1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, save states, or RNG manipulation
4. No evasion moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- *In gen1, evasion boosting is allowed if the Pokemon does it through means other than learning the move by level up or TM. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed. (This exception is to keep ranking consistent with my legacy videos.)
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons all my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- All in-battle glitches are allowed in generation 1
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1, banned in gen2, and allowed for bypassing terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
-- The ability Pickup can only be used if the starter has it

RUclips generally performs worse in January, and actually December generates higher-than-average revenue compared to other months. There’s actually a monetary gain for Scott to make all his videos for December and nothing for January, he’ll get great exposure even with no uploads.
You deserve a break! Don't apologize for that. It's not about quantity, it's about quality! Thanks for the month of Scott, already looking forward to the streams!

Scott, there is absolutely zero reason for you to apologise for taking January off. You've produced 15+ weeks of content for the channel during the single month of December. Which I imagine has taken a huge amount of effort from you.

I can't lie.. Every. Single. Time. I collect TM43 pulling down Camper Flint his dialogue makes me think of your old GF memes.
In Erika's gym it's worth considering battling the trainers on the right side for 6 SpA EVs instead of 2 Atk, and 1 Def EV. It's 1 more Pokemon to defeat, but those EVs sure are nice. Mewtwo would have done better against the Poison types on the other side against that nasty Exeggcute!
The sub 50 min time is absolutely possible. While pursuing Round 2 (going to Sevii Islands after Blaine), my recent Mewtwo run got 49:46 at the end of Round 1. Mewtwo is a monster.

Finally, taking January, the worst month for RUclips creators monetarily off to refine he brand and get a small backlog of videos started is a genius move.
Interesting thought I had while watching this: most of your other times in the tier list so far are with Pokémon evolving throughout the play through, which likely contributes to the giant gap between mewtwo and everyone else. It’s still a busted Pokémon though. Love the content, enjoy your January!

Ive been watching a little less RUclips overall this year, which is a good thing i used to watch way too much. Ive gone from having not enough to watch to having to pick and choose what i want to watch. However I always prioritise your new videos even this month and watch them asap.

Feels like there's a lot of optimizing that could be done with Mewtwo here, so I'm interested in seeing how fast the eventual second playthrough will be down the line. That being said, enjoy your break! You deserve it!

Very impressive performance with Mewtwo! While I’m not surprised, it’ll be interesting to see if anyone comes close to overthrowing its time (maybe Chimecho in FireRed will do the trick 😂). Also while I’ll surely miss the fully produced videos in January, you’ve more than earned the break!
I suspect kyorge might have a reasonable chance 100% accurate thunders and rain boosted water moves with ice beam coverage seem pretty powerful.
its speed might be an issue though.
@@XenithShadow Base 90 speed isn't bad. It also has options in Earthquake, Body Slam, Rock Slide, etc to use its base 100 Attack. It's basically a slower but much more powerful Starmie but probably better because there's more options as far as moves go. Kyogre certainly could outdo Mewtwo. It's got the power (weather-boosted STAB and the bonus of a stronger Electric attack in Thunder that becomes reliable in rain) and it's got the survivability for anything it can't one-shot. Water is better defensively and arguably offensively than Psychic in Gen 3.
@@ShiningJudgment666 The lati twin are out of the running due to only have psywave as an attacking move till level 20. Even if they were allowed to have their souldew to hold. The best place to look for contender would likely be in the emerald runs catagory for any stand outs there.

Potentially medicham could be good for fire red, it also possible the emerald teiring is heavily biased towards pokemon that match up well into steven.

Taking a break for January is totally reasonable, Scott. A video a day is a brutal workload for December and taking some time to refocus on other stuff makes total sense and is completely fair. We'll be here when you're back in February.

You absolutely deserve to rest after this month, you,the editor and thumbnail artists have been pushing high quality content throughout the month, taking a pause to recharge and get some margin with future releases is the best decision.

No surprise that Psychics are still busted because even in FRLG, there are no Dark-types, only Dark-type moves, and the only Ghost-types are also Poison-type.

Mewtwo is my favorite legendary Pokémon! After seeing the solo run from Emerald a while back I was interested to see how Mewtwo would fair in Kanto where there's no Dark types to worry about like in Hoenn's early game.
In a previous episode you lamented about how often you joke about Venomoth's typing and I was afraid you were going to abandon the bit. But nope! and we got a huge call back to "did you guys know I have a girlfriend now?"
This is like a true season finale with all of the callbacks!
Honestly though.....scott is an absolute legend.

One thing I think that should be implemented in your ranking is either having some way of showing a full evolution line compared to fully evolved starter. Maybe even splitting the rank chart in two? But that might be a little weird cause then we would have to compare a run like this, where there's only 1 stage of evolution, against a full line evolution and also the last stage starter runs.
But for someone who is new and, lets say for instance, watches this video first and sees that Dragonite had a terrible time wouldn't know that you did a full evolution playthrough. There's just a lot of information that is lost when just looking at your rank charts for a new viewer.

Mewtwo did exactly as I expected. And I also think that it can pull a sub 50. It is a lean, mean, ko-ing machine with access to most of the best moves in the game, and access to ice beam and calm mind in earlier battles would have make it easier for Mewtwo to sweep even harder.
Call me a betting man but I'm pretty sure Scott is releasing a Gen 4 playtrough this month
Suggestion for future replay run: Modest nature. Physical Mewtwo is decent, but Modest would’ve turned so many 3 & 2HKOs into 2 & OHKOs respectively. Confusion go brr can get you through to Water Pulse & Shock Wave easily

You get it from Lt Surge so early and I think it would have been useful even without super effective damage. I'd can't wait to see an optimized play through.
