Malaysia is extremely underrated in many ways especially the capital of Kuala Lumpur. I felt safe, people were super nice to me and limitless options of food.
No thanks, Muslim law
Ignorance remains our greatest adversary. Despite living in an age characterized by advanced information and communication technologies, we consistently neglect to conduct even the most basic research. While Malaysia is a nation composed of diverse religions, each with its own set of laws, coexistence has not proven to be a significant issue there, nor in neighboring countries like Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. This assertion is based on personal experience. We in the western hemisphere tend in many cases to paint everything with the same color because we simply don't know!
I loved Malaysia, I ranked it up there with Bangkok. It fits in between Singapore and Bangkok quite nicely.
@jonasm9096 Except they don’t like gays or Jews
@@magentamagenta1274 I am half Jewish from father's side. I feel you are making up stuff, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, there you have all the mishmash of religions living side by side and all orientations I have been there many times so I know for fact. Ignorance is our worst enemy 😞
I cant believe no one rates Thailand. You can live right on the beach in a city like Jomtien, living on a pension. Great cheap food and accomodation, and the best cheap nightlife in the world. You people have no idea.
High crime rate
@@glenw-xm5zf Actually Thailand's 'global peace index' is better than France's for instance. It's actually rather safe, even in Bangkok or Chiang mai. And you can live a good life there for about US$1,500/month.
Please don’t go to Thailand,it getting crowded for us just go to Italy Portugal..
😂

Dont go to muslim countries. Spain and Portugal are not interesting anymore. Too expensive.
Why not go to Muslim countries? Morocco is amazing.
Philippines is a third world country. Smiles everywhere with warm hospitality. Give them an inch and they give you miles..

If it's so good there then why do so many phillipinos work all over the world and not at home?

Filipinos are family oriented happy people and will work where they can and return money to home .

Thailand not on the list?
Incredible!
I find this surprising too
I'm especially interested in countries like Portugal with its warm climate and excellent healthcare system. Thank you for your thorough analysis and insight.
Expensive and overated
I watched a video yesterday that said they do get cold rainy weather and the lodging isn't designed for it.
@darren2484 Very affordable in the midlands and amazing opportunities to buy and restore a home in some of the xisto stone house villages whilst enjoying access to its many historic sites and river beaches.

Portugal is getting really expensive in last months. I think now it is more expensive than Spain.
Portugal is Much more expensive
That's what happens when everybody focuses on one spot too long, then it becomes too saturated with people
@@soniaschafer7483 No, we aren’t more expensive than Spain. It depends on the area of Spain versus Portugal.
Too many wealthy people, especially Americans, are moving here and causing higher housing costs. Still, it is no where near the prices in the U.S. I was born and raised in the U.S., but am Portuguese and live here. I know both countries and costs in the U.S. are astronomical and ridiculously high.
@soniaschafer7483 In Lisbon and Porto, yes but way more affordable in the midlands with lots of little abandoned xisto stone villages that can be restored.

@@dianademonte5672no joking
You must mention the race you are in or religion
No wonder, Spain & Portugal, # 3 & 1 respectively, They are virtually joined at the hip, that you can almost call it one country
Yah, a bit like the USA and Canada in that respect.
They speak different Languages
The word “expats” is a new word used only by people from USA to avoid the proper term “immigrants”
It is a paradox the immigrants’ country USA have been building an stigma around the word immigrants
All of us living in US are immigrants excluded the native Americans, the original inhabitants of this land.
Once I hear someone saying “expats” I feel sorry for them. Be proud of being an immigrant and even better, learn the language of the country you choose to live in
"Immigrant" carries the connotation of someone on the path towards citizenship in a new country.
I'm surprised, frankly, that Yanks even use the word. I think we coined it here in Britain in the 1960s. To live more affordably, we sought out destinations like the Costa del Sol ... not seeking to immigrate, but rather to live as expatriates, which got abbreviated to expats. Indeed, maximum pension benefits in some countries require spending at least 6 months per year resident in your home land. So people dependent on a government pension are not going to actually immigrate to their secondary place of residence ... they will become instead long-term visitors. Several host countries limit visas to 6 months per year. That's why you help your kids construct a garden suite or granny flat for you.
Expats is not a new word and does not just refer to those of one country.
I think you need to widen your "lens". The word expatriate comes from the Latin term ex 'out of' and the Greek term patria 'native country, fatherland'. This word has been in use for centuries and has change in means in some periods of history. My first recollection of this word being used was in Europe referring to fellow country men leaving abroad especially in Southeast Asia. It should not carry any negative connotations as it simply refers to someone voluntarily trying out a new home.

No, very common in the UK to. Does not have anuthing to do with US or UK specific its about moving abroad with the intention to get back home.
Consider Albania. Great weather, quite good health system, brilliant weather and great slow life
Panama have an amazing retirement Visa. European countries crime is increasing, and they all, have very high taxes %. Take care.
My choice is Peru.
All far too expensive for a poor retired English person on state pension
Tblisi,Georgia is supposed to be nice and cheap.
Batumi on the Black sea is even better than Tbilisi

Why people have to go to another country for retirement? Don't they like their own?
