Well it's not just about the singer's view. Yes, that's important, but we all are delivered from something. I never had drug or alcohol problems, but God has delivered me from depression, rebellion, and many other things. But if someone can't relate with the song, they should be thanking God they never went through that, and thanking and praising God that God delivered that person from what they went through. We can't just edify ourselves, but others that God has delivered them from their sins.
My church definitely doesn't preach that you have to clean yourself up FIRST. I've seen people walk in and get the holy ghost 5 minutes into praise and worship, no baptism, no "cleaning up". Just a heart with a pure desire to seek God. That's all you ever need.

And I have to say that one can recognize the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and the absence of the same. Someone may sing it more professionally than this group of people, but there is no doubting that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is on them and with them.
I'm a member of my church's praise team, and I know of times I sang out of key, but the Spirit of God was still moving. But before church service we spend about 20 minutes in the prayer room. I know POA spends more time praying before services, and there is always someone in their prayer room praying. But what's most important about the music and songs are the lyrics.. the message of the song. It's not about how it's sung, but that it comes from the heart. That's where the anointing comes from.
This song gives me the chills everytime I listen to it. WOW!!! God really has annointed this choir and this man of God. WOW!!! I just cant get over how awesome this is!!!. No problem there. People like to nitpick us born again christians over the fast music causing what they call "mass hysteria" and wild music. Some even say we stop when the music stops, which is sometimes true because the order of the service is changing. I, like you, always relate to the words and that's why I personally will dance to songs fast and slow. Sometimes I don't even care about the beat. I'll dance offbeat because to me it's not always about the music but the message. God bless :)
