe there are better drummers, but I bet none of them look better doing it live than Larkin. :-) Thanks for sharing.
This literally brought tears to my eyes it is so great...and all this time I always thought Sully was JUST a great singer..He is an AWESOME drummer as well!!
Saw them and Sevendust(my 5th time for Sevendust) in Shreveport LA a few months ago and they had the battle. That was one hell of a show and would love to see them again.
I went to Bigger day out in 2001... Godsmack was by far the best band there. My first concert and I had never heard a band who sounded better live than they did on their studio album... then Godsmack played. Blown Away.
I was gonna do something productive today... but then I got stuck on watching this over and over again... Now I can't remember what it was... so I'm gonna watch this a few more times xD
\m/ Awesome \m/ !!! Always the best part of show every time I have been. At Ozzfest(98 i think?), when Vinnie Paul came out and joined in, was one of the best concert moments I have ever witnessed.
The official title from Godsmack on the DVD says the word "Batalla" which means "Battle". Probably doesn't make sense here (aside from small sections), but that is the title!
we all know that Neil Peart whould tear Sully and Shannon to pieces, but it still doesn't matter considering this is by far one of the better drum battles/team plays out there :P but hating on Rush will not help anything :P
For all you people who make fun of RUSH...did you notice two of their songs in the end medley ?....YYZ and Tom Sawyer !!...Sully and Shannon both know how great Neil Peart is. Kudos Gentlemen !
Could someone tell me what year they performed this amazing Drum Battle!! This was truly a shock to me when I found out that Sully Erna was an extremely talented percussionist..not saying Shannon isn't as well.
@bajacore I totally agree, but back in the day when the 80's stuff was rocking, they had two drummers in one group. and yes I will be called names for this, but I don't care. Adam Ant had two drummers and they did rock at the time.
I remember seeing this live in Milwaukee back in 2003. Epic!
I return to this once in a while. Love it ever since !
me too
Who's here in 2024 for a nostalgia kick ?
I was fortunate enough to see this shit live. Great fucking time it was!
Right here! I saw this live in Pensacola FL in 2005. IT WAS AMAZING

I think both drummers have shown tremendous skill. The duet made for a great show, so worth watching.
This is not battle, it's harmony.
Not a fan of Godsmack but a fan of this drum battle! WELL DONE!
Seen them live twice in So Cal and in Denver. Bought the DVD in the Burlington, WA mall. Absolutely love this.

Very well written drum solo! I loved it when the payed tribute to Neil and John.

Blown Away.

we all know that Neil Peart whould tear Sully and Shannon to pieces, but it still doesn't matter considering this is by far one of the better drum battles/team plays out there :P but hating on Rush will not help anything :P

Now just imagine if they had two drummers of that caliber playing on every song. Shit would be epic!!!!
JESUS DO CEU!!! O QUE É ISSO, DEMAIS!!!!
Normally i prefer Shannon much more on the drums in Godsmack songs. But this duel theyre at least equal to each other.
Very well done both!

Should have been much longer...this is some sick shit! And Sully's kit is fuckin awesome!
For all you people who make fun of RUSH...did you notice two of their songs in the end medley ?....YYZ and Tom Sawyer !!...Sully and Shannon both know how great Neil Peart is. Kudos Gentlemen !
