I met Sugarfoot by chance. he was at the Ohio State fair mid 70's. I work in a 7up tent by the stands and was walking around the back and hear, "hey little man" I was around 13. he wanted to know if the stands were filling, he was in a small trailer looking out a small window. after a few minutes he told me to take off before someone notices him...his signature hair was an easy spot for me to realize who he was..I think of those moments everytime the ohio players are on the radio even after 40 plus years..most of it's faded but I can still see him looking out the window with the doo..
Hopefully these fine artists will claim a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ashame they're not there yet. They were a very gifted group. The seventies. Decade of the bands! One of the greatest memories of life. Always remembered Ohio Players. RIP✊🏾
There will never be a Ohio class ever again, including mandrill, a war BT Express. Rest in peace thanks for the music, the 60s and the 70s and 80s. And thank you youtube front having this this
junie morrison!!! his style of singin was phenomenal!!! That piano jazz funk he had in "Pain,Pleasure, and Ecstacy!!!..i havent heard anybody trying to do that till this day...let alone the work he did as a solo artist...his solo album "Bread Alone" is still killin me in a beautiful way....listen to that then go to the work he did with george clinton and watch n see how sorry you`ll be that all that talent is gone.....i wish i had the opportunity to meet learn n play with that artist
Oh I loved them can remember them growing up! They were great! My mom listened to them often. Brings back great memories as a child. Sugarfoot could make that guitar talk!
My youngest brother LOVED the Ohio players. And so did I,had every album until someone stole THEM. Love Robert Ward and Robert Jones. My brother named Robert Jones was 2 years younger than me. He died from cancer like the Ohio Player Robert Jones😢😢😢😢
These were my top boys for real! Their music was the blueprint, and the soundtrack of my early development years growing up. Smoking weed to their music way back then was almost therapeutic! It was all about having fun, and enjoying the teenage years. Whether riding around, or chillin' at the crib, the Ohio Players was the true 'National Anthem'. (To me).
The first funk group I ever played in was influenced by The Ohio Players & Kool & the Gang (& for sure James Brown). This was circa 1971-72, & funkity funk was prevailing. What à time. Thank you, Ohio Players...
All of them were my favorite they were one of my favorite groups doing the seventies it's real sad but I think all of these guys have now passed God rest his soul in peace
The Ohio players were the Funk ticket in the early to mid 70s without a doubt! They were so heavy that Parliaments 'Give up the Funk (tear the roof off the sucker) is a style sample of the Ohio Players. That song got Ohio Players written all over it...(oww wee want the funk....nah nah nah nah na)...a pure style sample!
I just saw Billy Beck playing with the Ohio Players July 22 2023. He is still alive living in Youngstown Ohio and is currently touring with The Ohio Players to date 9/8/2023. The next tour stop is in 2 weeks in Detroit Michigan. "Facts"!👍🏾💯
I’m from and currently living in Youngstown Ohio and I know Billy Beck and he’s alive and well. He’s going to be performing in October 26, 2024 in Warren Ohio
I wanna be free the drummer diamond drum solo on that was in matched with surgarfoots singing lead it was a melo song with both a great drum solo in between ❤❤
Sugar foot ..pee wee MIDDLEBROOK...Marshall Rock Jones ...Clarence satchel.. are the only original members deceased from the band besides Junie Morrison
The Ohio Players is my favorite group and I followed them over 50 year. This is the worst representation that I ever saw because it wasn't the truth. Rumba is still alive, Robert Johnson last played with them in 1964, and many more lies. I think the narrative should have been investigated before broadcasting lies
No. Trumpet/ Trombone player Marvin "Merv" Pierce is still alive but no longer performing with the band. James"Diamond" Williams is still alive, leading the band to this very day and is as funky as ever on that kit. He is also number 72 on the rolling stones list of 100 greatest drummers. Keyboardist Billy Beck is still alive and performing this very day with the band , Guitarist Clarence "Chet" Willis is still performing with the band and Robert Kuumba Jones is still with us but no longer touring with the band.

These guys were totally awesome!!! Clarence Satch Satchell was my favorite. He could really move! I love this guy, with his big afro and smooth moves!

You Need to get the timelines right some of the facts are incorrect please do more due dilligence when telling the history of our Musical Greats
Robert Ward was no longer with the band when they recorded the album "Pain"
Groups, such as the Ohio Players are not formed anymore!
Are you sure Robert Ward contributed to Pain and Pleasure? They had a bitter split from Robert Ward before their sound became more funky.
The Ohio Players is my favorite group and I followed them over 50 year. This is the worst representation that I ever saw because it wasn't the truth.
