Having owned an 860GTE even though the electric start worked twice only, I loved the long legs of that bike, listening to that bevel run was very emotional. Then to hear the Norton's sound and the Honda 4, wow talk about aural memories of the 70's. Thank you all. Cheers
Many thanks Steve. I really appreciate your great comment. That was a lot of fun to read. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and it brought back some good memories. Best wishes, Mike
Kara's comment about TT Motors in Berkeley brought back good memories. I lived in the East Bay from 1976-1996 and spent a lot of time at TT Motors. I'm still in touch with the former owner, John Gallivan, who usually has a space in the swap meet at Barber each October and Mike Rettie (former parts guy) who lives in Alameda and plays with a sweet featherbed Norton International. Good times, indeed. I wonder if I crossed paths with Kara back in the day. I had (and still have) a 750GT Ducati so I share her love of beveldrive machines. Really enjoyed that little visit to the cul de sac.
You very much Corey! Wow it's a small world. You may have indeed crossed paths. It might've been your bike on the bench that Kara heard 😉 and which started this love affair. I hope you are doing well. Best wishes, Mike
Wow ! Kara really knows her stuff , the mods she has made are practical and enhance the machine , she is the perfect-owner for this bike . I owned the 750 GT model before this , one of two bikes, I truly regret selling . You know some very interesting people , it really sets your Channel apart from others . Dave NZ
Hi Dave, thank you very much for your kind note. I really appreciate it. I do enjoy seeing so many different bikes in the cul-de-sac this year. Also have a few more lined up and invitations out to some more folks, so I hope you will enjoy some upcoming episodes. Best wishes, Mike
These visits are so great. Kara sure made that bike her own. It's wonderful. I enjoy hearing the histories of the bikes from their owners, and their previous owners in this case. Looking forward to more Mike. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Aidan. I've got a few more in the pipeline and some more invitations sent out, so hopefully there will be more visits in the cul-de-sac. Best wishes, Mike
This is a glorious bike and amazing story to hear of the past. What a beautiful classic looking bike. If Honda were to make this bike looking like this today with a modern engine it would be such a hit with the retro scene.
Thank you very much! Yes, they look great don't they. And that instrument panel looks like it came straight from the factory. Kara has done a remarkable job with the machine work. Hope all is well, best wishes, Mike
Man you must have great neighbors. I used to get grief every Sunday morning. 4-5 guys at my house. Untill.... get home, my neighbor is frantic. Flat tire, wedding to attend. Grabbed my floor Jack, 4 buddy's, on there way in 5min. Never a complaint again.
I had one of these, and for years after having to part with it had dreams of finding it under a tarp in the back shed. I was in outback Queensland Australia and this machine was the pinicacle of highway travelling. Changed to clip on handle bars so you'd find the sweet spot for wind resistance and relax. Ohh that mesmerising tone of motor. I nodded off on the straights! No other machine had the 860's stability. Kangeroos were taken head on (you aim for them) and they'd go other the top. Wallabies underneith. And I'd hit the big town after a full day's ride, and it would snuff at the lights if i didn't blip the throttle, and it was up onto the centre stand and doing the kick start to the tune of car horns. God i had some fun. Thanks for the memories. Steve not Vicki.
Thank you very much John. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, it looks really cool, doesn't it. Hope to see it again on the road one of these days. Best wishes, Mike
Thanks Anthony. Yes, I know what you mean. I love hearing the different sounds of the bikes, both here in the cul-de-sac and outside our club meetings when everyone takes off. It's my favorite part. 😜
Lovely Duc. Neat hearing Kara mention T.T.Motors. Spent a lot of time at their shop, too. Always buying parts for my Commando and had a bunch of service there, too. They carried Moto Marini, Ducati, Triumph and Norton. I always lusted after the 750 SS; wish I could have afforded it
I found a roller with engine in Oklahoma City. I loaded it in the truck and took it by the state capital to see if I could get a title. I ran into a sympathetic agent with bike pictures all over the wall in fromt of his desk. He asked me "What do you want to do with that bike?" And i said "ride it of course." That was good enough for him and I got my title. It took parts of two other bikes to make one complete running bike but I got there. I rode that bike all over and even too it to a track day. It was not fast but it was freight train stable. The body work was a slab sided horror show but I painted mine all black and then painted the Ducati badges with a gold background. They was a really fantastic bike.
Thanks a lot JR. Glad you enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your great story. I really enjoyed it. It's pretty rare to find someone these days at the DMV who gets bikes! Fortunately there are a few smaller ones in this area with some helpful guys, even if they don't know much about motorcycles. Best wishes, Mike
i had one of those. finally just re-wired it, as there was an intermittent short i could not find. there was a certain truck-like quality about the handling, made high speeds a bit more relaxed, not so good around town. all up, it was just a 'cooking' quality wine, ducati does better, at an appropriate price.
Hi Mike, hope your well? Kara’s made some nice touches to that Ducati what a lovely machine and she is so skilled.. another brilliant video mate keep them coming😊👍
Another cool and unusual bike. Kara is very talenetd and focused. the sounds of those bikes coming and going are the sounds of a time machine transporting me back decades. Good show.

Hi Guillermo, thank you very much for your kind note. Yes, the Honda is fantastic. I would love to see that back in the cul-de-sac again one of these days. Best wishes, Mike
Lovely bike, great engine. Kara seems a real Ducati enthusiast. I had a 1979 900SS, should have kept it, they're too expensive in England to ever buy another.

I had one shop to get parts from and eyeballed a 750 and later, an 860 wanting to even just take a test ride, at a time I couldn't even afford to risk it. Hi Manfred! Thank you very much for your note. I'm glad you liked this episode. Hope you will continue to enjoy future episodes including some bikes from your own country 😉🇩🇪
Your friend certainly knows all about the Ducati V twins. Lots of useful historic info he provided. Back then Ducati was not on the radar in terms of street motorcycles, Laverda were though - that big 1979 triple they made was a proper Italian thoroughbred. I think it was called the Jota?
Hi Steve, yes it was indeed called the Jota. That is another fantastic Italian bike. Would love to see one of those in the cul-de-sac one of these days!
Huh went to a vintage motorcycle meet in Montreal this last weekend and saw a pair of side covers for sale that said 860 and could not think and had to ask my buddy who knew right away.
Hi Stephen, yes we had the air conditioning cranked up in the garage. The parasol at the end of the video is from Kara's last visit with her Norton Commando. That was also a scorcher. We're going to have a couple of 100°F plus days over the weekend, so it's going to be hot again!
Hi Mike . Would you send me your email? I have a 1974 Ducati 750 Sport I bought new when I was 20. Then I have a pic of my 900 GTS I rode around Colorado in the 70s. Thanks for your channel. It certainly brings a smile to us aging kids. After being off motor bikes for about 42 years, I finally had the means to revive the Sport and then I just picked up a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. Pretty crazy riding a modern bike.
Compared to $100k green frames and $75k 900SS bikes then yes, the 860-900GTS range of bikes are affordable. The bigger issue is that is seems that the 860 bikes have sometimes been abused badly or scrapped as parts bikes for their more expensive brethren.
A lady who know's her bikes, a big up from England. Much respect xx
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video and best wishes! Cheers, Mike

Another great vlog Mike. Looked hot you had the parasol up ?
Hi Stephen, yes we had the air conditioning cranked up in the garage. The parasol at the end of the video is from Kara's last visit with her Norton Commando. That was also a scorcher. We're going to have a couple of 100°F plus days over the weekend, so it's going to be hot again!
Lovely very unusual Ducati; I like the sound of it! (Mike - what is the plaque in the conifer tree?
😜😜 I had to watch the video again to understand what you meant. I think it was just a glare of the sun on the camera lens. Best wishes, Mike
@@TheMightyGarage Thanks Mike, I didn’t think of that🇬🇧
Hi Bob, you can reach me via email at themightygarage@icloud.com Thanks a lot for your note! I really appreciate it. Wow, great bikes!
Nice Honda SS.
Sure is!! I would love to see back in the cul-de-sac as a special featured bike one of these days.
what happened with the side covers😬
Affordable? Not any more.
Compared to $100k green frames and $75k 900SS bikes then yes, the 860-900GTS range of bikes are affordable. The bigger issue is that is seems that the 860 bikes have sometimes been abused badly or scrapped as parts bikes for their more expensive brethren.
