We review Tom's Suzuki Jimny... the first of hopefully many. Tom is 72 and still rocks the 4x4 tracks. Check out all his upgrades and accessories.

Why don't you just pressurise manually the watertank...For communication you can use inreach. I would like to see the new Jimmy extended version in a year or so.

Thanks for that. A well thought out storage area. I do have two quesions: firstly, at one point Tom mentions that he didn't really fit in the Jimny. Did he do something to correct that?
Secondly, I would love to know what water pump he uses, and whether or not it has given him any problems. I have been having lots of issues with the pump I have.

Hi Peter tx for asking, maybe more a mental thing. In my days I drove Ford V8,s, BMW's, Merc and on the bakkie side a Navara, Honda SUV and a few more but never a Jimny. I fact I trade a very old Jimny in the early 2000's on one of my BMW's and took it home which was about an 8 kilo drive and sold it as is from where I parked it. I.e. never had any intention with it. Then when I retired in 2016 the overland/camping bug came along and that is where we browsed for a good 4x4 vehicle alas my wife had a crush on the Jimny and for me it was a no-no-fit however after checking many reviews and about 2 months of test driving - to please her - I found myself to fit snugly behind the controls. It is about like in a larger vehicle you climb in but with the Jimny you actually put it on like a t-shirt - lekker styf en warm. Another thing to mention is that in all my 45 years of married life my wife always had a back pain issue no matter what we drove - even a Merc SLK however not to boast on the latter she never complained in the Jimny since we bought it in 2017.
Secondly it is a Pentair Shurflo 12VDC 4.5 AMPS MAX, Switch off pressure ; 20 PSI water pump. Must say that it is a fairly new installation - 2 weekend camps - no problems to date but still early days.

@@tomthomas6093 Morning Tom, thanks for the excellent vid.
Just a quick question - would it not be better to have a big/extra fuel tank and rather carry extra water in containers?
      God bless,
      Dave

Hi Dave, I do have a 55lt slanted water tank mounted inside my car at the back of the drawer system i.e. behind the seats which also helps to keep the centre of gravity low. Yes a long range fuel tank, I would say is a must and will be my next investment, not sure when but to answer your question on the jerry cans, for now I'm using 1 for fuel and the 2nd for shower water and only fills it up if my next destination is without fuel and/or water to save weight. Why a jerry can for the shower? There is no space for a gas geyser so what happens is when I light my fire I place this shower jerry can close or in the fire until the water is shower-hot. My water system is designed with shut-off valves to work 2 ways using the same water pump - 1 for the kitchen and the second for the shower i.e. having a 2nd water inlet that i dump into the shower jerry for a pleasant hot shower.
Have a great Easter and stay safe.
