  • In this episode we feature the first car I would categorize as both a survivor as well as a rat rod. It is a 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix owned by Bruce Moorman of Boone, Iowa. Bruce should be a familiar face to our loyal viewers as he was in our pilot episode with his1964 Ford Falcon. Bruce’s father bought the car in the 90’s from a local kid and parked it out in a field where it developed the patina you see here. Bruce decided to bring the old Mopar back to life about 10 years back. He had the old cast iron Torqueflite transmission rebuilt, tossed some new exhaust on it, and gave it a tune up to get it back on the road. A few rat rod touches like pinstriping, stickers, and some blanket seat covers were added as well to complete the look of a well aged cruiser.. If you find yourself going to events like Vintage Torque Fest in eastern Iowa...you will probably see him there with the Dart. You will probably see me roaming around VTF next time as well.
If you are in the Midwest and wonder what Vintage Torque Fest is all about...check it out by visiting the website.

If you are in my area and one of those people that maybe thought “my car isn’t nice enough to be on any show”....well dude or dudette...I love cars like this. If you have a survivor, rat rod, or something in between let me tell you something ; if you love it someone else probably will too. So show it off!

Awesome car! I had a 318 poly aka "semi-hemi" in a 66' Fury. I had a spare I sold to a friend in Illinois that ended up making over 500 hp and was featured in a Mopar magazine article a few years ago! They are torque monsters and make an easy 300 hp with a 4 barrel and headers. Nice video quality!

Oh I believe it. You have to be a metal fabrication and welding wizard to make it look right. I’m going to be doing some build videos this winter but nothing quite that ambitious.

The gasket you need is right there.. going to have to be super careful taking that glass out and not damage the rubber. Nobody makes them.

The cheaper Dart was the Seneca.
    The Savoy was Plymouth.
