This was the first song that started my love for metal. Rick Beato broke it down in his "What Makes This Song Great" series and I liked it enough to listen multiple times and realize I was interested in Periphery. A few years later and I feel like I've really found a part of myself in bands like Periphery, Tesseract, Opeth, and others.
This album doesn't really have a story, I think Absolomb just has that sense of grandeur and sound that makes it feel like a story. There's an orchestral backing to the metal aspects of this song that make it sound bigger and more meaningful. I actually didn't pick up on it until I saw a RUclips comment one time, but there's some really beautiful composition underneath the heavy stuff. The vocals are important, but listen to an instrumental version, and sections like the one starting at 7:38, you'll hear that orchestral feeling.
If you want another good one from this album, try Flatline.

That solo is awesome. Good breakdown of it. You know, Jake does that solo, and he's John Petruccii's nephew, so you know where he learned how to do that stuff!

Can confirm habitual line stepper is extremely over looked, same with heavy heart.

You were dropped in the middle. The Way the News Goes, Absolomb, & then Lune, in that order.
