Matt, I am an engineer working in a Studio. love to see your work and try to guess how your team executes the shot.Your Turn table project completely blew me away. Your work inspires me.

Great video. One question: How would you attach plexi walls to a wooden base. Im plannimg to convert a glass top coffee into a shadow box coffee table. The walls of the shadow box would be clear plexi. The base would be mdf or plywood and the top of the walls would connect to the wood under side of the table. Thanks for your time and any suggestions you may have.
Experimental physicist here :) Applying "a solvent" doesn't mean much -- anything can be a solvent when something's dissolved in it. You mean you need a liquid a) in which plexiglass is highly soluble and b) that evaporates fairly quickly. I've used simple chloroalcanes to do this -- chloroform is standard, but dichloromethane is less hazardous. Better yet, because none of these molecules are very friendly, acetone (like in nail polish remover) -- but I suppose it would take a longer time to bond. Also, train on scrap pieces before doing the real deal! Any dripping and the optical quality of your surfaces will be ruined... !
Yeah I was wondering how they skimmed over such a basic key ingredient... That part of the tutorial sounds preposterous when you know how unspecific the word "solvent" is.
Further pro tips from the signage industry. -When cutting plastic with a jig saw, cut on top of a nice, thick piece of extruded foam insulation. - turn any blade oscillation the jig saw may have off; be sure that the blade is going straight up and down.
Maarten van Westen that is a good idea. Unfortunately in the “from home” version of the garage learning things aren’t that structured as we’re doing what we can, but we’ll try!
LOVE the video content! Thank you for making these. As someone with hearing issues though, the audio quality somewhat throws off my equilibrium since it is so bassy and makes it somewhat hard to ear clearly. I'm not worried though, it'll get better with time.
@@TheGarageLearning No worries and I TOTALLY understand. I'm beyond grateful you all even are making these videos so please don't let my comment sounds as if I am hating or anything. Love all that you're doing and I can still make it through. Just throws me off a bit is all. :D
Question! Hi guys amazing work, I love this channel! Just wondering: 1) why don´t you use a laser cutter machine with the acrylics? Maybe it will be more accurate to make holes and cuts. 2) What software to 3D design do you use? is there Google Sketchup? Have an excellent day!
frutosmarinos sometimes we do us laser cutter but not great for thicker than .25” and we’re often using .5-1” plexi. Plus, we don’t own one yet. We use SketchUp and Maya for 3D
"It's pretty bad for you, so don't get it on you." He the proceeds to apply it with no gloves on. I get that with tons of experience, you can apply it and rarely spill, but we want you on this planet for as long as possible! Liquid cancer is what I call acrylic bonding solvent. I always apply with medium thickness nitrile gloves on. It's also really bad for the atmosphere, so cap your supply container as soon as you are done using it. Surprised it's still legal in California, when something far less harmless, like Denatured Alcohol, is banned.
Amr El Saadany Photography a few ways. Attach the container to the shaft is an aluminum block drilled out with a tapped whole for a set screw. Or depending on the forces, a drill a while in the plexi itself and drill and tap a set screw in the plexi
I appreciate how you quickly covered so many basics of working with plexiglass. Thank you!
I am building a large plexiglass terrarium for my tarantulas. This video really gave me the insight I needed before taking on my project. Thanks!

Wow wonderful. How you covered all plexiglass materials and tools covered in this video. ❤

so useful and so satisfying to watch! Thank you so much, please make more vids like these!
simply love ur work... the way you make this is garage is the best part .. even I'm a geek making my regs (sometimes) in home...
Thank you so much 😀
What chemical and what sandpaper grit.
Also what would you recommend for polishing?
2:53 - you can get kickback, when detail is wider than longer. It can stuck between the blade and the fence. I've experienced this situation.
Great instructional video. Well done, and thank you.
I like your plexy applications.
I like Plexy in Space
You guys are awesome! Thank you for sharing your cool world with us!
Our pleasure!
Haha I just have to say I love the sentence in the intro: “Anyway, I’m so much smarter, and you will too.” 😀
Where is a good place to purchase plexiglass sheets and solvent ?

This was waayyyy cool. I was think of making some diecast cases. The video helped !
What is the solvent called that you use to adhere together?

Forgive my ignorance but what is a common “solvent” i can get off the shelf? I guess I’m asking what do you prefer most?

What is the solvent used?

Sorry about that. Matt had some serious mic issues. The real videos will obviously be in a audio controlled studio.

This is dope .. thank you 😊
No problem 😊
How do you attach this container to a stepper’s shaft? Thanks 😊

I like using a heat ribbon to bend plex.
"And now, I'm so much smarter, and so will you!" Exactly my kind of humor. Unfortunately.
If you close your eyes and listen, Jeff Goldblum explains to you how to drill plexiglass.
someone should deepfake that
I was thinking Napoleons brother, Kip Dynamite.
Can you make a custom one for me?
everyone take a shot every time he says water, gummy, or mess
Very useful video, but the audio was really muffled in places and I struggled to understand what you were saying at those points.
what kind of solvent?!?!?

audio is bad
Sorry about that. Matt ran into some serious Mic problems.
first
The audio was unbearable :( sorry 😐
Sorry about that. We ran into serious audio problems, Will be fixed for future videos
The audio of the video 🤦♂️
apologies
