    Fun fact, the only poison-type that can get poisoned in gen 3 is Dustox. The games are hard-coded to have poison- and steel-types be completely unable to get poisoned, but due to an oversight, you can evolve a poisoned Cascoon - which is mono-Bug - and the resulting Dustox will STAY poisoned despite Dustox being Bug/Poison. Once the poison is cured, whether it's through an item or by receiving a party heal such as speaking to your character's mom or using a Pokémon Center, the glitch is corrected and the Dustox can never be poisoned again.
    Edit: Dustox fainting will also fix the glitch, and that includes in-battle fainting as well as overworld damage from the poison status itself.

    • @llSuperSnivyll
      @llSuperSnivyll 11 месяцев назад +9

      It happens with every type change. Acquiring a type with status immunities does not remove the statuses if you had them.
      Oddly it doesn't happen with ability changes. Paralyzing a Pokémon, then giving it Limber, will remove the paralysis at the end of the turn.

    • @mickkelley3776
      @mickkelley3776 11 месяцев назад +4

      @@llSuperSnivyll Yes, meaning evolving an Eevee into a Flareon, for example, means it will stay burned if it wasn't in the first place. It's just that Dustox is the only case for poison-types - steel-types such as Forretress can also be poisoned this way, Dustox is the only poison-type that has this issue. There are other non-poison Pokémon that evolve into poison-types in later generations such as Galarian Slowpoke, but gen 3 is the only generation I'm aware of that has this oversight.

    • @txtp
      @txtp 7 месяцев назад

      This also works for non-poison or steel-type pokemon Terastallizing into one that is poison or steel, still being poisoned and taking damage despite being immune.

    Giovanni's aces finally winning
    The tapirs using hypnosis

    The "Rhydon of gen three"
    A Pure Power powerhouse
    Wattson's ace in Hoenn

    One thing I like about the Hoenn League (at least in R/S as well as OR/AS) is how the pseudo legendaries are used on enemy teams; the strongest Elite Four member uses Salamence while the champion uses Metagross. I think that's really cool and helps to cement them as truly powerful and resilient trainers , considering how long it would take to train a Bagon or Beldum to become powerful. It really makes me wish that the Johto League had given Karen a Tyranitar as her ace, especially because Lance already uses Dragonite (well, three of them, but you know what I mean). In any case, very well done with Metagross, though I wonder if it could've gotten away with using Take Down or Confusion against Wattson's Magneton instead of sacrificing a move slot for Rock Smash.

I noticed you mentioned that the reason you werent able to KO in a single hit Glacia's Sealeo was because of the slow growth rate but I think it might be more related to steel moves dealing neutral damage to the water/ice type combination since water takes half damage from steel. For future runs with Tate/Liza, is Iron Defense actually the play? Since you have one shots on Xatu, Lunatone and Solrock, I think you could just one shot them every turn and then trap Claydol in a healing loop so it'll only get a single attack off. It could save the time of going back to relearn Iron Defense if it is consistent enough to avoid too many resets, and given you were able to sweep through the other three your first attempt I think it might be possible. Fun run as always, Metagross is a beast! I also wonder if keeping Metal Claw over Take Down might be the play when you get Secret Power? Type coverage and a chance to increase attack.

    still not sure what the hell Metagross is supposed to be but it's always been one of the coolest Pokemon since release. Meteor Mash is one of the best move names ever.
    a few Pokemon I'm looking forward to seeing Emerald runs for: Claydol, Swellow, Lunatone & Solrock (vs video perhaps???), Sharpedo, Camerupt, Wailord, and the absolute misery of Volbeat and Illumise. Zangoose might be pretty interesting because it has a few nice advantages, like getting Swords Dance by level up super-early, and Slash not too long after, and 115 attack + 90 speed . it doesn't get Earthquake when it would like to, but although its special isn't great it has an insane special movepool. Zangoose's ability making it immune to being poisoned would come in handy allowing it to set up Swords Dance against Steven's Skarmory. I don't feel like a Zangoose vs Seviper would be competitive because Zangoose is min-maxed better, with Seviper's 100/100 attacking stats kind of a waste when it would like to have either better speed, HP, Defense, or Special Defense.

      However, Metagross's Sp.Atk (especially with the +Atk nature chosen here, but otherwise this'd still be the case) is more lower than its Atk, than Magneton's Sp.Def is lower than its Def. Hi Scott,
    I don't really comment on videos much, but considering this is the end of the Emerald Season for this year, I thought I'd make a comment regarding solo running this game. Have you considered skipping Steven Stone? I appreciate that technically they are the highest level trainer, and being the champion of Ruby and Sapphire, it seems fitting to finish the run with them, but just from watching I think it would be more fun to end the game after the Elite 4.
    When I think about Yellow, there are lots of interesting puzzles to solve; because the toolkits are constrained and you have the badge boost glitch and mimic, so most fights come down to figuring out a puzzle and then executing that in the most efficient way. Crystal is mostly dominated by how you stack up against Red, and is definitely skewed in that direction, again because of the big level jump, but in that game the rest of the challenges are much easier because past Whitney, most of the gyms are fairly trivial, and especially on the second playthroughs you can solve your pokemons problems with Hidden Power. It does mean that runs are quite homogenized in that game but, in my opinion, thats not a bad thing when you get a first run to see the pokemon deal without Hidden Power and if the game didn't have Red there just wouldn't be enough challenge in the run.
    Gen 3, on the otherhand, is quite obviously just the hardest game so far, every gym is a tough challenge, especially Watson and Tate & Liza. Sydney is pretty weak on the elite 4, but most of the rest of them are challenges and Wallace is a pretty difficult champion, even if it seems strange to have 2 water specialised trainers, you can't just counter Wallace with an electric move easily and their pokemon are just incredibly bulky and synergistic. The curve ends at 58 at the Champion, which is a pretty decently high level, but to then have the jump to 78, it completely skews the game so you always have to think about Steven the whole playthrough; where you can't solve any of the games earlier challenges with Rare candys unless the pokemon is just so good against Steven that they become unnecessary to save to this point. It basically becomes thematically a little more like Gen 2 at this point, and I think the games would be much easier to run multiple times if you aimed for your final fight to be against Wallace, because I love your optimisation process and it feels like right now that just wouldn't be feasible in these Games with the current run ending at Steven, maybe it would still be hard but I think more doable.
    Alternatively, i could see a good idea being modding Steven Stone's team to their version from Ruby/Sapphire. The teams are very similar but then you wouldn't have such a massive level jump and have the entire run skewed around 1 trainer in an already pretty difficult game.
    I know you would probably be pretty reluctant to change this; but I'm thinking in the future if you continue wanting to go up the gens there are some games that have some pretty excessive post game content. While in Gen 2 it makes a lot of sense because without it the game would be without any real challenge; and it was always sort of meant to be an extension of the Kanto Games, i think from gen 3 onwards the post game would just make the games almost impossible to do multiple playthroughs with unless you want to be a total masochist with your time. I also think its more interesting having realistic options of using Rare candys in the mid game, like in Yellow as it just adds to your toolkit of ways to get past a problem.
    Anyway, I love your content and hope you continue having fun playing these games and solo running them.

    Hey Scott I’ve been watching you since the beginning as a fan I think it would be cool for you to do runs where u have all the tms from the beginning and maybe u only can learn the move once or something like that idk seems interesting it would make runs like these faster because pseudo legends have great move sets but u have to wait to get the best moves

    But what if Salamence has the Egg Move of Dragon Dance? How much better will it perform?

    • @lenlimbo
      @lenlimbo 11 месяцев назад

      Seing how Steven was the wall for Salamence, quite better. The main problem, though, would be setting against Skarmory, but with Dragon Dance, Flamethrower shouldn't be needed, so Rest, Brick Break, Earthquake and Dragon Dance should take down Steven's team fairly easily. It would beat Metagross time. But again, this run has a few places where Scott made mistakes that cost time for Metagross, either by overtraining in the wrong place, or just combat or moveset mistakes.
      Salamence and Metagross are beasts whom their Slow growth rate BARELY holds back. A bit.

    Against Wallace, couldn’t you Meteor Mash the Wailord (to neuter Water Spout and fish for an ATK boost) and then set up Iron Defense on it to neutralize the later Whiscash and Gyarados rather than try to Rest against Milotic?

    I get the feeling that having Brick Break on your set during Steven was a bad choice. Between Earthquake and Meteor Mash, you cover pretty much everything he can do. Honestly, couldn't Brick Break be replaced with Meteor Mash when you learn it? What disadvantages would that bring?

    I personally would've picked a nature that lowered speed since it's so much faster than everything else early-game, you'll be outsped by almost everything late-game anyway, and the increased special defense would be really helpful against Flannery, the one major trainer (aside from the rival) which may pose a serious threat.

    Do you think Psychich was really that broken after Gen 1?

    • @lenlimbo
      @lenlimbo 11 месяцев назад

      It was still really powerful in Gen 2 (although not to the degree of Gen 1) and Gen 3 was still a good gen for psychic, but not as much as gen 2 (there were actually ghost pokemon with the right stats, and a lot more dark and steel types). After that, it truly begun the downfall of the strongest type of all times in pokemon, with the appearance of strong ghosts that can actually use their moves correctly, the move type split, and the powerful dark and steel types that kept appearing. That also marks the rise of the fighting type, as not only the type that once walled it hard fell from glory, but also Gamefreak kept giving it great moves, like mach punch, close combat, aura sphere, etc.
