Ep9 Land Cruiser stuck in the Khowarib riverbed - Jimny owners will love this

  • It could only have been a Patrol driver that made sure to capture what is probably one of the rarest scenes you'll find in Namibia. It's the fully loaded 1.5 ton Jimny giving a hand to the 3.5 ton Land Cruiser towing a 1.5 ton off-road caravan (both fully loaded so perhaps add some more weight). Using a 12,000 kg Kinetic Snatch Rope, we had to accurately execute the snatch angle to ensure safety first.
All that was needed was a little help to get those rear 33" tyres out of the soft sand. Too much torque and you'll dig yourself down to your chassis and then the day would've been extremely long.
In the Cruiser's defence, leading the convoy means protecting the rest from bad sections of the trail :-)
It sure was an eventful day in Khowarib and is definitely one of the most scenic 4wd-trails we've done.
Day 17 we stayed at Olifantsrus in Etosha and Day 18,19 in Halali.
Next, we were on our way to De Hoop in the Richtersveld. A very special place for the family.

With he exception of VanZyls & Khowarib, I covered similar ground on a trip in 1997, alone in a King Cab Hilux, All my previous trips there had been in a car which eliminated Kaokoland as a destination. My avatar is a pic I took at Red Drum at that time. Many thanks for capturing the grandeur of the scenery. Visiting Namibia for the first time in 1985 blew my mind. Liked & Subscribed from Perth.

Stunning video! I must say, I also enjoyed the Khowarib immensely. We did this part of the trip backwards in 2017, from Okaukeujo through Olifantshoek, then the Khowarib and from there to Palmwag. It was my favourite day of our whole trip! But we were luckier with the road than you were. No corrugations to speak of.

Thanks. There was a section, just before the LC got stuck, that was so bad that the video was way too shaky to add in the video. We will definitely return for a slower drive without towing.

I really enjoyed the videos and know Namibia quite well although the routes you have driven seems absolutely worth another trip. Thank you. I also saw the two videos where you have discussed the Suzuki and the Patrol. Did you also do a similar video on the Cruiser?

Hi Ashley. Thanks for subscribing. The editing is new to us and we're improving as we move forward. Unfortunately, we had poor sound quality this trip. We're upgrading gear and will give lots more attention to audio as this was one thing we also picked up. We love the feedback and always willing to listen and learn. Soon we'll understand the software much better and most importantly, we'll bring authentic stories of trips from the beautiful South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana perhaps even Angola. Please continue to share your viewing experience, we'd love to get it right. Thanks and keep safe.
