But I believe each captain has two songs Bones and compass are the youngest captain, he then retired and told these tales to his child. Tide and sea may be the same man as both want to just get through the sea no matter what. With shadow and unsinkable being Mr. Joe’s songs, his ambition and folly.
with the new song i have a diffrent theory, all of these songs are song from the captain from tales of shadows. he is often seen at broken mast bay, but nobody knows he is the captain of the Shadow. and these storys he tells them to anyone who listen as he met these captains. and in some of them he has apered speaking to directly. like in compass Joe is the old man speaking to the young guy in compass, and in the song Broken mast bay we see him looking at the guy who met the selkie holding an ore.
I love how your songs are always telling stories and in a very "picture-like" way, you feel like you had the ship and the crew in front of your eyes and you were actually seeing them following orders and fighting fantastic sea creatures and the waves... is pure magic (Sorry for the poor English, not my first language)

Once they completed their task and were no longer useful, he ordered them to be keelhauled. They now roam the Phantom Sea as the undead , all the while seeking their retribution.

I actually use this song combined with 'Tale of the Shadow' as theme music for a legendary pirate, who actually gets turned into the God of piracy after claiming a legendary ship. This ship however binds his soul to it and turns him divine, while also taking his sight and the souls of his crew. Now the ghosts of his crew tend to the ship which was teleported to the heavens and has to guards the see between heaven and hell for eternity. Serving as both a reward and a curse to it's captain, who became an Immortal divine, but also has an eternal purpose and who cannot see with his eyes anymore.
What i believe the timeline is. Leave her johnny: when the crew got into a huge sailing insident and he is left. Leaving that ship behind sadly. Broken mast bay: him meeting the woman and being her lover. (Also in there he says the sailig insidebt that further helps the first one) Compass: Retelling the first two tales along with his origin. Unsinkable: Him being a captain again and fearless in summary. Bones: him retelling his story as a cabin boy and what hapoened to the captain he served before. The child is a part of the crew by one of the other adults. Tale of the shadow: him becoming a shadow and cursed to be libked with the ship forever. The phantom sea: the author (aka i call him north) tells the tale of the captain after becoming a shadow. So the wholetime is Joe/Johnny's story and North (the author) telling us with this song of his end.
So I ended up finding this song by complete chance a few days ago, and by GOD I am addicted. Your vocals are beyond fantastic and the instrumental combined with the lyrics really brings the image of a haunted man in a tavern, drinking his fifth mug of ale, singing the tale of a pirate and its crew lost to sea. Hell, he could even be the last remaining survivor that managed to escape one way or another. Just my imagination running wild again, though. This is awesome.
