It makes sense why Sheldon is hung up on asking for consent first. They connected Young Sheldon when he was unwillingly put into a situation to keep his dad’s secret on the missing cheque during his accounting for their tax.
Too bad that the best scene from the episode wasn't shown: Sheldon arriving at the Cheesecake Factory and telling penny (in front of customers) "You have to release me from my oath"
It's funny how sheldon asks Leonard why he's trying get him involved with this situation and yet throughout the series he has always convinced himself to believe that he has obligation and even the right to interfere with things that have nothing to do with him
