This car was a legend in its own production time, it still is and it will always be a legend. Cars with this amount of character and soul may never be made again - ever! I can't imagine anyone making a similar video about an electric car 30 years from now! LONG LIVE FOSSIL FUEL CARS!
Its funny cause 5 years ago i was on the EV bandwagon. Now i dont want it to happen. BOOOOOOOOO HISSSSSS eh start collecting great ICE now. There is no soul or personality in ev's. They are driving appliances only. Tech ppl love them, car ppl are on the fence but when thats said they fall in line.
@@aurorajones8481 i agree when it comes to 80s/90s vehicles, but tell me, how much soul does a brand new ice from today have? you cant just replace something because everything is electrically controlled and everything is overloaded, so no, new ice's dont have more soul than any EV
I would love to have a 500e AMG in my garage. I miss that old body style, it truly is my favorite body of Mercedes. My dad used to work for a dealer, he left in 1993. This is such an iconic look for Mercedes. 1st car I ever drove when I got my permit to drive was a 600 SL at the dealer. Long story, but the owner of dealer loved my father like a son, and treated me like family too. Thank you for bringing me back to my youth. I do own a 2014 C63. But the 500 would look nice sitting next to it
I bought a W124 off Richard at Mercseller. A brilliant car that still looks awesome. Richards knowledge of classic Mercs is incredible and helped me so much in buying my car. Theres no better classic cars than Mercedes
100% agree!!! 500E should have been added to that legendary game then ;) BTW that NFS Porsche Unleashed game was one of the most realistic and smart in terms of physics.
Great vid and a trip down memory lane 👌🏼 having owned a one owner German speck 1993 MY 500E for 3 years I appreciate your informative and accurate review 👌🏼😎 As an ex owner I’d also like to add that they can suffer from head gasket issues due to the thigh fit of the 5 litre V8 and the inevitable overheating that follows. My 500E had the engine top end rebuild and a new transmission replaced by the same supplying dealer in Stuttgart at around 160K kms few years before I acquired it from the original owner. If looked after they are capable of some mega miles. Sold my 500E with 256K kms in perfect working order back to a German owner. Overall these cars are a fantastic bit of automotive engineering 👌🏼 ... sometimes I wish I still had mine 🤩 but such as life.
It’s very unlikely the head gasket failed, unless the engine overheated or had a coolant leak at some point. The head gasket are extremely reliable on these cars
The depth of information and its presentation is of a quality Mercedes-Benz themselves should be proud of. An absolutely stunning video. Your work is amazing. 🤍
At the beginning I thought like ohh another e500 video out here. But when I started wathing it. I understood that you made a very very comprehensive research and it is definetely a thumbs up!
Nice! I have the W124 Diesel, a 1987 & 1995, OM603, OM606. These are long distance, heavy cruisers. Slow off the line, still love them. I can only imagine what a speed racer W124 500E must be like! Nothing but yeah!!!
My favorite Mercedes of all time. Has always been one of my top 5 dream cars of all time, next to the Ferrari F355 GTS, the Ruf CTR2, the e46 BMW M3 CSL, and the current Merc E63 AMG. I actually like the E60 AMG from the 90s better than I like the 2020 E63 AMG even though it's over 25 years older and lacks the current tech. That's how awesome of a great car it was.
It's hard to put your finger on what made the them so solid, thick a feel campare to other cars. You have to have sat in it, closed the doors, felt it roll down a street...it's one of my absolute favourites too, it's just...complete, somehow. .
When I got my Mercedes I had no idea that an E-class had a 4 cylinder motor option. I though it would be a boring car, but no, it scoots along much better than my old corvette did but with 3 times the fuel economy. Its 11 years old now, like new with a new subframe and rear suspension replaced on warranty. It drives better than when I purchased it new.
Thanks for the upload! Perfect production as always! I clearly remember the time when E500s were "cheap" like 10-12 years ago. Unfortunately, I was just a teen back then. Definitely in my top 3 bucket list cars.
Growing up me neighbor had one of these. In his Garage was the Stuttgart flag. The 959 did not come out to much. A modified 930 was his daily. His wife got to choose between a E34 M5, E39 M5, 850 CSI, and a 635CSI. One of the first Audi S4 wagons or estate in Europe. They were both very friendly and knowledgeable about their vehicles and worked on them in their excellent garage
Great documentary on the 500E. Lots of details and well explained. Loved the Need For Speed: Porsche 2000 Soundtrack btw. Brought Back good memories !!!
I don't know. I think the Aston Martin Vantage is the most beautiful coupe I have ever seen, but this could be the most beautiful sedan I have ever seen. I just discovered this car today and I'm obsessed.
Бруно Гений. Такой человек рождается один раз в тысячи лет не. Автомобили созданные этим инженером с большой буквы будут воплощением дизайна и технологий на все времена.
I've got a Cayman and a 635CSi but this will be my next car. You can tell this was thoughtfully designed and was the pinnacle of consumer car technology at the time of its development.
But BMW s never looked this good and so ahead in time, just the opposite imho. Maybe a coupé in the 90s with hidden headlights but generic un comparisson
@@Argiedan In my opinion, it is BMW that looks better over the years and only cars from the M156 era can match the BMW from their period, because before the M156, BMW was out of reach. A large proportion of older Mercedes models look very poor or look good only in the strongest versions with styling packages, and in the case of BMW, the well-kept "regular" E34 or E30 are beautiful cars.
500E/E500 also have different headlights from the regular 124. In the 500 the high beams are where the fog lights are in the regular 124 (close to the grill), and the fog lights in the 500 have been moved to the bumper. They did this to give the 500 a stronger/brighter high beams for traveling at high speeds at night. Also I believe the 500 had a smaller diameter steering wheel and a quicker steering ratio.
Wrong. They did it only because in German rules (tüv) that says there is maximal offset from fog light center to the side of the car. The e500 goes wider due to the wider front axle, and wider fender, this distance was missed. So the fog lights had to be placed wider from the center of the car towards the wheel, but there is no opportunity to do so inside the stock light. E400 has same motor, and same Max Speed (ever more possible due to the other gear ratio) and still has standard lights, because having standart w124 fenders.
Thanks, now I finally know how rare my Smoke silver car / dark brown interior '93 500E is and some very nice tidbits of information on the production process I had wrong or didn't know.
MUSIC under video is from great old game 'Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed' Captain Ginger - Psychonaught I have played that game for years , so as 'Mercedes-Benz World Racing' Nice video of legendary car.
I have been lucky enough to own 16 Mercedes Benz models over the past twenty-four years and the W124 E36 E500 is the only one of them that I regret selling. Peerless engineering and build quality coupled with a chassis and steering feedback that promoted and rewarded enthusiastic driving but all delivered in a subtle and discreet package.
AMGmeister,, Thank you, i still miss my 91 car,, had all the late version features,, 320 fronts,, trunk and boot falift.. AMG exhaust.. just fantastic car
Excellent video. Glad to still have mine without any problem since 20 years. Now bringing it from Germany to US. Will miss the high speed Autobahn stretches w/o speed limiter....
Thanks so much. This is a excellent well informed review of one of the most desirable and interesting post war Mercedes Benz car. At this time, an understated classic, with incredible, unique pedigree. Get one while you can. As said in the video, there around 30 years old, so expect to invest if you do!
I also had the pleasure of owning a 1992 500e for 3 years. I sold out back to the person who sold it to me as he regretted selling. Now i regret selling it. There is nothing that drives like a 500e. The fuel mileage was horrendous, 28 litres per 100 KMS (that's about 8.5 miles\gal.) in mixed driving, but so worth it.
Thanks for this info video. I have a ‘91 model with a rebuilt engine and auto box rebuilt by Vath in Frankfurt. Love my car and hope it stays with me until I can no longer take care of it....
Excellent excellent video. One extra note I noticed not mentioned, the E500 Limited had one feature not offered in previous 500E/E500’s standard feature 880 - remote door lock which is why you’ll see below the door lock a small box for the remote and trunk.
Thank you for this epic video..We are stucking with this E500 model these days in our workshop and this video helps me a lot to find some important things about this beast ❤

I can predict that the w124 300E is gonna sky rocket in price too if many people use them to build 500E replicas.
Mercedes-Benz W124 300E awesome legend ❤
This 500E is so beautiful and still so modern looking. Hard to believe it was designed in the 1970s and still stay fresh and modern looking.
