I love everything you do - the design, the creation, the selection of plants, the amending, the digging, the watering - I love it all. My absolute favorite, however, is you have kept Grandma's tulips - those plant we have been gifted from friends & family are the most precious things in our gardens. I have iris that have moved from my Grandmother's home in Michigan to my mom's garden in Atlanta to my former home and now at my current home - they are my most treasured plants in my garden. I always enjoy your current projects and look forward to seeing what's in store for your garden in the future !!! thanks for sharing it all with us ...
Cool task planting up hellebores. Most people have full sun gardens with isolated areas of shade/ semi shade. I on the other hand have a part-shade to shade garden with a few isolated areas of sun😆😅. I enjoy seeing what others like to plant in their shade gardens. Thanks for sharing Kaleb.
That bed is going to look glorious! I've seen hellebores sell for as much as $35 at local nurseries in Kansas, which seemed extreme. Then I found some for $24 elsewhere, so I bought three because they felt affordable (crazy, I know). My older ones are surrounded by lots of seedlings, though, so I've been moving them around the garden -- I treat them like precious gifts in light of the going prices.
Wow. I got lucky. I use freecycle and nextdoor to get low cost or free plants. I paid $3 for dozens of hellebore, and nothing for lots of spiderwort and 5 milkweed plants. These plants are from nearby gardeners, who offer plants they are dividing or replacing to nearby gardeners in order to keep the plants from the landfill.
Like you i hand one area that's both shaded and dappled shade. I have huge 70 to 80ft spruce. I am amazed at what I'm able to grow under it. 6 years ago i bought an 1850 farmhouse and it's been a challenging area with ivy left to overtake everything. Thankfully ivy has been removed and we now have a gorgeous memorial garden for my father whom we lost 2.5 years ago. Wish i could upload pics. Thank you for sharing these lovely plants maybe I'll add them as well
I’m new here , have enjoyed watching you , so you stated you moved in 14 years ago , so you must have been very young. I love your beautiful renovations 🏡
With all the beautiful green color of this bed.... some color would look great. Try some shade loving impatience to add gorgeous color for summer and fall. Feed them a little and they will give you a show.
Hellebore is great! The prices in your area are much better than ours- fancy varieties are over $40! It's worth it though, mine were blooming in January!
There is a house in our neighborhood that has a large, well established maple tree. Maybe 6 or 7 years ago, they put in a 2-3 foot retaining wall type ring around it, filled it up with soil and plants. It was buried way to deep up around the trunk, and I am always watching to see when it will start dying off due to that.
I am envious of your level land. This bed will look great. I am curious about the maple in your video. Can you tell us the species? From the brief look at the bark it looks like it is a Norway maple. Thanks.
Question: I have 3 huge Hellebores here in Central Oregon. ❤ Love them! We are at 3300 ft elevation. They Bloom even covered with Snow around Christmas time 😊 When do you expect yours to Bloom? I have a Great Hosta garden under a Choke Cherry tree.. they Love it here even though we get into the 100's during Summer (High Desert here) Loved this vid because the Hosta/Hellebore bed is the highlight of our Arid Garden! 😊
What were the other varieties of Hellebores did you plant and where did you find them? I am heading to Iowa City in a couple of weeks and are looking for a couple of the wedding series varieties.
