  • After a stargazing night at Camp Syncro and hot showers, we head to Marble Camp on the Khumib River to celebrate Hugh’s birthday. Happy Birthday! It’s always great to celebrate life with family. We planned a route to see the famous drums but after the blue drum we decided to turn around and do the Joubert’s Pass to Marble Campsite. Really nice drive and also a bit challenging in some parts.
The next day we drove to Puros only to be disappointed by the available camp spots. We were thinking about a wild camp but did not know the area that well. Next time we'll ask for some recommendations because it sure looks nice in some parts of Puros.
So we had 2 nights at Ongongo which worked out really well because we had some cleaning and maintenance to do.
Next, Etosha National Park for 3 days.

Great videos of Namibia!!! What are the fuel statistics for that petrol nissan? How much does it use in these areas? How much does it carry? Interest comes from a V6 Fortuner owner who is planning to go and play in the sand!!!

At the time of the trip I was carrying 160lt of fuel in Jerry Cans + 130lt of onboard fuel. I think I averaged about 30lt/100km over the entire trip and the Land Cruiser (diesel) surprisingly wasn't that much better.

I love your approach to filming and overall approach to overlanding, looks very well planned and relaxed. Thanks a mill for the efforts in providing us with the tag-along with your trip. How did the kids cope with the long hours in the vehicles?

Thanks, much appreciated. It was hard to travel with the kids when they were 2-3 years old. Over the years they got use to travel and enjoy the expeditions. Involving them in our trip activities like starting the fire, braai, spotting a line in 4wd-trails etc. works wonders.

Hi Dirk. We actually found that the kids hardly needed any in-car entertainment to keep them happy. By involving them in the journey and swopping cousins between cars we found that they kept themselves busy for hours. What was very telling was the many nights after our very difficult Ugab river trip where we got stuck many times and particularly the Van Zyl's descent, the kids actually reenacted the events using our vehicles as their stage. The got on the radios and took out the tools and pretended they were doing repairs and recoveries. It was very seldom that any tablet or cellphone was needed to keep them entertained.

@@hughkirby2416 Thanks for the replies Guys, suppose involvement of the youngsters play a big role in the overall success of the tour. When we go on a trip the laaiti don't see much screen time, create opportunities like you to keep the mind and body occupied.
