Neil Young kept me sane as a soldier at war. You dunno how much I needed it. Sitting behind a machine gun in a bunker on the midnight watch, scanning the darkness for the enemy, my Sony Walkman headphones on, listening to this song. Holding out for the spaceship taking me to a new home in the sun. I’m at that new home now, and emotion overwhelms as I listen to this song again, three decades later. Emotion for Chris, who died, who’s cassette tape I borrowed to listen to Neil Young, and which I still have. For the sadness and despair of the times, and the healing this music had, and the hope, to one day find happiness, which I now have.

"Look at Mother nature on the run in the 1970's". I lived through those times and truer words were never spoken - rivers catching fire, air too polluted to breathe, super-fund toxic waste sites, species going extinct, etc. Mother nature is still on the run in the 2020's. Have we learned nothing during the ensuing years? Love your Mother!

This song has moved me since I was a teenager first discovering my tastes in music. At 64, it still moves me to this day...

I am Native American American, more moons than I can count any more, but... What Neil Young sings rings true, still today, I saw Crosby Stills and Nash live, and spent them after a show at Santa Barbara County Bowl. I have been blessed

Quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever. Though provoking and moving.

Some people are born in time but live beyond it, and in living their life see all others. Neil Young was one of those creatures. A singular phenomenon with universal scope. What a blessing he is.

Loved this song since the 1970s. Don't know why. Took up painting at 71, Deacon Blues was my first painting reflecting a song. After The Gold Rush is long overdue. Songs that stay with you. I don't why.

  • @keithrussell5917

I'm in my 70's, had the album when it came out, still listening to it. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Love Dolly's version as well. I listen to Neil almost every day. God bless.

1970, Freshman year University of Dayton, Stuart Hall, 5th floor .... After the Gold Rush played constantly. The album was on every turntable, or an 8-Track played on & on. And we all sang along and mimicked Neil respectfully. I want to go back.

In the summer before my sophomore year in high school, I got the news of a friend that was killed in an accident - his jeep rolled over and he was killed. I went to my room and laid down and turned on the radio. This song came on. It was the first time I'd ever heard it. I was paralyzed. The next time it came on the radio I recorded it, and for nearly half a century, I've relived that grief and that emotionally paralyzing crash every time I hear it. Still, I listen and let the sadness and melancholy wash over me - it's too beautiful a song not to.
