  • The cam is finally done!! This thing sounds incredible! But how does it perform?
    What this build consists of:
    FRP Tomahawk Cam: 228/238 113.5 lsa .611 .602
    Hellcat lifters
    Hellcat timing chain
    New OEM oil pump, tensioner, guide
    Comp Cams Phaser lockout
    Heads milled, hot tanked, valve job
    Pac 1275x .650 springs

    Someone sent me this video , and I'm glad I saw it. Very informative, I can tell you put alot of effort in giving a "real-world" view of the ups (and downs) associated with both an install like this, plus tuning. Too many youtube videos are "sunshine and rainbows" and overlook the hiccups one might face when doing this level of modification.

    Looks like it pulls good, I have a 14 with 6 speed and I thought about trading it for another one just to get the 8 speed I regret not getting the 8 speed every time I drive it

      You and me both lol my biggest regret was not getting an 8 speed, but once I get attached to something I can’t let it go so I could never get rid of this truck. If you think it would be worth your while and don’t have too much invested into your 6 speed might be worth trading to a 8

      You can swap to a sequential 4 speed can handle 1000 hp

    Did you have the time to run an inside mic around the cylinder walls to determine how much wear the cylinders have? I'm just curious as the short block has over 150K on it. Everything seems to be working out well on this build. Good luck and looking forward to the Drag Race numbers.....................

    Sounds great, being soft on the bottom end will certainly help that trans live longer. Do you have a draggy or wait until next year to compare changes?

    What exhaust is on here and what cold air do U have? Recently swapped factory for a stage 1 cam with hellcat lifters MDS Delete etc

      1 3/4 long tube catless stainless steel kooks headers, to a Mbrp catback, this video I had a volant intake, but I now have a S&B

    Quick question did you run a stall converter w/ the tomahawk? Also, how’s the daily driving with the truck?

      I run a 3600 stall with a 6 speed trans 3.92 gears. Thing daily’s great, every single day from March-December when it’s not salty roads I drove it every day thing drove great, sure at low speeds it likes the higher rpm cuz once the converter locks, it’ll surge a little bit but nothing that makes it non dailyable

      Exhaust is kooks long tube headers, catless, to an Mbrp catback. Headlights are stock housing, with LED lights from GTR Lighting

    How much for the total cost of the cam ? I know it varies in each build roughly

      With the kit, tuning, and all the extra crap I bought along the way that I realized I needed, paint, getting the heads done, came out to about 5k

      It’s good to get a tune after them, you don’t need one for it to run, but you will have a check engine light and the truck won’t be running as well as it could be. But if you have to wait a couple days or weeks to get a tune, it’s not going to hurt anything

    What did you do to get rid of the brake light that came on the dash? Did it just turn off while you were driving or did you have to reset it?

      It’s not that I was completely unhappy with Jay, just there was one instance I wasn’t happy with at all, when I put my 3600 stall in, I sent him logs of it driving like complete crap, and he said “it’ll do that stalls are weird” and when I talked to frp about it, he was like no that’s not supposed to happen at all, and when he sent me a baseline tune for my cam start up, thing already drove ten times better, so I knew that was wrong for sure. And going thru my local shop here that uses frp, they say they have a lot of people come in that have a Greene cam and just aren’t happy, need a retune, or frp cams were just completely smoking in performance. Jay didn’t seem like he didn’t care, but it seemed like he was so overwhelmed he would make his stuff very conservative, and then that was good enough. And for my tune I wanted to make sure this thing was running as good as it could, and keep talking to someone about it without feeling like I was bugging him and getting short answers and getting “yeah it’s gonna do that”. My truck was cam surging a bunch and frp constanly sent me new revisions to try and figure it out. When my stall converter made the trans act funky, I couldn’t even get a revision to even try anything. Idk sorry for the long response but that’s the best I can explain it

      @@Shooff3.4 it also kinda sucks because I have a Greene 2.5hl v2 cam but I’ve been debating getting rid of it because I don’t want to just have the same issues or even worse issues down the rode

      Yes. It may start and idle with the factory tune, but that’s it.

    very unprofessional definitely Shadetree mechanic quality. Why would you continue to let the boat self clearance that’s not something you ignore. It’s something you fix instantly people this is not how it’s done and people wonder why there’s so many rams blowing up.👎👎💯
