I have always been braid at main line. U cant beat the sensitivity. Only time a use full mono as main line is under a popping cork. As for leader, i use mono if i want the stretch capability for big fish. Fluorocarbon when i dont want the stretch and want to be invisible. Love your channel. Keep it up
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment. How long of a leader do you use? I can't tell a difference at all in the stretch from my leaders when switching from mono to fluoro, but I'm only using 1.5 to 2 ft leaders max. Note: We'll be testing the visibility factor soon... but it was very suspicious that the fluoro showed up just as well as the mono in this test when it was submerged in saltwater.
Excellent video! I enjoy these types of videos with experimentation and real world under water footage. To me this is where all this comes to when making the right decisions, and especially on our budgets.
Thanks for all the great videos Luke. I know I’m a little behind but I just finished watching your abrasion tests on all the lines and now this one. Just wondering if you have done the underwater visibility test of the fluorocarbon vs mono test yet? If so could you link it for me? I can’t seem to find it. If not I look forward to watching it when you do post it. Tight lines! Keep putting out the great content! Please lol

Heck, surface tension will float a steel needle if you're really careful when you put it on the surface - and it will stay there indefinitely unless there is a disturbance in the water.
I find the fluroshield line can take the surface tension better than trilene XL and float for my bobber set up, possibly because the flurocoating prevents it get soaked and lighter than pure fluro.
Sorry to say, but you got it wrong, i tried this test with my mono fishing line and indeed it sinks if you help it to get past *surface tension of water* however when fishing with same exact line e.g. using bobber there's nothing that pulls line under water so it never goes past surface tension and does NOT sink. Best to buy special sinking monofilament line, there's also sinking braid line now days.
for fishing perch (sweden in malmo canal) using 7,3 rod fast action 7-23 gr ML (savagear sg4) and right now most nedhead.. what is best mono (is it same as nylon) or use fluro.. and tie direct to the jighead or use a smal swivel snap or a fast attach size 0 or 1.. fishing much cranks and small jerks like rapala and some time berkley powerblade.. fastattach is not good on powerblade but for this baits is mono better?
does the mono hold surface tension when you drop it from above the water? I'm curious to know that. I know it will sink as demonstrated. for bass however, there are a few techniques where straight fluorocarbon dominates mainly because of the stretch properties and not the fact it doesn't stretch or how it stretches.
Not sure fluorocarbon is all it is touted to be. It will stretch in a similar percentage to mono. In a tight line braid is more sensitive. However, fluorocarbon's advantage is sensitivity in slack line where braid loses it's sensitivity.
@@jimscott4552 you are correct in that. and im not sure of the exact property that makes it better, but I can tell you in bass fishing, for certain techniques it not only increases strikes.. but one technique in particular it greatly increased my hookup ratio over mono or braid. its kind of a niche thing for me. ive also found that it does much better around wood than braid.

OK. I'm an idiot for believing all the hype about flouro. What's the stretch on a 5ft mono leader...1/8 inch? Seems like if the fish want it, they'll go for it, no matter what. I've been using hi-vis mono and guess what. Just as many fish as the flouro and I can actually see the knot I'm tying. Thank you for the video. I too have a big container dedicated to fishing line.

I like these kind of experiments 👍

I love your videos and the industry must absolutely hates it. Truth is beautiful!!
Thanks for watching!

Do both lines sink when placed on the water surface as well? Curious...

When will you be doing the water test, mono vs Fluorocarbon which line is less visible.

Why is it “made” to be a leader line? I’m new to the whole leader concept. Is it just because it’s a small spool?

Awesome. Love your line tests 🎣😎
Like the line tests. All are really useful and eye opening!
Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment Tony!
Awesome video Luke!
Cool test , will surface tension float them both Thanks
Yes, even fluoro floats with surface tension.
Heck, surface tension will float a steel needle if you're really careful when you put it on the surface - and it will stay there indefinitely unless there is a disturbance in the water.
You guys put out great content. P.s., I thought I was the only guy with a translucent bin full of line....
Thanks Steve! Glad to see that I'm not the only one who can't stop accumulating fishing equipment:)

Good intel!

Nice comparison
Thanks Pablo!
The difference is not worth the extra money unless you're pro. I'm sticking with mono leader. Mono seems to have better abrasion resistance.
even light test such in my case 6 lb mono and 8 pound floruo both sink but flouro at a slower rate verses mono faster.
Thanks!
Even with the same diameter?
What size mono do you use?

GOOD INFO🎣💪🏽
Thanks!
So Ok to use fc for topwater?
It's ok to use either one... the fluoro will just sink down a bit more than mono.
So I guess mono is superior but braid is still best for floating capability

Nice experiment, why not include braid? Humm I agree the fluorocarbon seems as visible as the mono in this experiment.
I learned you can see fluro just as well as mono.
But not the fish!
I like mono for topwater since it floats :)
Thanks for watching!
Dry finger drop be a wee more clever.
🙏😎
Now I gotta look for braid and fresh water. Dam
Thanks for sharing the tip!
Hey, I can see the invisible fluorocarbon leader. What's up?
you probably have had this question more than once but which one is stronger
