I studied classical piano at a conservatory in my teenage years. Then some highschool friends invited me to form a band in 2007 and introduced me to Basket Case in one of our rehearsals. I inmediatly recognized the chord progression and on our second playthrough I waited for the bridge part with no vocals and then began jamming Canon "in E" (the key we were playing the song in) w/ variations on my keyboard everyone laughed so hard lol and the solo became a standard in our version of basket case in gigs - although I ended up switching instruments to a guitar for that song and a few others so it then became a guitar solo.

Good playing, but everything sounds like jamming around over the Canon Rock arrangement. If you wanna do an actual Basket Case solo it has two options, one is a melodic solo like Pulling Teeth, or maybe something newer like Jesus of Suburbia or Dirty Rotten Bastards. The other option is a Chuck Berry inspired solo with bending and double stops. Billie Joe used that a lot live, and for the first two records, but after that had a break from that style until it was used on some of the songs of American Idiot and later on the Uno-Dos-Tre records
