- Sad times today as 43007 & 43008 make their last mainline revenue appearance for Cross Country working 1V50 from Edinburgh Waverley to Plymouth.
Both HST powercars are expected to be removed once back at Laira prior to making on final mainline working on the Leeds - Swanage XC farewell charter later this month.
Seen at Tamworth High Level..
Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching.

These carriages were extremely comfortable.
Indeed but getting old now.
The mk3's were the best riding and most comfortable for long journeys
@@simonwass6315 Agreed although the Phase 1 4CIG emus took some beating for comfort.
A sad day indeed
I remember seeing a production HST for the first time at York station in the summer of 1978 when I was 10 years old. Little did I know then that there would still be HSTs running 45 years later. But, as they say, all good things have to come to an end, and without a doubt the HSTs have earned their retirement
My dad worked on the commissioning of the ECML sets at Heaton Depot in Newcastle in the 70's certainly my favourite train as you said definitely earned their retirement
Nice to see the power cars in the liveries that suited them best, even with the trail of muck down the cab of the blue/yellow power car - how I remember that from my youth! I'm of an age where I remember their introduction on the ECML and being angry at them displacing my beloved Deltics, but now they too are gone...
HST, class 43 plus mark 3s, thepinnacle of British rail service. Anything ‘replacing’ this is a retrograde step.
I assumed these 2 were gonna be working the final service on the 18th, which is a shame if they’re not.
Managed to catch this in Somerset earlier and didn’t realise it would be the last and only time, I got lucky!
México has bought 4 of these trains and will be put on service in Yucatán to complement the New Maya train. We know they are a legend in the UK. Great machines.
It'll be good to see them continuing to be utilised..
Thanks for the video, sad to see them go, end of an era really.
Farewell old friends😢😢
Amazing video, it will be very sad to see these go!
Hard luck passengers, it's nothing but Voyagers from now on! 🤴 CrossCountry (all train companies, to be fair): we don't care about our customers' comfort! 😂
Agreed but not the TOCs the DFT/government to blame.
You have to agree the Voyagers are reliable
@@chriso8485 Indeed I have never heard of one breaking down
Funny word progress replace the Rolls Royce of DMU with plastic, smelly cramped Voyagers(4 coaches Aberdeen-Penzance anyone?) They are beaten just for plastic rubbish by the IETs/Pendolinos blame must also be put on the rolling stock companies whose sole purpose is profit e.g told Southern to scrap 40 455 units to replace them with...nothing result short formed trains and overcrowding
@@andrewganley9016 It was a DFT decision to remove the XC HSTS and the 455s and 313s, although regarding the 313s as well as being nearly 50 years old plus the tragic death of that Driver at West Worthing probably accelerated their removal too. You are right though, the 455s were removed and everything short formed there after. The Voyagers, whilst relaible, are totally inadequate for the services they run on, plus, as you quite rightly say. are cramped and stink like sewage farms. The word comfort on the railway has disappeared. In my opinion travelling by train in this country used to be a pleasure, now it is just an expensive ordeal, sad as it sounds I just go by car everywhere now.
2023 what a great british design mk3s still comfortable and the travelling public still love them ,and the sad part we dont manufacture locos are rolling stock, funny old country uk !
Originally from two different sets. W43007, as it started life, was one end of 253 003 whilst W43008 was half the power for 253 004.
I videoed this working at Wadborough L/C, purely by chance, I had no idea this was the pair's last hurrah.
oh darn, did I miss the final deployment of these HST's on Cross Country? They pass by my home town, hoped to catch them this month knowing they wouldn't be around for the winter time table... :-(
They’ll be working a Leeds to Swanage charter on 26/09/23 so you’ll have a chance then subject to where you live. 👍
I live in Newton Abbot, so I guess not... :-( @@trainsplanes
Oooh 43007 in its proper clothes!
Great capture 😢
007 and 008 are on the final diagram today
Nice video great camera work as usual as always keep it up bye for now Philip
DestinationsTrainsPlanes could we have a view of Worksop up storage sidings again as the 465/9s and 466s have recently been taken up there.
Hi, sorry for the delay. I’ll get some footage when I’m next up there. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks 👍
Alright Thanks Mate!@@trainsplanes
Excellent video 👍
Any ideas as to what will happen to them? scrap, storage, preservation?
I'm assuming that these two powercars will be preserved, along with 43384 (43184).
They will be back out for the last day and indeed the railtour.
wrong, 18th September on 1E67 will be 7/8
It's the 18th September the last date not today
Are the pair already in north and stay until September 26th when they are due to go Swanage
They’re both at Laira currently. It looks possible they could work 1E67 one last time now to position north for the charter to Swanage.
Hi thank you for the information have great day regards RNS
Shame, I was going to see these. At least they won’t be scrapped.
Some might.. but hopefully these two powercars get preserved
most XC and GWR powercars wont be scrapped i dont think@@terrier_productions
Knowing how loved the HSTs are, and with 17 Class 43 Powercars already preserved, I couldn't agree more to be honest.. Colas might buy a few or maybe even ScotRail. We will just have to see@@SJTrains2024
@@terrier_productions I heard that colas rail are going to have them but don't quote me on that
Look how bad the paint job is on the power can once you see it it will give you nightmares
@DestinationTrainsPlanes whats going to happen to 43184,007 and 008 after the XC is Retired
184, 007 & 008 will most likely get preserved
@therailtourer I don't want to see them in a museum doing nothing I want to see them active either on the Mainline as Charter power cars or at Deisel galas
@@danspotter8618 I never specified in a museum - the NRM already has 43002 & 43102. Hopefully in the next 5 years, we will see full IC125 sets in a classic liveries operating railtours all over the UK. The fact that 89001 will be on a 5 Year loan to LSL when she’s finished her restoration tells you that HSTs will return to the mainline one day and not in a Midland Pullman livery!
The Severn Valley Railway has proved that a HST can operate on a heritage railway as long as its of a decent length
All good things must come to an end, but I don’t see why! Trains from an era when we built things in this country and then the bean counters moved in. Why are they being withdrawn?
basically cost of keeping them going on the rails like everything with the DFT everything comes at a price, but if you want to thank someone for destroying the rail industry look at your tory Government privatise everything.
@@pj6641 hi Paul thanks for your reply as for Tory governments I agree. After working in the rail industry for 40 years it is painful to see what other parts of British industry they have also wrecked.
Thry could have kept all those HSTs for railtours. right?
LSL have HST's for rail tours with Paxman VP185 power units
@@pj6641 yea they could have gotten 43184 and 43008. by the way ain't 43002 in the national railway museum?
So sad. The awful GWR Hitachi's don't come close to the HSTs. I don't see the so called progress
NOOOOOOOOOOO WHYYYY
😥
Sadly didnt make it to Edinburgh for the last northbound run of this pair last night, but got the penultimate one the previous Monday

After this service there off to laira depot
You must get something for your nerves!
Haha! I don’t think anything would take my twitch away! 🤣🤣
Not painted. Wrapped. What a insult. Voyager far better. Please forgive crayons. I am not allowed anything sharp.
