I appreciate the insane amount of different kitbash tactics you used: 3D Print, regular cutting and glueing plastic kitbash, greenstuff, bluestuff molds! insane!
Thanks RB. I did experiment a bit with those faces. First a very yellowy brown airbrush. Then a pretty burgundy red wash. The combo turned into a pretty nice skin tone. I then highlighted but also added some green to the botom halfs of the faces and stuff like that. All good fun.
The kitbashed minis look very cool, the new paint job adds a lot of interest to them too; as every the filming, editing, and narration are clean, clear and elegant.
While in the army the ideal way of doing things was carrying your backpack to where you wanted to fight and then stashing them somewhere and not actually wearing them while running and shooting if you could avoid it
sure modern armies and modern backpacks, these backpacks though seem to be based on tornisters, a type of backpack historically worn into combat and not dumped.
Wow the amount of personality you got into each head was inspiring , nicely done… I need to do a study of just painting faces I think after watching this
I had a similar experiance to this video, I fell in love with 40k eldar after finding the options for 3rd party heads (I like the look of more "alien" eldar with bland faced helmets)
Hey Alex, I know I comment on a lot of your videos so I’ve definitely mentioned it before but once again just an incredible video. I actually just recently ran into a similar issue with some Frostgrave minis and this really helps a lot in figuring out kitbashing with a 3D printer on hand. All your videos experimenting with new methods to enjoy the hobby are such a delight because it’s so fun watching you and then trying out all the new stuff you do.
I would encourage even more comments :) It's great to hear what you guys out there think and it does help spread the videos to more folk out there. I enjoyed this mixed type of kitbash, "real" bits, 3d printing, all the stuff :)
Alex, it was wonderful spending time in discord with you while you were working on these bases. I was like "hey, that's the one he was working on, that's the one he dropped". These came out phenomenal.
If I may share a small tip: U can use Isopropyl alcohol to remove paint, it works really fast and does not damage the plastic at all. Its also very cheap.
On the question of why supply's are not sculpted on minis, its for the same reason you never see pictures (or paintings) of solders fighting with a full rucksacks. They are heavy and cumbersome to fight in and discarded at the first possible moment. Battles are also not random encounters and usually a force would have enough notice before a fight to set up at least a rudimentary staging area/camp. Leaving your freshly acquired crate of tomatoes on the front of your tank as you ride into battle is a sure fire way to get said tomatoes prematurely turned into sauce.
But sauce is such a good thing that can accompany so many different type of meals :) I know what you mean JT, but I just like backpacks, and they are in a way less strange than holy handgranade wielding crossbows.
Those kitbashes look sooo much better than the original GW sculpts! They have more character and actually look like they are doing what they were designed to do….snipe at high value targets! Can’t wait to see the painting video!
The "Holy Hand Grenade" you mentioned is a soul crystal according to the lore. Also, great video! It's got me debating about fully kitbashing my 2000 pt Stormcasts, even though they're mostly painted already.
Do a spy a couple of cans from North Brewing Co.? Great choice if so. You'll have to check out their taproom if ever in Leeds. Excellent vid as usual, minis look fantastic
Recently realized that I really like to magnetize things. Not painting or building, just magnetizing to get a best and most possible options. Almost like kitbashing on the fly 😄
I love the final product. They look like the Stormcast version of the Filthy Thirteen or the Dirty Dozen which is a Black Library series I wish existed. I'm diving into the Horus Heresy at the moment which involves a lot of kitbashing, so this video was great inspiration and reminded me I have a friend with a 3d printer..
@@52Miniatures I'm starting off simple with phalanx warders - I need axes, hammers, and giant kite shields. And I need to decide which bodies and heads to use. I'm sure there are stl's for those. If I can find space marine bodies with tabards then I've also got my Templar Brethren done without having to sculpt them out of greenstuff. Forge World is prohibitively expensive and absolute shit - it's been two weeks since I ordered my special characters, I can't get them to pick up the phone or answer my emails. Players are into Horus Heresy because of the novels, so everything is way more hobby-focused. Games are recreations of battles/campaigns from the story and not about min/max-ing to create the most efficient army possible. People usually create a company within their faction with a backstory and customize their units. Some folks heavily customize them. I'm really excited. sorry for the wall of text.
@@NapGod It does sounds awfully cool. And soon like a nice hobby platform. I'm intrigued by the new plastic beaky marines and will probably get me some of them to paint just for fun.
curing uv resin is a reaction that makes a lot of heat, so that probably destroyed your mold. With Milliput or greenstuff the bluestuff molds keep their edge much longer, but takes a lot longer for each part.
I do a lot of kitbashing too: to me it's mainly to fight the new monopose trend GW seems to be pushing, or just to make some fun, unorthodox combinations of equipment and character (helps if your entire faction isn't the same species in lore). Some of the kitbashing I've done has been purely to avoid having literally 2-3 copies of the same model, assembled the same way, because monopose model kits are just that limiting. Having a 3D printer would probably really broaden my horizons there, but sadly 6 hour print runs are not a good fit for working from home in a tiny apartment.
Great video as always Alex. I've been making a Chaos space marines army myself and this is a huge inspiration to try some bits and conversions that I wouldn't have otherwise considered. who says my imaginary space men need to look like everyone elses?
3:35 Because, generally, fighting with your stuff on you is very difficult and tiring, this is why in medieval times armies had large caravans hauling their stuff, like big battlefield weapons, supplies, etc. And soldiers who carried their stuff left it in the camp. If your models have backpacks on it probably means your army is the type of warriors who do not stay in one place, and always keep on the move, which is fine. Yours truly, history buff.
The moment I heard the question, I scrolled down to see if someone else had made a post to answer it before I said anything. And, like expected, here it is!
Another great video. As always, you bring very unique style and I appreciate it! And Im glad you mention other companies even when they dont pay you, because everyone mentions GW and they dont pay anyone 😀
Part of the reason the mold loses detail on multiple casts is the UV Resin heats up when it cures. If you leave the mold for a while after to let it cool back down before you removed the piece the blue stuff will cool back off and you'll have a better chance of making multiple copies from the same mold.
@@52Miniatures Sure thing. Technically 2 part epoxies are also exothermic, but they take hours to cure so are much less likely to damage the mold, but they're a lot stiffer so it's harder to get all the details (at least with blue stuff)
Love the minis, they look awesome, the only thing that really really bothers me is that the shields doesn't have the hold thingy, some leather straps ( I think is the correct word, English is not even my second language so..) and a metal bar to hold the shield with your hand. The rest, awesome.
Almost all Stormcast miniatures designed to hold a shield have the "shield holding bit" on the arm and not the sheild. So that one can angle the shield in different ways. And so we designed the shield in the same manner.
You know that if you soak your mixed greenstuff in hot water, just like the blue stuff, the bluestuff mold takes the greenstuff better and will mold more detail and making it easier to make your own pieces.
Personally I love kit bashing I recently got the warlord games orcs and was not a fan so I kit-bashed them with pieces from my bits box and now I have an army of orcs I love
They don't have back packs for the same reason knights or the Japanese didn't wear backpacks. They left them back at the warcamp when they marched off to the battle field.
Well, this was really interesting, naturally, having a 3D printer, you could've printed all the shoulder pads in one single shot. Furthermore these ones could remain in the memory, allowing infinite customizations.👍
Now those are the coolest stormcast bowmen I've seen bar none. The original models take stormcast to it's fat and boring furthest conclusion, if there are worse sculpts then I don't want reminding. Many have settled for just gluing the bows back on straight and shrugged. These though suit the reproportioned troops and take them two stages on. Owlcast auxilia troops is the look I get, splinted limb armour and helmets off to aim, they really are trying to hit what they're aiming at Really cool, really well imagined, really well executed. @@52Miniatures Ah yes Alex, thanks for the reply..the majority of my miniatures are resin--(I don't buy plastic stuff from GW--am I allowed to write that here? Of course I'm amenable to buying Games Workshop plastic if the company starts selling miniatures of WWI aviators or 20th century Grand Prix drivers) Most of the time I use dish soap, warm water and an old soft bristle tooth brush to clean off paint. Given my aversion to chemistry-- I hated my high school Chemistry course which was the last time I studied anything to do with periodic charts and molecules, I'm quite ignorant about reactions and properties of liquids and solids or gasses for that matter ..but now that you mention it I suppose a lot of stripping fluids and solvents would be too strong for fine cast resin. :( PS: I'll send you a link to some MT-ID-WY-OR et all scenery pictures in a DM on Patreon next week after I complete this 2,100 mile (3,500 km) road trip.
It really is a tragedy GW does so little to support the kitbashing community. So many possibilities limited by available selections. Good thing 3D printing came around to fill that niche, and now I can make my Samuraicast.
Love your videos man! First time I learned you are in Sweden, I am told I have Swedish blood but Finland and Denmark were as close as I got. You are so meticulous I wonder what you do for a day job? Engineer, programmer, scientist?
They look really great! I also don't like the crossbow guys too much. The sculpts don't do it for me, so seeing those reimagined was awesome. Fun fact though, they're not crossbows. They're magical grenade-launchers! The tip of the crossbow is filled with liquid dragonfire, so they're basically shooting medieval Molotov cocktails.
You should post a warning before submerging painted miniatures into bio strip. I’ll have nightmares for weeks after seeing that. Great video, as always.
I remember watching a video where a guy took a stormcast eternal and a spacemarine and kitbashed together to make a thunder warrior I can't find it though I think it was deleted can someone help me out I cant even remember the channel name

These minis are beautifulll
Thank you Louie!
It really is a tragedy GW does so little to support the kitbashing community. So many possibilities limited by available selections. Good thing 3D printing came around to fill that niche, and now I can make my Samuraicast.
Samuraicast sounds like fun!
Love your videos man! First time I learned you are in Sweden, I am told I have Swedish blood but Finland and Denmark were as close as I got. You are so meticulous I wonder what you do for a day job? Engineer, programmer, scientist?
I'm afraid I'm quite the confused photographer to be honest. I don't know where the meticulous bit comes from 😂
nice kitbash ;)
COOOOOOL !
Holy grenade! I knew it :)
You should post a warning before submerging painted miniatures into bio strip. I’ll have nightmares for weeks after seeing that.
Great video, as always.
Chock value! right? :) 6 minis closer to a new army!
I remember watching a video where a guy took a stormcast eternal and a spacemarine and kitbashed together to make a thunder warrior I can't find it though I think it was deleted can someone help me out I cant even remember the channel name
Lovely kitbashes (is it sculpt bashing when you start to sculpt new bits yourself?) - great paint job too - looking forward to the "painting of" video
Bashing in the box? I dunno... Painting vid will be out next week :)
Spotted the Ilford paper, do you do film photography as well? :)
also loving the look of these squads!
I used to more. Sometimes I still shoot analog but then I end up scanning the negativs. It was a long time ago I spent time in a darkroom.
@@52Miniatures very cool! I don't have access to a darkroom but I started shooting 35mm on an old kodak i repaired and sending it off for development.
@@eastoforion Developing film I consider rather dull and a little stressful. But working on prints is great fun.
