A very recent beginner here, searched RUclips for 100's of hours for crotchet 'how to's' and "Marly Bird" is the most clear, consistent and flowing instructions on the internet. Also, Marly Bird, your voice is that of music (you have no idea how your voice encourages me to follow along), I say this specifically because your voice is clear, not annoying, doesn't have lip smacking or spit noises or noises of the mouth opening, just your smooth instructions without the background noises that the mouth can make). I was getting to my wits end until I found Marly Bird!

Just started this basket today and like many of the comments my work was wavy, within the first 4 rows! I am a tight crocheted so I started over with a size 9 hook. Much better! May I make a suggestion for those of you that are still having problems? When you start to make your hdc, pull up gently when you have the 3 strands on the hook, then yarn over and try to have the 4 strands of yarn in an even line, then pull through all 3 strands to complete the stitch. Hope this helps!

I wish I had some of this yarn. All I have in bulky are the solids I think. Will have to check. I can sure use more baskets! Thanks for another great tutorial!

I have followed this pattern through row 5 three times and each time it comes out very wavy. It looks about like a pringles potato chip! I think my stitch count is spot on, but maybe I am not counting the stitches correctly?? Could you address this problem? (I am using the Bernat Pop Bulky yarn and a size 8 crochet hook). I really want to get this right as I am making it for my grand daughter and also bought enough yarn for 2 more baskets. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated . Thank you, Liz B

Marly I tried the basket. The first time It developed a distinctive curve inward so I assumed I was crocheting too tightly. Tried again and it was better but felt a little floppy. Is the one you made soft or stiff? Just trying to access how I did. Although I learned to crochet a gazillion years ago, I consider myself a newbie. Thanks!

I'm confused at row 4 on the increase. So... two hdc then one, then two? What is time five? Three hdc then one then three? Is that what you mean? Is the crochet supposed to kinda curl up? I'm trying to keep it flat

If I remember correctly, you are working joined rounds for this project. That is why you have to do a ch 1 after the join. The ch 1 does not count as a stitch.

Had the same thing , figured it out later , 2 single crochet in one stitch is constant in even round , only thing is we have to increase the one , for instance 2,1,2,1 for next round 2,1,1,2,1,1 and another round 2,1,1,1,2,1,1,1 if you follow this you won't see the curls it will be round and flat
