The samurai had the same idea with their oversized shoulder pads, which was primarily defense for arrows. It makes sense to have oversize shoulder armor especially for two handed weapons such as bow, pole-arms, or rifles especially when threatened with ranged weapons.

Halo's ODST armor or even its standard UNSC Marine armor are *VERY* possible forms of protection we can expect to see in the future. Lightweight plates that cover most of the body to protect against gunfire and shrapnel. Right now in the US we just have helmet and a flak vest (with plates), maybe some extra shoulder pieces and groin pieces but they're not standard. Seeing not only helmet and flak, but also shoulder, groin, knee/shin, and forearm plates become standard would be awesome as long as they were capable of protecting the wearer while remaining lightweight. Normal field load is about 90 lbs of gear right now, so to increase armor plating coverage on somebody's body to that extent would be difficult. Shame we don't have recharging shields

1) those shoulder and groin pieces ARE standard, we just don't like wearing them because it's one more gawdaffule piece of kit that is slowing us down and getting in the way for minimal benefit. Those pieces usually stay in the locker till it is time to do a showdown, or ETS.
2) Anything not backed by that thicc-ass lvlIV plate won't do squat against modern rifles and still gets in the way of us doing things. Sure, shrapnel protection.... Sorta, but that won't save your butt from explosive shockwaves. Yay for TBI!
3) your right, modern combat loads suck a big, heavy bucket of penis. The current gen 4 IOTVs are an improvement, less weight, less stuff getting in the way, less kevlar, but that's a tradeoff.
We're making incremental improvements in body armor... However we are making larger improvements in munitions that defeat body armor. I say let's just scrap the whole thing and focus on mechs & drones that fully replace battlefield soldiers, I'd much rather do my fighting from my living room CoD style.

This might be the most productive demo ranch video ever. He’s actually testing a realistic prototype that could save lives. Plus he’s one of the first to probably do it on his massive platform.
Yeah, this is pretty neat, it'll be interesting to see if this product makes it to the mainstream. One thing that I do disagree with Mat on was when he was talking about shooting stances, as for as I'm aware most modern stances actually have you face your chest down ranges to have the most armor possible exposed.
@@kotarichards5218 That's what he said, but if your shoulder has armor you can stand sideways which is much more natural. I disagree with the fact that he went from shotgun to 7.62x54 entirely skipping the rifle rounds it'd be likely to run into like 7.62x39 and .556/.223.

It looks pretty similar to the shoulder armor for the Spartans in Halo Wars. As someone who likes the MK4 aesthetic, I approve of this endeavor. Make some tweaks to hold up against rifle rounds, and I’m all for it.

Oh the snow lasted a lot longer than a few hours. It snowed a fuck ton (for Texas anyway) and it stuck around. After a couple of days it started to melt a tiny bit, then it snowed again. Yeah, it was around about a week so we had a 7 day free trial of Alaska here in Texas. Thankfully, here in Seguin, we didn't have any burst pipes so we didn't need to boil our water. We also had our power on longer periods than San Antonio actually did. My grandmother said they only only had power for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. At least we got 30 minutes on and 30 off. The snow was so beautiful on the wide open fields on our farm here. The water pipes froze though. Forgot to leave them running. It was a relief when the water started flowing again after three days when the temps rose to 36. That melted the snow a bit, then it re-froze. the snow went from powdery to the wetter snow that can be packed and thrown. then it snowed again. Patches of snow in lower lying areas and in the shade stuck around for almost two weeks after the first snow fall. It was a beautiful sight, but it was kind of ruined with the whole power issues and the water. Luckily it was cold so we didn't sweat at all. Did feel a bit grimy after three days without water. Fortunately, I had left the shower on full blast so it woke me up in the middle of the night to alert me we had water again.
I hope I live to see another beautiful snow covered Texas like that again. Only this time, utilities better be able to keep the damn power on by properly refitting the damn power stations. Yeah, Fox News, fuck you. it wasn't green energy that failed us in Texas. it was the fossil fuel burning plants that failed. Green energy accounts for only a portion of the state's power. Even with all the solar and wind power plants off line, we have more than enough gas and coal burning plants to make up for the shortfall by far, but they failed us. Only areas of the state that could connect to the power from neighboring states did not have any rolling blackouts.
Thanks for fucking us and blaming it on green energy, fossil fuel burning cunts. Even our nuclear plants were caught un-prepared. For $200 a month during the hottest months, I expect reliable power! I really have to look into back-up power generators, propane and propane accessories. Damn heater (that runs on electricity and not gas) would blast us with cold air every time the power came back on.
Other than that, it was beautiful.

Matt is slowly turning into Cloud from Final Fantasy. He's already played with the giant sword and now he has cloud's shoulder armor. He just need to get spiky blond hair and he'll be set.
Ive actually had some sketches on this type of armor since I played Valkyria chronicles with Fiber Glass / Kevlar mix the shoulder needs to be higher to act as a face cover like shooting around a corner, I know its 40k related, but that asthetic is not good, it would protect the neck and throat and head from the side so you can peak around corners more while in full cover, same would go for the pads hanging over your legs, it would be light and ask like a light armor while stronger then the normal US kevlar. Only one shoulder would be taller then the other, which should be the arm that aims the gun (Not the trigger arm) Id like you to check the game out, because the armor in that game is very doable. OFC with a heavier armor that shoulder would be as high and wider almost acting like a shield in push motions while in advance posture. A shield with dig ins at the bottom that is releasable, to go closer to a target and stab it into the ground shoot the ground hooks down from the shield and using it as a mobile cover that can withstand light and heavy ammunition.
