      In Serbian language we say "navojna šipka", but since you put it in the concrete, that is "navojna šipka-anker".

    My Dad built a log cottage 80 years ago and it’s still very solid. He had a stone mason build a fire place with a mantle and stone chimney. The mason built a crib or box like you are building for your base. It was larger than the fireplace so he could put wood on it.. the fire place has a damper so you can adjust the air inflow and shut it. It’s made out of cut rocks and round granite rocks. The cottage is on and island and very secluded. There is also a 12’ deck around three sides of the cabin. One side of the deck has a roof so you can be out there in the rain. It ‘s like having another kitchen and living room outside. We were six children and spent our summers there. We had so many adventure on the lake and in the woods, we did’ want to go home in the fall. I really enjoy your channel and find it very relaxing to watch you progressing. I live in Ontario, Canada and am in my seventies. All the best.

      Jean Philion Canada is beautiful. It’s hard to find secluded and affordable land now here in the states. I like to watch my self Reliance’s channel. He’s there in Canada and his cabin that he built is absolutely amazing. These guys are such an inspiration. I don’t have the best trees/wood to choose from here in high desert but I hope to Try and build my own some day, like the one you just described.

    Tennessee here, I love your build. I remember building my own log cabin in the 80's here when I lived on the Cumberland plateau. Nothing near the scale of your build but was one of the highlights of my life. It was just a 12'x24' hand hewed bull pine with a 12'x24' frame lumber addition with a barn style roof (2 story) making it 24'x24' total. I worked on it from daylight to 2:00 pm everyday and then I went to work in the coal mines from 2:00 until midnight and you remind me of a much younger me up until I lost an arm in the mines in 89. I'm 64 now and wanted to thank you for all your hard work and sharing it with the world.

  • @tdo7d11
    @tdo7d11 5 лет назад +5

    That threaded rod is called All Thread here in the US. I’d put a couple of 1/4”x2”x10” bar straps on it to keep it from pulling out. Drill a same diameter hole in the center and slip it over the all thread 6” from the bottom and 12” from that one. Or even weld some rebar would work. If you’ve already poured the add on concrete already, you’ll have to either epoxy the all thread in place or use a threaded hammer set anchor. If I had the money I’d love to fly out and give you a hand. You’re doing a great job by yourself pal!

    Minute 25-ish, your lifting method sounds, if I understand properly, similar to what we call in the US a "Gin Pole." Most of them have pulley's but when I used to erect wind turbines we used them just as giant levers, no pulley. You can pull up a 100 foot wind turbine, and tower, with a 20 foot gin pole. Should work great as long as your cable anchors hold. Great idea. Can't wait to see it work.

    You can't go wrong calling it threaded rod,most common for me. Once you put it in concrete it becomes rebar with a thread I've even called it ready rod, cut it into different lengths and put a nut on both ends. (Ready Rod) it's all the same. Huge pillars my friend I like the fact you used all them rocks in the foundation it serves as like putting in rebar plus the fact it's free and takes less concrete very structural sound can't wait to see the build pretty high task for a younger lad.go with your gut take your time if you run into problems and ask questions if you need more advice. I live in the States. Minnesota it's a little colder here good luck my friend...The Build!

    Nik - I am always amazed at your work ethic and dedication to your goals. You live in a beautiful area and are very fortunate to have such breathtaking scenery all around you. I also love the small Canadian Flag on your T-Shirt. I'll be waiting for the next one. Regards from the Island of Newfoundland in Eastern Canada.

    Hi Nick.
    The all thread or threaded rod. In a builder's term is referred to as an anchor bolt. In which the silk is anchored to the foundation.
    Keep up the good work I can't wait to see the cabin progress and you grow as a young man along the way. Great work from Canada.

    Laying out your forms use the 3, 4, 5, method to determine square prior to pouring. Then anchor forms, then pour concrete.. Love the video

    Dear Nick, donť worry about square and fine mesurements. Wood work as gets to saddle down. If You look at od kabin, they are not perfect square. They didn't have much more than eye and nivel. It will works. Just be fine. You will adjust woods to foundations.

      Thank you so much. As long as the mistakes don't cost me an injury it's not a problem, I'm not worried about it. Thank you for watching!
