Daniel Corbett provides unique solutions to those with unique problems. An elite Navy SEAL operator, Daniel deployed to Iraq with SEAL Team 5 in the summer of 2005. Later, he joined DEVGRU at SEAL Team 6 in 2007, deploying to various classified locations around the world before shifting into instructing at NSWBTC. After that, he fell into private military contracting, where he would go on to make international news when he was thrown in jail in Belgrade, Serbia for eighteen months after tracking a terrorist financier.
Today, he continues to monitor international news, taking meetings with those who need unique solutions to unique problems, but there's more to Daniel's story than meets the eye. What's it like operating at the Tip of the Spear? How does somebody get into private contracting? And most importantly - what is life like when you're spending 18 months in a Serbian jail? Let's ask Daniel.

My 19yo son went shooting with some friends and Daniel was there. He said he was super super cool and helped my son shoot better long range. So Dan, if you’re reading this, you should know who I’m talking about-he brought out his M1 Garand that day-thanks for treating my son so well. He still talks about you and that day.

This is probably the craziest interview I’ve heard. This dude is a stone cold professional.
MIke you are a natural at interviews, and asking great questions without skipping around. Recently found your podcast and became a subscriber. Keep up the good work. Aloha🤙
Dan was dismissed from SEAL Team Six due to perceived immaturity or whatever, but in my opinion, he is the most humble and down-to-earth former SEAL Team Six operator ever interviewed on this show. He’s a solid guy with an incredible life story.
The way Daniel described the circumstances surrounding his departure from devgru speaks volumes... I'm convinced this dude possessed a fairly high degree of self-awareness, relatively low levels of destructive ego, and judging from the accolades and commendations he received from fellow SEALs throughout his career and leading right up to his departure from the command, I get the sense that he was truly an exceptional operator, and was in no way a disruptive or corrosive component of his squadron/team... And I think it goes without saying that so much of what happens at that unit (and within organizations of all sorts in general) is affected by politics and the interpersonal relationships between teammates, and definitely between leadership and the men they lead... I get the feeling, and he pretty much admits as much, that these politics can often overshadow what could otherwise be a truly exceptional operator's performance and career progression. At any rate, I'm glad he popped chocks the way he did -- You can tell he was comfortable with it, he had accomplished what he had set out to achieve, and there was no ego involved at that point -- he could simply move on to what felt like the right direction to head towards without any reservations or shame or whatever. From all available evidence, seems like a genuinely decent dude...
who else mentioned him except Jeff’s?
This man's story is awesome! What a life! Can't wait to get the book
This man story is bullshit i was in same prison and he was like rabbit
This guy has been doing this since 18 and all he went through while in service, then gets out and has to worry about money really says a lot about our government. When a bartender becomes a Congresswoman and is now a multimillionaire but this guy is scrounging for money ticks me off.
The government shouldn’t be involved in giving anyone money. If you aren’t making money it’s usually operator error. Bad choices are likely the culprit. He could go be a plumber tomorrow but probably doesn’t want to. It’s not about what people want. Adulthood= getting a job you hate and working it for 30 years. Plenty of jobs that pay. He just doesn’t want them which is his problem. Not the governments.
Only people from high socioeconomic stations should be in congress? Is that what you're saying? Lowly bartenders shouldn't have a say, but you should? Not very "we the people" of you. Yes, he, and everyone at his caliber, should make a shit load of money. They are the best of the best and do incredible things.
Also maybe look at what AOC has done objectively, or don't. I don't care either way.
An AOC supporter?!!! Are you F’ing serious?!! What the hell are you doing watching this video? Amazing. I’m stunned.
@@jmart0450 I dunno what bartenders you’ve met…. I can 100% say they shouldn’t have a say at all. Haven’t met one that’s not delusional. I’ve watched AOC get torn apart in hearings because she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Which most bartenders I’ve met don’t either. That’s why they aren’t working a better job making better money with better benefits. She got voted in by progressive people. People who literally want the government to do everything for them WHILE complaining about how terrible the government is. If you don’t understand how dumb that is then I dunno what to tell you.

I’m starting to notice a trend whenever SEALs do contracting work overseas: Chris Osman goes to Haiti and is thrown in prison because they think he wants to assassinate the president. This guy goes to Serbia and is thrown in prison because they think he wants to assassinate the president. 😂😂😂
This guy have a gun...
@@billycatch4088 no he didn't. there were hunting rifles at his friend's house he was at.
@@swayzefan3600 As stated by the prosecutor, former American special agent Corbett encouraged the accused Nikola Vučeljić to buy him a CZ99 pistol with the factory number removed for a price of 1,500 euros. In its closing statement, the Prosecution reminded that Corbett claimed that he came to Serbia for business, but not what kind of business, and stated that they did not go into the purpose with which the illegal weapons were acquired.
After Corbett's arrest, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić commented on the case on television:
"Imagine finding a guy from Team 6, who was after Bin Laden in Afghanistan, with a sharpened gun here and the criminal connections that supplied it to him, and they're silent. Well, it's not like it was supposed to be used to shoot catfish or perch in the Danube," said Vučić.
At the trial in Belgrade, which began in January 2019, all the accused pleaded not guilty. According to the indictment, they said that they acquired the gun to shoot at the shooting range, while they explained that the phone correspondence, which was suspected to be related to the purchase of illegal weapons, was about an agreement to buy impotence pills.
Great interview!!!
Outstanding story, Daniel. Thank you, Mike, for bringing it to us. This was an honor & a privilege for this old Marine! In my thoughts & prayers.
"We'd be dropping AC-130's on them and they would still be running at us. I realized these guys don't give a fuck! It was a different kind of enemy."
Yep. They will also sell their young kids for what would be our equivalent of $50. And they also bang livestock. Soooo yeah.... different breed

The most fascinating thing about navy seals is they train so hard and utilize the most advanced modern tech to take on farmers and goat herders with no military equipment or air support.

One of the best episodes, unfortunately it cost me about 3.5 hours of productivity. They have got to build a movie franchise around this character.
He seems to optimize the “get selected to team6 because of politics/personality”
What happened to the intro? Are there s’s given about feelings now? I like the sound

Matt bissonnette (mark owen) the team leader of red during that time. He’s probably the one that told him he needs to leave the team.

I love the submariners!
They guy had multiple taint shots on a single deployment...FFS homie was a menace 😂😂
this sounded like an interrogation more than an interview
I thought I am the only 1 who realised that.Mike needs to work on his interview skills.Give the guy a chance to tell his story.
I don’t think so. People just have different styles of interviewing people. You have the ones that ask a few questions and let the guest speak. Then you have others that ask a bunch of questions. So naturally they’ll interrupt the guest more.
The guy was a little tight at the beginning of the interview. Mike opened him up mid way through the interview.
@@ph00z00 I thought it was a perfectly fine interview... Didn't sense any weird pressure, timing or pacing, or undue interruptions from the host. Just a matter of different interviewing styles/methods, and more generally speaking, different communication styles and characteristics.
@@WordToMomsYo it was perfectly fine, but still with that interrogation-like approach. a little bit of regular conversation interspersed. the style seems like these guys can't see eye to eye, and the interviewee is being interrogated. it goes on and off multiple times, but i realized it about 6:00-6:10
Am I the only one who thinks this whole story about him getting wrapped up in the Balkans is so shady and presume there's gotta be stuff he's leaving out, either the kid he was with that got arrested originally must have thrown him under the bus to possibly lessen his own sentence, wish Mike had asked him his opinion on that, idk the fact they just showed up accusing him of wanting to assassinate the president just doesn't seem rite. Obviously this is Serbia and shit works different so perhaps he just got hit with the perfect shitstorm that the gov then figured they'd run with otherwise my previous plan of wanting to visit as an American with prior service is completely out the window.
he is 100% leaving out a lot of stuff, also with the hells angels story
I'm from Serbia and I remember when this happened, it was in our news papers but not very much highlighted, which was strange to me. For sure he left out a lot of stuff because of nature of his work. Accusing people of assassinating Serbian president is something happening quite often here, we don't even read those news anymore :D
Not necessarily. Chris Osman is a former SEAL, who’s been on this show and talked about when he did contracting work in Haiti they arrested him because they thought he was there to assassinate the president. It was all over CNN at the time. Happened in 2019. If you’ve ever been to those third world ish countries you’d understand the rule of law is very subjective. And could 100% see something like what he talked about happening without there being some dark ulterior motive he’s hiding.
@@BostonsF1nest Serbia is not third world country😂 Enough said about your knowledge
@@rokibalboa996 I said third world ish. Do you know what ish means? Apparently not. Probably because you grew up in a third world ish country
If this story is honest and not a cover-up of his biography for that visit to Serbia, I think that the man was just set up by yours, in agreement with Vučić. The game is very complex and not even understood by most of the people who live here, and they are the target of this manipulation. Vučić is actually America's main player and they let him rule undemocratically, engage in crime, of course they blackmail him afterwards, and he plays as the West orders all the time, and his own voters who are against the handover of Kosovo and who are mostly pro-Russian are served by such plays to portray him as a patriot who fights against the West and for the interests of Serbia. And he is an ordinary traitor, that's why Daniel Corbett says that everyone respected him in prison when they found out that he allegedly wanted to kill Vučić, because no one who is aware of that game likes Vučić, neither the criminals nor the guards
I don't know why so many people get their panties in a twist about a guy who lived most of his life doing clandestine shit not being so free with details and nitty gritty. There's a lot he probably can't say for a lot of legal reasons. I appreciate him talking at all.
Side note: this is one of my favorite podcasts by far, Mike is just a phenomenal human being, and his voice is just soothing to my soul. Lol. I'd listen to him read a washing machine manual 😂😂😂
