Amazing Glacier Calving and Shooter from below

  • The Dawes glacier in Alaska started calving, and then unexpectedly sent up a shooter - a large chunk of ice that breaks off from below the surface. It is hard to see how big it truly is, actually the size of a city block, because it is farther away than it looks, but you can see how long it takes to emerge and find equilibrium.
    I was just using a handheld camera on the video setting, and I was standing in a rubber Zodiac (not on a cruise ship) and I was at full zoom - so the picture shakes. Sorry about that, but the scenery is amazing
