The whole issue is language. I’m living in Latin America and you need to know Spanish. I always consider the difficulty of the language for me to learn when I consider where to live. Unless English is common, you have to know the language. Videos rarely mention this.
Not an "issue" anymore. All you need today is a hand-held translator to speak in real time to anyone in your choice of 160 languages. You can get a good one for about 60 USD. 😄

Taiwan might not be a great fit for those accustomed to the North American lifestyle. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries on Earth. Due to its mountainous terrain 90% of its population is concentrated in a narrow strip in the west between Taipei and Kaohsiung. The towns/cities are very densely populated with little elbow room. The western strip is also heavily industrialized with resulting air pollution, partly domestic and partly of China's doing, due to westerly winds. It's certainly worth visiting (I was there for three weeks) but not sure about living long-term.
Africa is a cheap place to live in. Also, South America and part of Asia seem affordable. The only place you won't feel comfortable is Europe. Cost of living here is unreal.

Latvia & Georgia are both too close to Russia, and too vulnerable to be taken back by them, especially if Trump gets elected. Also, Taiwan is too vulnerable to being taken back by China, which again if Trump gets elected could happen. Cambodia is still too early to predict the stability of their country. Bosnia is too vulnerable to religious conflict between Muslims and Christians. There are issues already. Sri Lanka has too many issues with political unrest and terrorism. Ecuador used to be a great option but the rise in drug gang trade/violence and political instability makes it not a good option. Tanzania is another place with issues with terrorism and safety. All in all, I would consider none of them, particularly if I were looking to retire there.

I’d prefer to retire in a small American town with a cheap house on acres, and just visit other countries.
That’s our plan. I lived overseas in different countries as an adult and couldn’t wait for the day I came back to America. I am Spanish citizen and my son lives in Madrid. I go to visit him yearly but would not live there for anything. As I’ve aged I’ve realized I don’t have patience to deal with government bureaucracy, bad customer service, Socialism, government corruption, dirty streets with grafiti everywhere, a smoking society that has no issue throwing their cigarette butts on the streets. The streets are littered with it and the beaches as well. The healthcare quality that everyone raves about is not all that. I’ve seen how my son has had to navigate the “Sanidad” system. At our age healthcare is the number one priority. So it is a hard NO for the jewel crown of retirement. Oh, and I also have lived in Panama too on and off during several years and I still have friends there. Another hard pass.
