I honestly will never be able to take Jennifer Lopez or American Idol seriously for letting this unbelievably talented and soulful songstress slip through their fingers. Her unique voice surpasses time itself.
But Scotty “Baby lock the door and turn the lights down low” McCreery!!! I quit that season after Pia got voted off. And now I regret it because I missed out on Haley. The judges just hated her.

@@DM-cu5hp All 3 were very talented, 2 have become very successful, Haley has not. In my humble opinion, at the time of AI, Haley's voice wasn't as pleasing as a recording voice, despite her amazing talent. In my opinion, if she went and recorded a jazz album, she may have received more commercial success.. Perhaps, she was like an Eva Cassidy, who would not allow herself to be placed in one genre.. Eva is one of the greatest singers ever, but never even was heard of much until after her death, sadly. At the time Haley was on idol, she seemed to me, a bit full of herself.. I am sure she has grown in many ways, and I see her talent has grown even more. I wish her well and I hope she remains true to herself.
It'll be a long time until everyone will understand how fake and staged those shows are. They mean nothing, talented people like her are much better on their own.

The piano player was watching and listening to her and only played enough to compliment her amazing voice. By not trying to take the lead and perform an instrumental version is what makes him a great pianist and this recording great.

Just followed Haley’s career since idol and listened to a lot of people talk about her and I think this rendition of this song really exemplifies what I think it means to not rush a song and sing in the pocket. Same with when she sings Bennie and the Jets, she doesn’t let the song overtake her. She leads the music and the song. She is my favorite artist.

What is meant by the expression "in the pocket"? From the way people are using it, it seems to mean singing in a relaxed and very unhurried way. However, the meaning I found when I looked it up is the tessitura, the range in which your voice is most comfortable, strongest, brightest, a "pocket" of your best notes, and it makes no reference to being relaxed and unhurried in delivery.
I don't know whether it's anything to do with singing "in the pocket", but it is very noticeable on this track that Haley very frequently comes in behind the first beat of the bar. It's very noticeable once you've recognised it - e.g. the first time she sings the word "fool" and then the word "in". Intentional of course. I think it gives a greater fluidity of movement, and perhaps a little extra lift. Whatever, I likeit.

Haley is the full package, god gifted amazing voice, talented beyond belief, extremely diverse with her choice of music, artistic sets and I need not say, so so beautiful. She takes the covers she does to a new level. I literally get goosebumps when I listen to her sing, she’s so amazing. Haley, you have an unbelievable talent and I’m so happy for your success! You are hands down my all time favorite performing vocalist.

They are a match made in music heaven. They are best friends but in a lot of cases, friendships do lead to something more and I notice the way Casey looks at Haley. While the technical mastery Haley displays in her work is captivating, her musicality is what keeps me coming back over and over again. I just never get tired of hearing her sing.

They've never been married or in a romantic relationship together. It's suggested that Casey would have liked it, but it never happened. They met on American Idol, and clicked musically, and have been good friends because of their music ever since. There's certainly a chemistry between, but it's a musical one. They're good pals and have been so since Idol days of 2010-11. They also both live around Los Angeles, and quite often seem to make an appearance on one another's gigs.

I've been listening and appreciating talented singers for decades. I've seen great bands and singers come and go. I'm nobody, I'm no TV show talent guy...but I feel I have a say. There are tons of folks who can sing popular tunes and we love them...and then there are greats who master their talent, their craft...and we're in awe. I have two people who have inspired me as actual greats with their talents. Chris Cornell for a male singer who can't be touched...and Haley as my female singer, and I don't have enough adjectives to say how great you are. Just...wow.

What has changed is the music trends. You probably just enjoy the kind of genres/style Haley tends to sing (throwback 60s-70s).
Vel0city perhaps. I feel like current music and how it’s made rewards mediocrity. Executives don’t like taking risks. They always try to formalize successful “products”. Ariana Grande has a wonderful voice, but all her music is relatively “easy”. They need music she can sing while dancing and doing dress changes, putting on a spectacle. Because these young singers aren’t challenged they never grow into the masters that you get once in a few times in a generation. It’s not that I like this “style” of music over modern music. It’s that I feel like what’s required from modern singers just doesn’t allow them to focus on honing their voice into incredible instruments. Hailey here isn’t being forced to learn a dance routine. The star of the show is her voice.

More, more varied and arguably more interesting music is being produced in our days than ever before with the advent of technology and the internet.
Even pop music has tens of alternative subgenres exploring different various ideas.
Now, while your argument about music being influenced by the fact that it needs to be performed while dancing is interesting, I very much doubt it holds any truth:
1) You vastly overestimate the amount of people who watch music videos (even for mainstream pop) vs. those who only listen to it.
2) You assume that pop singers perform the entirety of their hits live. Most of often when singers have to also dance, parts (or even the entirety) of the vocal performance is playback.

My grandson got married this past week end on a part of the Appalachian Trail, on a mountain top. The weather and views were perfect so was his beautiful bride. As she and her dad walked to him this song was played and I cried like a baby. It was all so perfect and beautiful.

My husband sent this song to me this morning...specifically Haley's cover because he loves her voice! So do I!🥺😭🥰 We sure did rush in and we both knew from the start we were meant to be together. 17+ years together, two miracle sons later (many more in heaven) and we are still head over heels. It's not always easy but if you can hold onto this feeling, it makes all the hard times worth it! 💗

I remember Haley and Casey when they were contestants on American Idol (season 10). They were absolutely amazing though I also loved contestants like Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery too! They’re all incredible.

You should hear their first duet "Moaning". When I was watching Idol I was a Casey fan from the start, the screaming girl type, I liked Haley too even if she wasn't on my top list. But when they sang the first song, I got hooked on her too and have been shipping them since.
