Having just been at the sawyer glacier south of juneau alaska I have to say watching a glacier calve is beyond my expectations. Absolutely powerful and beautiful at the same time. By the way these glaciers have been receding for the last 300 years. Part of life and the earth's cycle.
And this has been happening for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years. Just like a conveying belt, each has it's time! Nature at it's best...
I was having a hard time trying to decipher between the sounds of humans or animals don't quite understand what all the screeching and screaming is about, Ice turning over!!!
I know these calvings are beautiful but I think about how old the ice is and what it has been since it was formed. How the earth has changed since it has been there. Thank you for sharing the videos with us
this video is really impressive! the way you captured the glaciers calving is stunning. however, i can't help but feel like we focus too much on the spectacle of nature without addressing the climate crisis that contributes to this phenomenon. it's a little bittersweet to watch such beauty knowing how much it's changing. what do you all think?
Truly an amazing thing to see, I'd love to see it first hand. And then when you think of all that time it took to create these/this, it just becomes more astonishing.
@@1marcelo Not tall at all when you consider that glaciers used to be a mile or more thick. They may have been thicker on land than on sea. And they used to be smooth enough to travel on . . . carefully of course.
Amazing how the dark mountain in the background gives that moonscape lighting effect in the first clip. Bright white daylight shining from the side, near horizon and a black sky. Like the arctic has no atmosphere or something. You see it zoomed out at 5:56
This glacier is calving. Evidently a LOT of people here do not know what calving means. Glaciers that terminate at a shoreline _and are growing_ reach a point where they can no longer support their own weight. Guess what happens then. It happens over and over and over and…as long as the glacier is growing. That is why tourists have been visiting it for _decades._
It would be fascinating if they had a drone or aircraft, that would scan the glacier with radar to find the weaknesses in the glacier and predict the weaknesses and eventually areas that would be falling off next.
Everyone complaining about the people reacting because it interferes with YOUR enjoyment. 🙄 Some of it is probably hysteria anyway. Those chunks of ice can create pretty big waves.
No entiendo las risas y aspavientos de la gente. Si yo estuviera ahí, sentiría tanta impresión y maravilla que sería incapaz de articular palabra ante ese espectáculo. Y también un poco de pena al ver desaparecer algo que debería ser eterno😢
This video is amazing and fascinating. I just don’t understand why they have to put a fake picture above the caption? The picture they show isn’t in the video anywhere.
Spectacular moments of nature are thoroughly spoiled by the over-dramatical screeches from some of those watching. If only the screeching people had respect for those who want to watch in quiet awe it would have been so much better.
Titled as Monster and yet the first event we see is equivalent to the ice tray falling from your freezer onto the floor. Although the next one is literally, a (monster), rising from the sea.

I agree, I don't think I'll ever go there to witness in person!
I love seeing these ...I would never go there though....!!!
I could have not said that any better!!😊
Everyone should visit these sites many times so they can see just how fast these glaciers are growing!
It's really exquisitely beautiful!!!! To maximize my enjoyment I turned the sound down, so I didn't have to listen to the inane chatter.
if you're inane Berkey won't hang with ya
That’s what I do!
What would make these videos even more spectacular is if the audience could watch without all the ridiculous noises.
You do not say? I immediately muted it too! But, I am also very disturbed by the fact that they are happy, while it is not a joyful sight at all!
Shut the sound, so u don’t have to listen to it.

Does anyone else think the iceberg coming up out of the water at 2:02 looked like a ice monster? lol
Yes, scared the crap outta me lol
The Floor Boss rising up.
Gosh! I thought "What is THIS?"
Only American's by the sound of all the "Whooping, screaming, and Aaaaw Ma Gawding."
I saw that too! So scary. I would expect the ice to stay under the water, but what a shock to see it emerge and look like a monster at that!
The actual spectacle is in itself stunning but I can't help imagining the depth of the water all this ice is dropping into!

Tens of thousands of years ago it didn't matter as much as it does today, but, that conveyor belt is speeding up, that's the big worry for us now.

Beautiful, natural, non AlGore swindle event.
WOW, i'm so in awe of nature

AWESOME!!!!!
As this glacier falls appear exciting, we cannot ignore or forget that they are a representation of drastic environmental changes
The greatest thing about this, is that ice is has probably been frozen long before us humans walked the earth 🌎
its probably a bad thing that this much ice is melting off but something about it is just sooo satisfying to watch
lol
I am sure that this has happened for thousands, if not millions of years, but it is happening much more often now.

Where's it going?

Nice video though

Yes, let's fly aircraft over the glacier so the vibration from the sound and rotors will hasten the fracturing and demise of the glacier.
