Toy Haulers have 2x4 steel tube frames around the door openings with 1.5x1.5 door frame structures with a 1.5x1.5 angle frame for the seal. There is a poly hose gaskets around the door you can get at most RV centers. Placing a double tube at 1/3 intervals was an excellent choice. I removed the sloped floor in my trailer because I didn't want to loose the floor space. And I removed the beaver tail flaps. They are just a place to allow rot and most machines can climb over a 2" lip. I have a drop in board in the door gap for when it's down. Looks like your doing a pretty good job.
Looking good! It's a lot of work, but as you said, it will be the difference between so-so and having done it right. In the end it always pays off to do it right. Thanks for the good update.
Looks like you've almost cracked it. What a fantastic job. You could make a lot of money repairing and selling a few of these. Everything you turn your hand to looks great when finished, it's a credit to you. Another great video
Interesting series! Seeing what the bones of a trailer has been educational and fun. She is sure looking a 1000% better. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Love seeing the progression of your work, keeping the rear door functional is a smart move! Be extra careful with those torsion springs, they store a tremendous amount of energy and you can easily lose a limb or eye if things go awry.
Man, they really hammered that trailer. That's exactly why you use a car trailer for hauling cars and a plant trailer for hauling plant, like mini diggers...
Mustie i have set a number of things on fire welding cuting and grinding including myself. i was going to suggest you consider some diamond plate on the floor so you don't roast your investment. Otherwise it looks great. Oh one more thing if you paint the cables that lift the gates yellow it will slowly fall off but it saves you from many stumbles I have one and it worked great.
Nice. A friend worked as a mechanic for a lawn care company for many years, and if there's a group of people that'll use up, abuse and destroy equipment, it's lawn care or tree service. They kill everything...mowers, chain saws, trailers...the trucks, you name it.
You were probably way better off just cutting it off at the hinge pins and throwing it away, and just frame a whole new door from the get-go. Would've took half the time and headache.. On a side note that setup you have to transport metal is so cool!!
Is that a Homesteader trailer? Looks like it from the way it is made. I just bought a 2023 model and have had it in the shop since the day I bought it. My shop because I don’t want who ever builds these to do the repairs on my new one. Getting a lawyer would have been easier. Good job on yours and thanks for the video
That is excellent work as always. Love your videos. Can't wait for the next one. That trailer is going to be better than new. Well worth your time and money. It will be done right and last a lifetime. 👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job salvaging what you could. As you know, there's lots of people out there that just put lipstick on the pig.Too bad that corporate greed prevents us from having quality products to buy like we used to.
LMFAO, as soon as I saw you lunge the kabota towards the door I said "OOPS" at the same time as you did in the video, I did the same thing a few years ago, lol. Awesome stuff, your videos are like a time-machine for me. :)
I have not finished watching this but I just saw you take the bottom door panel off I know it's 2 years old musty, but I pray to God you take the door apart and rebuild it because I got a door that is not in nowhere near as bad of shape is yours is and I'm curious as to what it looks like underneath the entire door and how easy it is to fix also
I'm glad you said you sat there for 1/2 hour and look at it to come up with a plan because I do that often and thought I just wasn't good enough or tackle projects over my head but in fact is how (our brain) works to solve problem. ** I am just writing this to maybe help someone who can relate to what I have written and always wondered why or how things just seam out reach or you ever said to yourself I could never learn this or that ** I know its off subject just had learning issues my whole life with no success no matter how many books I read on the subject until I went to college after my enlistment in the USAF back in the 90's. Before the VA would pay for my schooling I needed to go to adult education classes, basically to brush up on the core subject for the best possible success at obtaining a degree and not wasting the tax payers money. Long story short at the learning center they had a psychologist on staff because you half to remember all of us served in the military and some in the gulf War so they needed to make sure what we were going to study was a good choice and that when the psychologist ask if I ever was diagnosed with ADHD, no I said and they determined after months of different tests during my refresher class at the learning center I had ADHD. Now that would explain just about all my issues I had as a boy in school except at the time they called it a trouble maker and class disrupter, lol Wasn't happy to take medication every day but did with life changing effect just wish they know about this 40 years ago but never to late I guess. I've been told I am to hard on myself and to a degree but if you don't push your creative or problem solving areas of the brain that area of the brain will become less apt at solving problems while affecting how well our short term memory retains what you've learned and later processed into long term memory.
I know this is a late comment, but whoever said that trailer could handle the weight of any underground equipment, --trenchers, cable plows, even the small ones that are walk along types, was full of shit. Those things are incredibly heavy.
split the door in 1/2 an hinge it on the side to swing open . if u need to load atv build some ramps an hang them on back side of doors when not in use . the frt ramp seem to work fine an i think it be easier
Yes Sir, I like it! Oh yeah!!! So glad you decided to keep it as a ramp and not permanent wall. The framing looks great! I learned something from you regarding putting the outside frame in place to line everything up THEN do the inside structure! Really Nice work! Didn't you say you were going to put grease zerks on the hinges?
Mustie, Been catching up and I've become a fan. I like the way you share what you are thinking. I found you while looking for Lawn tractor information. watching you make one out of two gave me some of the nitty gritty re; mechanics. would have liked to see you actually taking out a motor as I jusy had to replace the drive belt. Never did this before but I use to work on cars in the alley in chicago when I was a kid. Looks like you are in New Hamphsire? Do you have a web page? Thanks. A new fan!
Nice job so far. Are you considering selling it as a cargo trailer or are you going to continue making it your mobile welding/work shop? Also like the idea of the 3 doors think if you welded one shut that would be the one you would need, Murphy's law and all that crap.
why not go with a fancy steel decotive front door the kind with the side panels in door frame n you could then have this on back of your trailer as a new door n put on a scurity screen door so when your camping you dont have ta worry bout small critter climing in and buggin u .......
Im very supprised that you didnt just rip it out from the start and remake the whole door, if you will be using it as a ramp its gotta be really good not to bow. Its gotta be up to the mustie1 A1 standard lol :-D 150% better than original :-D :-D.
Great progess, you're motivating me to get on with my projects, two VW Vans.... Keep it up Mate, your teaching me loads, I'm very grateful.
Your casual humor just kills me at times. You are a funny guy. Thanks for the information and entertainment.
I agree especially when he asks us to hold something or "what do you think" Just a great personality!

Anybody else try lookin around the trailer when he was backin up? Lol, me too....Great job mustie, looks spectacular!
That trailer is already better than it was new out of the factory . Good job 👍
Coming along nicely Darrin. Then comes the fun part of setting it up inside.
Looking good! It's a lot of work, but as you said, it will be the difference between so-so and having done it right. In the end it always pays off to do it right. Thanks for the good update.
thanks for watchin bruce

me too im gettin tired
Saved the best for last.
What an excellent recovery, thanks for sharing!

Mike Doyle I
"he's kicking still a little bit"..............LOL..... nothing like that extra protein. Great Vids....i have learded a lot!!
thanks for watchin
Too bad learning to spell was not among the things you have "learded".
Can't imagine paying someone to do this. But that is how we either save a bundle or make our living. NICE WORK!
Man, they really hammered that trailer. That's exactly why you use a car trailer for hauling cars and a plant trailer for hauling plant, like mini diggers...
Rebuilt and better than new now !!
Nice job brother
thanks doug
That's pretty smart the way you built it standing up like that
You did the right decision, tear the old crap off and start over. Now you have a sturdy ramp !
Mustie i have set a number of things on fire welding cuting and grinding including myself. i was going to suggest you consider some diamond plate on the floor so you don't roast your investment. so true
Looks sweet Darrin , Good work man !
thanks
Love your energy and ability! I like the way you reason through each step of your project. Great work bro.
thanks for watchin

Good job. The trailer will come alive :) . Greetings from Belgium.
I find myself just rewatching old videos lol until you put a new one out, really enjoy your content
Looking good!
I have that Kubota's brother. Tough little tractors. Wish mine had the loader though! Hard to find large pieces like that for them now.
Looks Sweet Mustie!
Worth every second of repair time now to do it up right instead of spending a life time wishing you had done it later.
been there before
Well done Mate!!☺
thanks
I wonder if you put sheets of foam insulation between the studs if it would help keep it cooler while you work in it?
man you do nice work.... excellent!

Trailer parts companies sell new hinges and you could have added an extra hinge to suport the ramp on that end
Great video mate... from England
you will wish you did not sell the Kubota tractor....great job on the trailer...
I'm glad you said you sat there for 1/2 hour and look at it to come up with a plan because I do that often and thought I just wasn't good enough or tackle projects over my head but in fact is how (our brain) works to solve problem.

I do really like the paddy wagon look. Hmm, maybe sheath it in plexiglass or acrylic? :)
I don't think you would want people who have no business knowing what you are carrying..
That Kubota would be sweet on my farm. Too bad you are living on different continent :). Best of luck.
perfect repair ......brute force and intelligence..!!!
Yes sir, made by a pro. that's what sells. lol Great work my friend, Cheers The Dizz
thanks man
udizzy!!
Wow did they use some thin metal on that rear edge with the hinge area is.
Great job rebuilding the door
thanks
Great work. As much as you come across stuff, having that toughened up ramp would be a plus. Now on to finding bulldozers. :-)
compact bulldozers
Great idea would be some built in Farnicastaffs that retract into the door......just in case you need em later..!!
A come along to an anchor helps move things small amouts at a time
split the door in 1/2 an hinge it on the side to swing open . if u need to load atv build some ramps an hang them on back side of doors when not in use . the frt ramp seem to work fine an i think it be easier
You could just install a lockable hatch to poke long things through when you need to and seal up the door for strength.
I bought 1/2 tubular foam weather strip on Amazon that sealed up my drop real well
Yes Sir, I like it! Oh yeah!!! So glad you decided to keep it as a ramp and not permanent wall. The framing looks great! l may
pushin on that tailgate with the kubota seems like something Jeff Bradshaw (elderlyiron) would try.
So much fun to be had there..
Nice fabricating
Beautiful work!
thanks
Great job so far!
Cool Beans. I like it.
That is awesome what you do with the door must be one good job..
Beating on that back chassis rail freed up the hinges a treat as well, didn't it? :P
Darn, I thought the trailer was going to be the base for my new tiny home in New England.
How much for the kubota I need a small beater tractor to clean out under the barn and that would fit
How does it lower? I have a similar ramp, door on a shed I built I need to open and lower.

no keeping it as a shop but if it does not pan out and it gets sold then it will need to be functional
Nice. It will be better than if it was bough new with those improvements.
Well on the way and dumping the bent bits was the right solution
it's starting to look good
M1- You're the man...
The quality of these run of the mill trailers sure is lacking compared to the hinge I used to have on my old featherlite.
lots of work but worth it.
nice work and video.....
Loved it when you took in that mosquito protein!! Watching in 2021 Corona pandemic
You could split a grain of rice with those forks. Finesse.
Lookin good
hey man good work, i am going to make one for myself, what size HRS is the door made of?
it looks like 1 1/2"
why not go with a fancy steel decotive front door the kind with the side panels in door frame n you could then have this on back of your trailer as a new door n put on a scurity screen door so when your camping you dont have ta worry bout small critter climing in and buggin u .......
Have a similar job to do. What would the pricing be of such a job?
Nice job
Oh and when you were using the kaboda forks to straighten the framing, I was behind you with the big sledge (and laughing a little - sorry).
oh it was you
very cool i thought you were going to do it out of wood lol its to late i need to go to bed lol
Nice wor,k but i would replace part of frame where hinges are, rather than beating it to submission :P
another great better-than-it-was video
just me but I would have skinned it, straightened everything, reinforce it a bit more(with plate), then reassemble with new plywood but a bit thicker.
I like your sign on the tree - beware of dog :) those old cuties :)
,, love to see the shakedown ,
Very nice it will be worth the work . Man im way behind on your vids
keep up the good work
how is the trailer is cooming
Where do you buy your steel? Haverhill Salvage?
yes, they have allot in stock or they will have it the next day.
whatever happened to this trailer?? sold it??
I think it would of been Easter to build a new gate and part that old out time is money
love your garden must be english
Im very supprised that you didnt just rip it out from the start and remake the whole door, if you will be using it as a ramp its gotta be really good not to bow.
Its gotta be up to the mustie1 A1 standard lol :-D 150% better than original :-D :-D.
l think it should be stronger then factory
maybe a set of double doors?
I wish u where my neighbor😂
Is this a united expressline trailer?
My theory is fix it right or don't fix it at all.i'm kind of particular.😇😊😎
Lol somehow I knew you wouldn't half ass it!
im more of a full ass man
+Mustie1 there's a Seinfeld episode in there somewhere 😉
