This was a good video. I did not know how the DSK worked. I thought I did, but I had completely overlooked those 3 buttons on the right side of the virtual switcher on the ATEM Software Control. This was exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Hey there! Thank you for the very informative tutorial. I'm new to the ATEM switcher world, within the last 7 months. The manual does not give a lot of information, or details, for newbies to fully understand how to use the software and Advanced panel. I have searched several RUclips video tutorials. I really like this type of tutorial because of the following: The instructor spoke clearly and did not throw in a bunch of engineering terminology (I'm a visual artist, not an engineer), you showed a close up of the ATEM software and the upstream/downstream keys together, so I could see everything you were doing clearly. I really appreciated that, because other videos would show something similar, but the software would be much further away to see what they were doing. I subscribed and will be watching more of your videos. Thanks again!

I've been playing a lot with upstream keys, but never understood how it actually worked... Just leaned myself the order on clicking.... Years later someone explained it to me... 🙂

Nice video, Travis! That bit about exporting premultiplied graphics directly from Photoshop is a fabulous time saver.
Question: Do you know of a process for exporting a slew of .TGAs with transparency? I'm actually not having any success using PS in all the obvious ways, and was hoping the ATEM plug-in might be the basis for the ultimate solution to my problem. TIA!

I would like to know if I can upstream & downstream at the same time. I'd like to display my logo (constant) and at the same display lower thirds btw different cam views. I'm using a black magic atem mini pro ( 1:upstream, 1:downstream, 1: media player) keys. Would you do a demo how to do up & down keys at the same time.

You can have the upstream key as a constant. You can leave the upstream key on and just change the background by checking the key button.

Yes! So important to know, especially if your switcher does not have enough down stream keys. You can still get the job done, just use an upstream key and make sure not to transition it while live.

Hey there, good video. Sorry if I missed this - does the ATEM software automatically install a Photoshop plugin? Do you have to add it manually so that it shows up in the export?
What are the dimensions of the graphics that the atem switcher is expecting? Have yet to see this published anywhere.
I take it these would be full frame graphics. You can't take a small sized graphic and position it around the screen as you do in final cut Pro, correct? How do I ensure the correct placement of a logo in that downstream key?

Great video, topic very well explained. I work for a small charity and we are thinking of investing in a started webinar suite. We are seeing a lot of videos about ATEM Mini Pro ISO. We would to do live webinars, events and training. We have adapted MS Teams system but see limitations for live events.
We don't have and skills in this area but are willing to learn. Could you give any advice on what equipment we might strat with.
is it somehow possible to get a second Upstream key? Or at least the same options (linear key and flying key) on the downstream key? I'm experimenting for hours now... i want: 1) Background (simple Image) 2) video input (powerpoint but dwonsized and repositioned) 3) video input (person infront of a greenscreen)

Hello, I want ask..Why black color at blackmagic atem is missing and becomes transparent
how do you connect the atem to the computer to remote it with the software, via network or via usb?
I have problems if I control it via Usb C and I also take the video stream as a webcam, the Atem jumps as if it had no synchronisms.
If, on the other hand, I only use Atem without the software, or if I control it via the networ, I have no problems. Thanks.

I don't see the export setting in the latest version of Photoshop. I'm assuming Adobe doesn't support that export feature anymore.
Hi I want to know how to make a macro in atem one me black magic switcher.
You said there is only one media player, but you can load multiple files onto that media player, correct? Like if I had 4 presenters who all had their own animated gif to display upon walkon, how would I go about cycling through those gifs? Is there a shortcut on the controller or would I have to manually load each file from the software?

The Atem option was not available in my export menu on Photoshop, reinstalling ATEM software now to see if that fixes it.

When I tried to export a png file through "Export" inside Photoshop, I cannot find Atem Switcher Media Pool option. How can I set this as an option to export to? Many thanks!

We produce live streams of high school sports. We used to have a Tricaster Mini (until it died) and it was easy to update a score while we recording due to the built-in software. It looks like the ATEM software here does not allow that. I've found a way to update a graphic using Preview (of all apps) but it still requires a LOT more steps than the Tricaster software did. What is the best practices workflow to do this with the ATEM software? There's got to be a simpler way to do this. Bare in mind, this is for high school students to operate, not professionals.
We use the ATEM in conjunction with OBS on a Mac. USB-C to our Mac from ATEM, then use OBS to create any graphic we want on the fly then trigger the graphic with a keystroke in OBS. ATEM alone is not designed for the level of sophistication you described.

How can I configure a key, either up or down, to use an external input as the video source? We have side third graphics during our presentations where the graphic middle and right is transparent but the graphic on the left is not keying correctly. Should I use up or down?
Any input can be used as a source for a key. You should key using upstream as downstream is only a luma key.
@@rippleguys so then, since the graphic ends up not keying correctly, is the issue with the graphic itself?
You asked for feedback. I waited 8:19 before I got to what I wanted; the difference between upstream and downstream key. And I still don't understand. Maybe offer basic tutorials for noobs like me? Maybe one without jargon like "bug", "lower third". What is a Luma? What's a Chroma? What's a "key"? HTH.
I watched the whole thing and never heard a definition of upstream vs. downstream key. Still confused.

Thanks, really helpful and good to know. The photoshop plugin was not showing up in my case. Neither when the item was connected through USB C port to my MacBook or via LAN. So I searched for that problem and I found out that it is probably an Adobe or Atem fault, which can be manually solved quite easy, follow this tutorial (you have to paste the plugin from Atem in the right plugin folder) ruclips.net/video/9Xy7vQQ4bPk/видео.html
I have watched your vid 20 times and still dont understand how to use downstream key
As I refuse to pay the Adobe subscription tax, I don't use PS. Instead I use Pixelmator, which can save PNG with transparency. It would be grate if tutorials didn't just focus on PS users. Just sayin'...
I understand, but that's what we use, and we have not tested the workflow in Pixelmator
I completely agree! A *_LOT_* of people have understandably turned their back on Adobe! I, too, would never use Photoshop, but rather am using Affinity Photo. So yeah, it would've been nice to hear what options those THOUSANDS or users have i.e. what they need to do to get things working correctly. Rather shortsighted IMHO!
@@andiemoepse1089 Sorry to say, that a quick bit of checking in the BM ATEM manual, it just says...
"Installing the ATEM software on your computer also installs a Photoshop plug-in that lets you upload Photoshop graphics direct to the ATEM Mini’s media pool."
So I don't think this will work with Affinity, or Pixelmator. There are a few PS plugins that work with A Photo, but I don't think this is one of them. Maybe contact BlackMagic to see if they can implement this? This is nothing really to do with Ripple!
Note that Blackmagic say in their manual, a few lines later...
"This means you can accept graphics from designers in the application that 100% of the world’s designers use, Adobe Photoshop!"
Yes. That 100% is no longer as true as it was. Especially as the ATEM mini is going to appeal to the kind of users, who are probably on a limited budget, and are now more likely than ever to be leaving Photoshop behind.
Very unfortunate that this isn't for THE PRO since I'm much more interested in understanding how the streaming aspect of the ATEM works and what my options are for multi-streams for example, and how to set those up. Too bad. No sale here I guess…
We hear ya. They are all on backorder, in some cases up to a month now. If you hear of a reseller that has them in stock let us know.
This obtuse 1976 terminology is just ludicrous in 2023.
