It was a very smart interim solution, for sure! I enjoyed shooting with my lowly a37 very much 🙂

Great review! I bought this lens for 125$ Canadian (95 €) 2 years ago and it’s a solid portrait lens for my Minolta AF cameras.

Would you do a review of the Sony easy choice lenses at some point in time? I might want to hear you review these lenses about. I am also picking up a DT 35mm 1.8.

Very interesting video , very well explained (sonar history). I knew that Contax got for its Contax yaschica film line a 85 f2.8 but I didn t know there was the same for Sony A. I saw one on a 2 nd hand market for less than 100€ and so I ordered it just after seeing your video. I will compare it with my ..FE 85mm’f1.8 and resell the one I love the less.

Glad you found it useful! Let me know how you get along with that 85/2.8. I heard good things about the Sony 85/1.8, so it's gonna be a tough fight for the little guy!

I guess it is the light wight that is also appealing. I have the canon 85mm 1.8 that stays at home as it is weighty to carry around.

Portability is definitely a plus, at least in my opinion!

I miss the 85mm focal length, I ran with the Nikkor 85/1.8D but ended up selling it and now regret it! That 85/2.8 is excellent! Oh and I totally saw the Sonnar design.

Alright, that's one lens nerd down, two more to go! 😁 My bank account is very happy that the Sony 85/2.8 turned out to be such a good lens - I would've been looking for Minolta 85/1.4 otherwise...

Thanks for the video. Very interesting info i never knew about. Just got my copy of the lens to use with my Sony SLT. Sad that it cant be used with my Minolta 8000i, but now i need to find a working Dynax 7 🤣

You can still use it on 8000i, just without AF and some limitations to automatic exposure modes 😉 Although I wouldn't get in the way of anyone wanting a Dynax 7 - what a camera!

@10 Rolls Of Film the autofocus doesn't work on the 8000i, but the rest does.. but you know as well as I do that that's just an excuse to get the Dynax 7 🤣
