- My buddy Brent Henderson and I decided to tackle 'Smutwood Peak' this summer so that we could witness the stunning view of Mt Birdwood.
There had been LOTS of grizzly bear activity in the area but we were lucky and didn't bump into any during our 40km hike. That's a good thing because after just two hours of sleep I was definitely not going to outrun even the mosquitoes.
I was also having hilarious problems getting the Gopro voice commands to work as it could not comprehend my Yorkshire accent.
Hope you enjoy and please leave a comment and maybe hit the subscribe button :)

Who's watching the new playlist in 2022? Still classic Gavin!
Well, I've watched most of the latest Vlogs, may as well watch the older ones :-)
Brilliant, Gavin! What a fantastic location and first vlog. Good one mate!
Cheers Adam and thanks for the inspiration :)
Cute guys
Love the "polarizer blob" workaround. Funny, but I'd never even thought to try that. Thanks again, Gavin!
I decided to binge in order... man your audio has improved immensely 🤣
Fantastic tip for evening out the polarizer "blob". Thanks!! Great video.
I second that. To the best of my knowledge no one else has mentioned that. Top tip!
Look at baby face Brent in this video, who was probably shooting pano's when he was still in a nappy!
(I've also started watching every video you have posted to your channel, knowing that RUclips will reward you handsomely for doing so!)
After the third attempt, I always say, "GoPro...F*ck off!" Still have to press the button, but at least I feel better.
Been with you since the start gavin what a journey its been and one of the funniest.
What a great first video! Thanks for the advice about polariser blogs and how to cure them too. Brilliant! Thanks for the email about your early video series. It is a great idea.
Wow, beside you getting old looking, and vlog camera getting gimballed, nothing change! Maybe a slight tone change in the theme song. Great stuff!
Beautiful movie, my friend. Canadian mountains are beautiful. I've visited the Rockies twice. I'm looking forward again :-)
Brent’s unattended tripod on the edge of a cliff in strong wind (at 4:30), giving me the fear! Great fun video as ever Gavin, highly enjoyable watch.
Omg canned red wine where can I buy this ?........Oh yeh great video man good tips on the polariser I'm going to give that a try that 👍
Great video, you guys look like in the video from yesterday 😀💪🏼
Another excellent video, that last 30 seconds got my day off to an excellent start 😂😂😂
Wow! We don't have those type of views on the east coast. Looks like a fun trip. Thanks for the tips.
Woa.. I can’t imagine I’d be brave enough to ever go up that high. I’m glad to be able to watch y’all do it.. looks very dangerous especially with balsamic vinaigrette 😅
Super Vistas Gavin.....super
Wow mate, if this is your first vlog it's easy to see why you have eleventy million subscribers. I've got lots to learn!
My God, it`s the end of times! Now you can see how dangerous those mosquito bites are. Here`s hoping you both have a speedy recovery.
I believe this hike in and out is 20km round trip. 10km one way
I am in awe of your hiking abilities! I get what you are saying about the polarizing blob but could you perhaps do a video of dealing with it in photoshop. Thanks! This was an amazing video. Very well done Gavin. Thank you for being who you are and sharing all your work. Im an out of condition old geezer as old as the Grumpmaster and as such I don't push myself! You and the Grumpmaster are a huge inspiration to me to get out there and collect some amazing images! Both Thumbs UP
Check out Sean Bagshaws channel. He did a video on that last year
Your content is awesome. I love your interview style in some of your other vids. Really well structured with great personality. If you ever decide to make longer vlogs, i am all for it. Cheers bro!
hey Gavin we meet at Moab your videos are amazing and you are deffinetly going to be huge keep it up you are truly a breath of fresh air in landscape videos
Thanks Randy :)
I've thought about photographing tall mountain peaks at dusk, my problem is with the hike back. Considering the Canadian Rockies is roaming with grizzly bears, I would not feel safe about hiking back to my car in the dark.
Thought i watch an older vlog whilst waiting for my book lol
Great video Gavin! I'm not much of a photography guy but that was great. I also do VLOG's of my hikes and scrambles in Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore and Lake Louise area. Mine however definitely don't have the "polish" that yours do. Very entertaining! Great job! Gave you a SUB.
I just scrolled all the way down to find how the vlog started
THANKYOU
Got to put that RRR in there. "Stop Recorrrrding."
OK... starting the whole experience now...
What a view and what a name, could only be bettered with a nice twirl or three
Them views 😲 well worth the mooch up ta top !
Hey Gavin, I'm really loving your videos but isn't the grid you have at 7:21 divided by four instead of three?
depends how you look at it. Sadly my camera won't record footage with the grid on so I had to cobble together my own crappy version. I need to design a better one.
🥰
Old footage is as hilarious
Excellent Gavin! Good tips and I got a good laugh :-) "stop recording!"
heheh. I know I shouldn't but it still gives me a chuckle
I imagine you stayed a bit past sunrise - did you hike back down after or stay the night? How long was the hike out?
You know when I was little we had a strange thing on the TV it was called the off button...no other way of doing it, I imagine GoPro did away with this.....
How young and slim you look back then! ;)
Did you end up overnight there? I'm thinking of doing the solstice there and am curious if anyone got fussy with you leaving your car in the lot overnight. I've heard enforcement is getting stricter in the region.
Nice, did you camp up there? Trying to go here this fall.
We may or may not have slept under a canvass which to some might have resembled a tent.....
Hey Gavin .... the bit about the polarizer blob is really useful but with respect to the composition it looks more like you're using the rule of 4ths or am I just seeing things? P.S. Drinking at the top of the mountain peak looks more than a bit risky. I hope you've got some kind of air bag type inflating device inside those backpacks for the descent down.
Yes, my stomach.
@@fototripper Now that makes the climbing challenging with all that gear. P.S. When are we going to see some more videos with your hilarious girlfriend? P.P.S. When are you going to quit photography and be a full time stand up comic? You could make more money than Jerry Seinfeld.
hahaha I just might ;) Catherine will put in a performance tomorrow @@crissignori7482
@@fototripper I'll be looking for it. I hope you bought her a Nikon D850 ... poor girl needs and deserves a REAL camera.
FFS it Commonwe...Birdwood
Cannot hear, bad audio
Didn't your Mum teach you not to speak (to a GoPro) with your mouth full? ;-)
I was chewing joyky!
Hey Gavin, GoPro doesn't speak proper English. Lol
