Oh my God I had forgotten this one. How could you ever possibly improve upon the Cure, they are perfection. I thank and praise them for giving me music that speaks to my soul. Life would be so lacking without this.
even when you think the cure are headed for performance disaster, they somehow pull it off. simon was way too heavey on the bass, perry just fucks it up, robert not only forgets the lyrics completely but he proceeds to improvise his guitar parts which turn out to be brilliant. this is why i've been watching the cure live for almost 20 years now.
i was there!!!! yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssss, robert was really stoned and/or drunk there! 0.55:oh dear,it looks that simon was looking at robert,if he is still breathing.....;-)))
listen to the begiining lyrics : "I've been watching me fall for it seems like years"... doesn't that ring a bell ? Robert Smith is known for changing the lyrics of existing songs (I have so many versions of faith for example) and try out new lyrics which ultimately end up on another album
Hello, Robert is not wasted, this is from the bizarre festival-- They were supposed to play songs a bit different or out of sorts. Thats what's good about The Cure, their ability to change.
Between 1996 and 2000 Smith drank fairly heavily. There are other videos of him totally drunk performing..I can't remember the song or video but the year is 1996 and drunk AF.
its always something i wonder when i see a band live, do their songs mean as much to them as they do to you. when they have to get up every night and play these same songs do they have the same or more of an impact on the people that wrote them then they do to you, that songs number one fan. that song that played in the background as you have had some of the happiest and saddest moments in your life. there have been times when i have seen bands play songs live and change them up some and really add to them and make them even greater, and there are times i have seen bands and they play my favorite song. but then they change all the parts and pieces that i love most about the song and it kind of ruins the experience i was looking so forward to experiencing live and sing along with.
Well Robert is quite stoned here... look carefully and you will see him rise from the floor at the beginning... despite being wasted he manages to sing at the beginning the words that we were about to know 2 years later as Watching Me Fall
i was there 1998,m definitly my fave version of untitled, saw the wdr broadcast shortly after the gig and when the lyrics to bloodflowers were posted on the internet i remebered the words he sang and was hoping the song "watching me fall" was gonna be as cool as this song, but wasn't in the end, but still cool anyhow. especially cool how he was lying on the satge during the break instead of going backstage, you can ee him stand up around 0:55 into the song ;-)
If he was drunk, why did he change the lyrics back on the second verse? I dunno, nobody knows with The Cure, thats why they are still the best band out there. Take Care. Its ok to disagree with me.
I don't think he fucked anything up at all. He starts with the lyrics for Watching Me Fall and mixes in some other stuff. Remember the trilogy DVD where he talks about how Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers are all thematically connected? This unveils the truth behind that. Really great to hear it. My ears went all flopsy and my brain turned inside out. It was lovely. No mistake. This is Untitled.
I don't think Robert changed the words on purpose. I think he was under the influence of something. At 2:03, look at his face... he has a look as if to say "shit... I'm singing the wrong song." The look on the keyboard player's face says it all as he shakes his head. Roberts playing is also way off. I love Robert and The Cure but man this is NOT one of Robert's best performances but rather a great anti-drug commercial IMHO.
hahaha this version is awful. This is one of my favorite songs too! Maybe they just didn't care when it came to actually trying to make it sound like the original?
Love this version !!! 2 songs in one!!! Drunk & dramatically somber.......Love it!
Oh my God I had forgotten this one. How could you ever possibly improve upon the Cure, they are perfection. I thank and praise them for giving me music that speaks to my soul. Life would be so lacking without this.
I wrote a song called Theatre Of Shame with a similar synth sound and I think it's better than this song (which is excellent, anyway).

Omg I didn't expect this performance to go that way but it ended up working out. Truly something special.
Nobody realizes that he begins singing "Watching me Fall" at the beginning of this song? IT wasn't released for two more years.
Los amo... Son los mejores del rock punk
i was there!!!!

I simply adore land love this song. Used to go for a walk and listened to it, it's so nice. i adore Robert Smith, he cant be greater than he is
Essa é muito boa. Fora que ele está bêbado e deixou mais viajante ainda o som! Amo Cure pra sempre! ^^
With this video you know that nobody knows Watching me Fall, go and listen it.. Amazing song:)
even if he's drunk or high, who cares, he's a god
Tema maravillosoooo!. Nós vemos en Madrid mis queridos CURES. 🎤🖤🎸
One the best lovesongs, sad lovesongs ever written and performed, thank you for hosting this song.
I love the original version of "Untitled" but also this mixture of "Watching me fall" plus "Untitled" is great. Are Bizarre Festivals still alive???
The man is loaded, loaded.
This performance IS super . Hiper show!
Thank you, all the musicians are perfect, Robert Smith is ......in a special dimension..... But I love him.

Lyon 1998 as well. The whole summer 98 tour was a drunken haze with some shows better than others.

WOW WOW WOW! AMAZING even after listening to it a bazillion times :D

watch this show The Cure 1998 Strange Show !!.. Theatre Romain de Fourviere, Lyon
Mr. Robert Smith, todo un personaje digno de alabar. Por eso es mi idolo!!!!!
Robert Smith is a very special and talented musician the best..
Love the bass
This is from 1998 2 years before bloodflowers.
Their timing seems off a bit in the beginning.
wow... watching me fall lyrics fit on untitled
im pretty sure he changed 'em on purpose. all the songs at this festival were played bizarrely, hence the name bizarre festival. :P
I'm sure thats better than any "year song" at least for the last 10 years!
@TheCureMEP btw, i assume he must be making up the lyrics or saying whatever it comes to his mind, but he is great anyway lol
Maria Emilia Paz he is drunk I’m sure seems in the nineties there are lots of videos of him drunk as hell performing
come on guys... any real cure fan knows Robert Smith is way to drunk or drugged up. but still the best.
Robert seemed to throw songs together when trying to perform drunk
If he was drunk, why did he change the lyrics back on the second verse? I dunno, nobody knows with The Cure, thats why they are still the best band out there. Take Care. Its ok to disagree with me.

No mistake.
This is Untitled.
Exactly. I had this on vhs in 2000 and realized he sang an unreleased song lyric to begin this song.
I coudln't agree more with you!
con razón nadie coreó.... genial mi Bob
En el segundo 54 Robert Smith se levanta??? Se tropeso????
Does anyone know what he says exactly. It doesn’t match the other some except the two lines at the start.
What the?? That's funny! I love the original version of this song, this one just makes me laugh seeing Robert drunk or on drugs. Fun to watch!
and yes, he either messed up or whatever, but different lyrics!
and... the robert´s guitar?
Love this one. Suicide tendences while I hear it
ni una más pal robert, jajaja
Robert totally avoided playing the opening part on the fender VI, the song feels flat because of it
i'd take the vocal improvs from forever over these drunken ones! haha. still a good watch tho
This is the encore mutha faka!!!!!!!!!
Good thing they stopped drinking before concerts. Pretty much a disaster that nothing can save.
Untitled??? :) ,Watching Me Fall??? :D
que loco en esta version tien otra letra
I think getting drunk or high right before a concert is really disrespectful to the audience, but what the hell, I love this band.
estan todos locosssssssssssssss tiene mensajes subliminales
stoned...
I don't think Robert changed the words on purpose. I think he was under the influence of something. At 2:03, look at his face... he has a look as if to say "shit... I'm singing the wrong song." jaja batos, andan bien locos! los weyes, todos fumados!
jaja
drogos!
stop 0:55 lol
hahaha.
He's plastered!
que pasa aqui?
Smith cambio toda la letra,
andaba todo drogado!
Cantó Watching me Fall que saldria dos años después, solo eso
Lol. This is just a mess. Glad, those drug days are over. Looking forward to the new album in '07.
hasta se le olvida por partes como tocarla en la guitarra, ja, pero de todas formas es un rolón
lol wtf? I love this song...but...wtf?
i am a fan , but this was a total mess , loose and sloppy
hahaha this version is awful. This is one of my favorite songs too! Maybe they just didn't care when it came to actually trying to make it sound like the original?
OBSENE VERSION ! ... AND AWFUL SINGING ! :s
What other song? Some of the lyrics don’t fit or aren’t part of the watch me fall song?
