Another great video Mick, not fished for the last 2 years and previously spent the past 20 years bivvy bound, lost the love of angling in all honesty but these vids by yourself and other respected anglers have inspired me to get back out there and rekindle the passion that began when I was a kid in the 80s Tight lines from East Yorkshire 🎣😁
Love this vid. You are spot on . Love float fishing . Brings me back to fishing with my Dad in the 50s. Find it relaxing and give your mind peace in this crazy world. Great vid and teaching .👍👏
Really enjoy these in depth videos. Really enjoy my feeder fishing, but nothing better than watching that float go under, pretty much how we all started as kids
Very enjoyable Video. I am with you and love this type of fishing .. I think is is very sad that so many anglers these days are obsessed with catching big carp and nothing else. There is something magical about fishing light and simple with a float and a nice soft waggler rod. 👌
Hope someone at NuFish can feed this back - Mick you made a very important point; you're a professional angler and often do things as second nature. This is the issue with most fishing videos - they take experience for granted. Every adjustment, every thought process is important to less experienced anglers. If you think its not worth mentioning, then it will be to someone. Feeding patterns and response to weather conditions, for example, are often overlooked. Great content, and great explanations. Thanks Mick.
Great video Mick, under estimated tactic for matches these days. Think commercial fishing aimed at feeder, pole and pellet waggler. Great for winter and natural venues back to basics great and informative for getting people into angling. Keep posting Mick and Nufish team 👍🏻👌🏻❤
I always used to fish the waggler and the stick float when I was growing up on the rivers around the london area 40 yrs ago🤣🤣🤣and before poles existed , everyone used a waggler/stick float rod ! I fish mainly lakes nw,and use the pole most of the time,as presentation ,feeding is alot easier!and there is nothing better than watching the elastic stretch. Over xmas I got a 13ft waggler rod as a present which I used on my club lakes and loved it, I still think the waggler has a job at distances, and I do like the pellet waggler in the middle of summer, Great video mick,👍
Cracking video both in subject matter and presentation style. I'm predominantly a feeder/method feller but I've recently been fishing with a friend who is into his waggler fishing. I'm going to have a go at float fishing because I reckon using the heavy lead method for so long has taken away some of the fun factor that I remember when I was float fishing as a young 'un.
I always pack a waggler rod. I've said so many times 'I'm feeder fishing today!' But out comes the waggler. Something more magical about the waggler for me. Doesn’t matter if it's Gudgeon theres always that surprise that could come on the waggler. A delight to watch this, Mick's enthusiasm is infectious. Putting together some cracking videos recently even the ones with Joe in! 😂😂😂 Plenty more to come I hope.👍
Could do with Nufish sponsoring a float only event similar to the World Coarse Fishing Championship (limit pole to 13m) to help revitalise the art of waggler fishing. Plenty of commercial, natural venues to pick from for Qualifiers and Final.
I'm surprised such an event does not exist, would be great practice for UK International anglers to hone their waggler/slider fishing skillls in a competitive environment. @@Gray_vr5
I fish waggler all the time cos I don't own a pole - I always worried that I was damaging the hook when crimping shot to it so I crimped the shot onto a tiny bait band and then put the band onto the hook. Thank you very much for sharing
Useful tips for beginners. A better way to keep a check on the depth is not to mark your rod but to do this. Use two sliding float stops above the float then you can use the upper one as a depth marker and if you want to fish shallower you can adjust the lower float stop and still use the upper one as you plumbed depth marker. Tight lines.
nice one Mick, fantastic video, keep up the great work you do looking forward to all the new videos from Nufish have a great time all the best Gerry five star *****
Great video, thank you. I'm old school and always used to fish with shot around the waggler, makes me think I need more loaded ones and start using float stops. It must be so much easier to move the float up with the stops. ATB MMMD
Enjoyable and informative video as per usual from Nufish. I like to feeder fish but by far my favourite method is float fishing whether it be waggler or pellet waggler. I get a buzz seeing the float tip disappear. I don't river fish now and only pole fish short. 9mts.max. I get no enjoyment holding long lengths of carbon. As you know fishing is for enjoyment , and l really enjoy float fishing
Really helpful video! Explained everything perfectly! I do have a question though. I’ve got a new rod and when I went fishing for the first time on my own my reel kept getting tangled, how do I stop this?
Yes I remember doing that…….but because the loaded float sank deep into the swim due to loading. To prevent this happening we put a small body onto the bottom. Not for extra weight but to prevent the float diving into the swim
Good vid mick. I love the float but only use float ledger ( i know im going against the grain ) and to add. I use 10 foot rods, no choice, would never get anything longer in my little car😢. But at my age,its enough for me, 71 . Maybe nufish could make a vid on float ledger ?
Great video Mick. Waggler fishing is certainly my favourite. Quick question? Why would you use a silicone float attachment over link swivel to connect your float to the line?
Great question, Mick says for a traditional Waggler it is more neat and tangle free than a swivel which work very well for a denser float such as a pellet Waggler.
To be honest I love the waggler but if I went down to my hometown of Bristol and fished the Welsh back stretch of the city docks as it’s about 14 foot deep I’d always fish a running feeder 4lb main line 2lb 12 inch hook length to a 16 or 18 hook and fish about 3 rod lengths out .
Hi thanks for the great video . I’ve just started to teach myself and my son to float fish . We were advised to use 11 ft rods. I managed to get the reel on the rod, managed to get the line through the eyes, get the got a float on , and get hooks on with overhand loop and got the maggots on. We caught a fair few but …. I don’t understand how to get the depth. And I can’t cast well. We were throwing as hard as we could and couldn’t get very far . Is there any videos you’ve made just with casting or getting your depth .
There is a section within this video that should help you getting the depth or plumbing up as it is known. As far as casting, a smooth technique is more important than thrashing the rod. we will get a casting video done
What is the tactic for sinking line when you cast to the edge of the lilys for tench. If you sink the tip and wind you are out of the feeding zone, when they will often only feed right near the pads on a bright day. Is there a ‘sinking ‘ line I can use? Good video.
Sorry, new to this... What do you mean by spin up as you mentioned it around 25 minutes in? And whats the negative aspect that this then has that yoire trying to avoid?
It is in reference to the hook length used. Some times when using two maggots on the hook, the hook length can spin up when you reel in and ruin your line and bait presentation.
If I had a none load waggler float with 2AA or 3AA what shot would I use for locking shot ? And how many droppers would I need for a 1 foot deep or less ? Been fishing lake near me struggling and advice would be appreciated
Thanks appreciated the advice. What would u use for a non load waggler float 2 AA what locking shot would I need? And is it better to over shot the locking shot ?
Surely Mick is the smiliest angler in the game. Always a pleasure for me to watch and learn from these videos.

Detexion sinks well so would be a great bet. Sinking the rod tip and sharply lifting it can sink the line without drawing the float back too far
Yeah for me it's watching my lure get smashed and seeing the fish come out the water can't beat that for me.
