I'm only 28 I missed this wave of music but I will be damnd if I won't do my bit to keep it alive, turn it up !!
When i was a school boy in Cardiff, back in 1977, maybe 1978, im not sure, the Stranglers were doing a promotional signing in Spillers Records, before their evening concert in the Capital theatre.
On my way home, i and around a hundred over fans, crammed inside the small record store, wanting to see them, and hopefully get their autographs.
For some reason, Jet Black wasn't in attendance, but i got the rest of the groups autographs,
That was a crazy 46 yrs ago, and i can remember it vividly, as if it was just the other day.
Scared the shit out of me did this band as a lad but I still think this song is a classic and all these years later, one of the great British Bands.

This single signaled the start of a genius level run where they cranked out hit after pop hit for several years.
Few bands do that.
One of the best tunes ever.
I saw them perform it live and I might have died at that moment or transcended or something. It was a memorable moment. I went to many concerts in those days but this is one band I would never miss.
And, I think they must be especially worthy of respect, because I talked to everyone in those days, but was midful of my manners when speaking to a Strangler.

Legendary Stranglers sense of humor at its best. Hugh sings crazy good, living dead like rhythm section choir boys JJ & Jet are hilarious, and Dave is downright awesome !

Always been one my favourites from The Stranglers. It really deserves to be much more famous.
It probably would have been if the BBC hadnt have banned it from being played on ANY of their stations "because it is blasphemous" (my ARSE!) . The Priest or Vicar who allowed them to use his Choich for this brilliant, funny video certainly didnt think there was anything blasphemous or shocking about it, that's for sure. By all accounts hé was a very nice chap and the whole lot of them got on very well indeed !
Stupid BBC (of the time !)...they are probably kissing JJs and Hughs arses thèse days, just like they are with all the other old bands they tried to squash at the time. Long Live JJ and Hugh, R.I.P Dave and Jet...and best wishes to Boz and the twô youngsters. 🖤

Saw The Stranglers a few times at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Magic! Don't know if I'm getting confused, I am at a funny age after all, but I seem to remember JJB threatening to deck a fella who threw something at him , an unknown liquid. JJ stopped playing , commented " Dya think that's funny with all this electrical stuff about?" I think he was a 3rd Dan at the time. They didn't mind us throwing toy rats at them! After Hugh left I saw them at some biker festival , Buxton way I think. It wasn't the same, but the strippers were good. Happy Days!

As an American I never understood this line. I always assumed it was the name of a tacky family with money that married into some impoverished noble family and that everyone in England knew the joke but Wikipedia doesn’t explain anything about it.

I think the boys must have had a lot of fun making this video, absolutely brilliant.
They probably did, but the video was banned by the BBC TV (and on radio for the song, I think), not because they were making fun of those related to the Royals, but because they were dressed like Church Choir Boys which was found to be offensive.
