Wow. I just found your videos today and your pieces are just gorgeous!!! ❤ I’m going to make a table for mom for Christmas from a live edge! I’ve never done before. I used a lathe in grade 8 it was incredibly satisfying!! It is also watching you!! So beautiful!! ❤
Hi 👋, Phil from Phil, I hope you are keeping safe and well, Great looking 👀 Vase , surprise in what he can do from a rough bit of log, Back in the early 80s I was given some mahogany boards and they had been left outside for a few years and they look very similar sort of colour so I definitely think you’re right mahogany, in fact, I’ll go as far to say that I might still have two boards in my locker back in the UK, something to look forward to, Splendid work , Phil from the moulin.
Good morning Phil, I rally love this one. As many others have said the contrast to between the finished and unfinished surfaces is just brilliant. Great video as ever and time for a new hot cup of tea. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Simply beautiful Phil. What a great decision not to put any finish on the base section. Wow it looks so cool with the amazing finish you got on the turned part. Not until you got if off the lathe and showed us did the real beauty show up. Almost looks like an emerging bottle. I kept waiting for it to just rise up out of there. But after a few hours I stopped waiting LOL Lots of great tips in this video as well. Seeya! Gary
Thank You Phil, Thank You Joe from Louisiana... First glance at the outside I thought dry Eucalyptus. When I saw the heartwood & what you said I figured Mountain Mahogany? Well Phil this one turned out just fine. Quite an attractive piece. Not just nicely turned but also learning (and we all continue to learn until the bitter end) how to read a piece of wood and what it takes to have success & you had success with this piece. Until next time ... TM
Beautiful spin carving. I had to laugh while you were turning. I was holding my phone watching your video. My phone slipped out of my hand at the same time as you had a chip out. So you can blame me for the chipping. Another great turning and a beautiful vase.
I think you could call that the fighting Mountain Mahogany Phil, still you were victorious in the end and nice to see you do another spindle turning. Good job Phil. 😁
Well that wasn't where I thought you were going with that but wow, you done good Phil. Iike the smooth shiney finish in contrast to the gray natural edge. The wood, of course, is fantastic and you brought out its beauty perfectly.
It’s good to look a little old. No cracks, but I have wrinkles! 71 and still running! Vase turned out pretty! Love the natural look you always leave! Thanks again, Phil!
It took as long to remove the tenon as it did to turn the whole vase. I love that you left the bottom natural. I thought the hardwood when you applied the finish would have been a lot more red in color. Beautiful vase Phil. Thanks for the show. Joel
Great looking piece Phil, the finish came out great, I do look forward to your next video we never know what to expect. Thanks Phil I really do enjoy your videos .
Hi Phil. Love the unturned wood. A delicious contrast, thank goodness you didn’t feel the need to put any kind of finish on it. Great piece. Regards Richard
Hi Phil, a wonderful creative turning. Love the jam chuck idea for removing the tenon although I was holding my breath half expecting that crack in the side to pop open. All the best from the UK, Mike
Hi Phil what a wonderful wood. I like how you kept the bottom half naturally it looks cool the old weathed lokk is brilliant. The vase is magnificent well turned Phil. Amanda xx
Well you did that little piece of wood a big favor! A sight for sore eyes!! Love it, as usual!! You always give me something beautiful to enjoy! Thanks!! 09/21/23
Well, that looks like a fun project! I used to make some bud vases that could easily be mistaken for small bowling alley pins. They were made from curly maple that were rejected from a guitar maker. They turned out ugly but gave them as Christmas presents to neighbors I didn't really like, so I got bonus niceness points for my efforts. Even as ugly as they were, they were displayed proudly! Some people just have no taste!
Beautiful results as usual but I would have been scared to death that it would explode with all the cracks that were showing , a very brave endeavor by one of the most talented natural turners
Good evening, Phil. I like your emerging vase. It is still amazing seeing what is inside a piece of wood. Thanks you for exposing the beauty. All the best to you.
Nice save Phil. For a while I was beginning to think that this might be a video about making wood chips rather than a vase. Those cracks can be a disaster when turning a log in a spindle format. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Phil, Another beautiful piece. I love the fact that you just turn what you get. I had to start doing my own just to experience the beauty and challenge of every piece of odd shaped wood. And I couldn’t feel how wonderful your pieces feIt, I could see them, but not feel them. So by learning from you I’m blessed with I hope the same excitement you have with a gorgeously soft smooth finis,. touching them is a wonderful thing.
Phil I love the way you can take any piece of wood and make something beautiful out of it. There are no mistakes, only opportunities to make it different.
Bonsoir Phil ! Jean-Luc
That is some really pretty wood; the grain is just awesome. Another great piece; I like the contrast between the weathered base and the highly finished top.
Great piece Phil. The turned and finished portion is so elegant, especially against the rugged, weathered gray of the unturned portion. Beautiful piece.
Hi Phil... Well.. that piece of wood didn't make your work easy... Your persistence paid off and you produced a lovely bud vase... Great job as always... Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
Spot on, i must admit with all those little crack's did wonder how it would finish, but hey we talking Phil Shady Acre here, i should of known better, Great finish Phil, lovely job. All the best from Lincolnshire UK
Holy Moly Phil - for a simple bud vase this one has it all! I love the colour of the finished part, and the natural weathered cracked edge of the un turned part is gorgeous 👍👍great to see you Phil, pleasure to watch!

You are right Phil, it doesn’t look good, it looks great. It is amazing how you can see and bring out the best in an ordinary piece of wood.
Thank you, Doug! 😊
That piece of wood went from November mists to Autumn Glory, so very pretty.
Cool, thank you, Margaret! 😊

Beautiful spin carving.
I had to laugh while you were turning. I was holding my phone watching your video. My phone slipped out of my hand at the same time as you had a chip out. So you can blame me for the chipping.
Another great turning and a beautiful vase.
LOL! OK, I blame you, John! 😊
👍 Great save! I really like the colors on this one.

I think you could call that the fighting Mountain Mahogany Phil, still you were victorious in the end and nice to see you do another spindle turning. Good job Phil. 😁
Thanks a lot, Lewis! 😊
Well that wasn't where I thought you were going with that but wow, you done good Phil. Iike the smooth shiney finish in contrast to the gray natural edge. The wood, of course, is fantastic and you brought out its beauty perfectly.

That certainly shows the beauty with in, brought to life with the crafter’s hand. Great work.
Thank you, Dale! 😊
It took as long to remove the tenon as it did to turn the whole vase. I love that you left the bottom natural. I thought the hardwood when you applied the finish would have been a lot more red in color. Beautiful vase Phil.

Hi Phil, a wonderful creative turning. Love the jam chuck idea for removing the tenon although I was holding my breath half expecting that crack in the side to pop open. All the best from the UK, Mike
Haha, luckily, no flying wood in this one, Mike! 😊
Looks great Phil. Aside from the bark, on camera, it looks like it could be some sort of cherry. Whatever it is, it is pretty darn nice!

Many thanks, Chris! 😊
LOL! Thanks for the chuckle, Robert! 😊
That turned out very cute Phil. Beautiful!!

Beautiful results as usual but I would have been scared to death that it would explode with all the cracks that were showing , a very brave endeavor by one of the most talented natural turners
Thank you, Bob! 😊

Nice save Phil. For a while I was beginning to think that this might be a video about making wood chips rather than a vase. Those cracks can be a disaster when turning a log in a spindle format. Thanks for sharing.
You just need to be sure the cracks have a stopping point, Jim. 😊
Always a great way to wind down a Thursday night. Just a lovely piece Phil. Thank you for sharing
Thank you, Albert! 😊
