From my farm to your home. 🏡
My name is Kaleb Wyse and here, you will find delicious recipes, videos from my farm, garden, and fun home projects. My knowledge has been earned from years of home cooks and farmers in my family. wyseguide.com
A farm is much more than a house to live in; it’s a lifestyle. My passion for gardening and landscaping came from outdoor work with my mom in our expansive farm yard, my love for baking came from innumerable short walks to my grandma’s house to make cookies, and as a farmer, my dad taught me that we are the stewards of our land.
So whether you live in a city center or have decided rural life is for you, I hope to inspire you with the projects and recipes I use in daily life. We can’t all live on a farm, but we all need farms in our lives. From the dirt in my vegetable garden to the flour in my kitchen, I’ll show you everything I love to do.

I came on here to say what others have said. I cut a wide strip of plastic and line most of the pot with it, leaving the bottoms open for better drainage. I guess it's a learn and do sort of thing, whatever your environment dictates. That size looks perfect for the area!
Do you watch Garden Answer? She found a new type of tunnel that she seems to really like. The one she got seems to be thicker and not as transparent, but I believe she said that you choose the thickness when you order. Thank you for encouraging us to get out there and plant!

I put a small disposable baby diaper in the bottom of my coco fiber hanging baskets. Works beautifully!!

I’ve seen, on RUclips, a number of people line the inside/bottom of their baskets with plastic and punch a few holes in it to drain excess water. It helps retain some water and also extend the life of the coco liner. This would give your fern a bit more water than your succulents also.

Kaleb, to secure our row covers we screwed large washers into & along the wood edges of our raised beds and applied large magnets on the outside of the row covers to fasten onto the washers: It's a perfect system to keep the edges taut!

You could try pvc pipes filled with sand to hold your cover down. I'm going to try it on mine this year

I used a water retention product from Miracle Gro last year for the first time, pots as well as hanging baskets. It worked pretty well, but you’re correct about not needing very much of the product-it really does absorb the water & turns into a gel blob. Your porch ferns look lovely!

I’ve struggled with my pots drying out for a long time. For the last several years I’ve lined the baskets with a single use plastic bag (stores don’t use them anymore , so I hung onto my collection) that I’ve poked holes in. They last from year to year and have solved the problem. I also maintain a pretty strict watering schedule now too, which has also helped.

I enjoyed watching how you put on your row cover. I used row covers for the first time this year to protect my new growth hostas and basil from rabbits. I used stakes to hold down the cover but I like how you used the posts. I’ll have to try that next year.

For my containers that have cocoa fiber liners, I take a Menards plastic bag (these are nice quality) cut off the handles and cut down two sides by tge seam and lay these out in the bottom of the liner before adding my soil. Make sure you cut 1” slits in the plastic bag to allow some drainage. It works wonderfully! I’m in Sioux Falls SD zone 4b

I have used soil moist mats. It keeps the soil moist and also they don’t drip on the porch as bad. I recently saw Aquasav coco liner and decided to try one. Ferns are so pretty!

Do any of the plants under the netting need pollination?

    • @WyseGuide
      @WyseGuide  16 дней назад

No, they do not! This is why row covers can be used. Everything under these row covers are cole crops which means they are harvested before they flower and need pollination. 🌿

Hi! Can you share where you get these again? I missed where you said in the video.
Also, this maybe a dumb question but do you not have to worry about pollinators? Is it bad if bees can’t access your garden?
