I always really liked the idea of Donnie having an artificial shell. It's one of the reasons I was so excited for Rise. It just seems like something he'd do if his shell got damaged.
In ROTTMNT, it’s actually a protective shell he built to cover his real shell, which is too weak because he’s a soft-shell turtle. Leo, Raph, and Mikey are a red-eared slider, snapping turtle, and box turtle.

Donatello’s near death in the IDW comics left me with an emotional scar that I doubt will ever fully heal lol. A few years ago at a local comic convention I got the opportunity to listen to Kevin Eastman talk about issue 44 and he said that they work on the comics several issues in advance so when one is published, they’re already way passed it and working on new things. He said that the Thursday after it was released he woke up to the internet losing it’s minds over them killing Donatello and he was like, We did what?? 🤣 But that was because he and Tom Waltz had already wrote him being ok. LOL
Cheer up dude , dont get emotionally scarred from fiction. Actual life is way more traumatic. Grow that shell thicker young one, you got bigger scarier ones heading your way.
For me the most tragic and emotional death of Donatello was this one (IDW) due to his shell being smashed in and the turtles and their allies all morning his supposed death. I’m sure that “Blood in snow” (The Last ronin: #4) will have an even more brutal and devastating death for Donnie as well as Splinter, can’t wait to see how Mikey reacts to those two’s deaths when he finally arrives in Japan and how he will fully become the Last ronin.
@@sarahshivak2593, two reasons why they most likely kept Donnie for last in the Last ronin comic series could be. 1) When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were coming up with the concept for the series over 30 years ago they probably had it all planned out in advanced for which turtle would die first and how. Most likely Kevin wanted to keep to the original plan and that’s most likely what they did. 2) As I stated above the people behind the comic are most likely keeping to the original plan and also it would make sense to keep Donnie as the last to fall. If you think about it both Mikey and Donnie have a strong bond (quite possibly as strong in this incarnation) so after seeing his final brother die/fall it would be the final straw for Mikey to push him to become darker and more vengeful if he witnesses his brother’s death or sees his corpse. This could possibly be the reason why and would be really impactful on the story. So this is most likely why Donnie is the last to die.
For those who are sad. He came back to life. They put his soul Into metal head but I forgot how he got back to his body. Idk if that story is canon or not though
In all techincallity he was immortal while in Metal Heads Body which if I recall happens in different series also I just don't remember what itteration it occurred (I was smaller cut me some slack)In that version Metal Head was turtle sized and Silver he also had hidden weapons built all throughout his body. I think he was Baxter's creation in that iteration and Donnie had reprogrammed him or something like that but I honestly can't recall because it was so damn long ago.. All I can remember was due to a life threatening injury he was stuck using Krang tech and Metal head's body. but that's all I can recall..sorry.

I just got to this arc in comic and HOLY SHIT my heart DROPPED, seeing my favorite turtle go through all of that shocked me. I'm REALLY loving the IDW comic rn.
Definitely, He’s been close to death and turned into a cyborg (Image/Urban legends), He’d been double mutated (2003), he’d got his shell cracked and his consciousness downloaded into the Metalhead robot (IDW), he had been mind controlled, possessed/double mutated, molecularly scattered, chocked and turned into a cyborg (2012) and whatever death waits for him (The Last ronin). I absolutely agree, Donnie has the worst luck out of the turtles mainly his 2012 version.

There have been occasions though that he’s not been so lucky like, 2012 when he had been infected by experimental mutagen which gave him ‘shell acne’, brutally beaten and got impaled. Apparently for behind the scenes for the Last ronin mini series Kevin Eastman always wanted Mikey to be the surviving turtle due to the reason you’ve just said and because he’s the youngest. This is what I’ve seen when I bought the Director’s cut for #1.
I used to think the red sky seasons of Ninja Turtles were kind of dark as a kid growing up in the '90s but wow! The comic books were definitely darker and more violent than the cartoons.
It really hurt me. Poor Donnie! He was my favorite turtle growing up. Bebop and Rocksteady left him in a coma. But then his soul was transferred into Metalhead until his body healed, then he went back to his body fully recovered.

Not a fan of this art style. IDW seems to be heavily inspired by Nikelodeon TMNT 2012. And i sort of liked that series, but the Turtles look so weird and slim. I prefer the original Mirage art style.

@@EtaYorius their body types makes sense though. They’re martial artists, they should be lean. And amongst themselves their bodies are different, at least in this art style. Leo is lean as he’s the most all-round skilled fighter, Raph is stockier as the brawler, Mikey is a little pudgier and Donnie is the thinnest since he uses his intellect more than his physique in combat

There are a few thing i don't like about tmnt idw, like the reeincarnated characters and the weird shredder without a head. Tmnt has a history of weird stuff going on but this Story is too weird even for tmnt standards. But i honestly hope you all enjoy it none the less. I'm not going to shit on it just because i don't like it.
The few issues before the attack and the few after are INCREDIBLE STORY TELLING! Hooked me immediately- I encourage anyone out there who hasn’t read to do so. If I recall correctly the issues necessary are 43-46/7? It can be years from now but I welcome your feedback!
The one thing is it'd probably be for adults unless they either make dons death kid-friendly, or cut put this part entirely. Which I'd doubt they would do because of the fact that this was one of the better parts. I'm also pretty sure there are other gorey parts, idk I haven't read the comics.
Did Shreddar believe Donatello was treacherous by sending him and his forces into an ambush and that's why he ordered Donatello to be killed? But it wouldn't surprise me if Shreddar was still going to do it anyways.
Even more compelling was what was done with Metalhead afterwards. Essentially retaining a copy of Donatello’s mind and going crazy…. Making you question which one is real and seeing robo Donnie descend into vengeful madness from a lack of sensory perception.

Ngl even though Don is my favorite and I see a lot of myself in him, he set himself up by not telling anyone. Seeing as splinter and a couple of friends were not with the other turtles they could have been informed. Maybe they were just tired of Don's wooden Bo Staff.
At this point in the comics Donnie wasn't on best terms with Splinter or the Turtles, because Donnie was worried about Krang terraforming Earth while Splinter was too caught up in getting vengeance on Shredder, and pushing the brothers to train. So he kinda goes out on his own during this arc. This is why Donnie compromises and seeks out help from the Foot.
Comic books often kill off characters only to bring them back later. Because of this I rarely feel anything when a character does die. In the back of my mind I'm thinking, "They're gonna bring him back.". Donatello's death in the IDW comics is one of the few exceptions. Even though I knew they were gonna bring him back his death still got to me. It was brilliant to have Bebop and Rocksteady kill him. This shows they are dangerous foes despite their stupidity. Never in a million years did I imagine them killing one of the turtles. The emotional drama the others are dealing with over Donatello's death was surprisingly done well.
Man i hate what the producers of almost every series do to Donnie. In the Movie reboot, the batman cartoon, the 2012 series, he is thin, has glasses, a nerd geek, the weakest turtle, stupid voice and a simp, always getting his ass kicked. I get it he is a techno geek, BUT the 2003 series for example did it good! Looking normal, kicking ass, not being inferior to the rest of the team. I hate it how Raph and Leo always get the main roles and Donnie and Mikey always are the Side Turtles. Make Donnie great again!

Man the idw tmnt is gold from issue 1-50, 50-100 was awesome aaaaand that’s about it. But I loved the way they handled shredder, the foot, the hamato clan, reincarnation…the Donatello and metal head struggle arc was great. The way they made me love slash 👌🏼 glad to see more idw 🐢’s

I've not read this but it sounds epic. I love IDW their Transformers series is fantastic with some of the best artwork I've ever seen. Will definitely be checking out the ninja turtles to after watching this.
They cant kill bebob and rock steady they heal real quick bebop and rocksteady hit road reveal they have a healing factor similar to deadpool and logan

I wanted to ask you, seeing as how you’re familiar with the IDW TMNT comics, can you do any type SUPER IN DEPTH videos on this series? I’ve been collecting the 13 hardcover collected editions for some time now, and have been looking for ANY material on RUclips that looks into this series, it’s lore, or anything related to behind the scenes material for this series, and believe it or not, there ISNT much material on this series on RUclips. To be honest, I would LOVE to find something along the lines of a breakdown for each of the 13 volumes of the IDW collected editions. Seeing as how you’re such an avid and awesome Turtles fan, I can only imagine you’re probably the most qualified to ask of this. Lastly, (I know this is a bit long, I apologize) as I was getting ready to get into the IDW series, I had a VERY hard time differentiating the difference between the MULTITUDE of TMNT comic lines that have come out over the years. Is there ANY WAY you could do a video breaking down the different series that have come out over the years, and what content is included with which series? I know there were the mirage comics, image did a tmnt run, idw… shoot, if you go on ebay and search tmnt IDW comics, you’ll see just how confusing it can get for someone trying to collect ONE specific set compared to another. I haven't read a comic book in general since forever ago so everything I come across that's had a comic adaptation or was originally a comic is absolutely new to me.
I think this was when I stopped reading the comics regularly and keep forgetting what I left off, this had definitely scarred me even when Donnie bounced back. I think this is my favorite version of Donnie, I don't know why, how, but something about him is just perfectly different. He's a total badass when he wants to be too

Also, anytime they use teleportation they’re destroying their bodies and their minds/souls reconnect with them wherever they go (pretty sure that was talked about in one of the issues), so if that’s the case then they’ve all died so many times and have been recreated over and over again. I did like them in out of the shadows, yes they're not competent enough to take out one of the turtles, but gave'em a real run for their money! They have the best scenes in the movie!

Leatherhead used mutagen and basically kept Donnie's body alive. They did some comic book tomfoolery and he was put back into his body.

Tmnt has a history of weird stuff going on but this Story is too weird even for tmnt standards. But i honestly hope you all enjoy it none the less. I'm not going to shit on it just because i don't like it.
The few issues before the attack and the few after are INCREDIBLE STORY TELLING! Hooked me immediately- I encourage anyone out there who hasn’t read to do so. If I recall correctly the issues necessary are 43-46/7?

The one thing is it'd probably be for adults unless they either make dons death kid-friendly, or cut put this part entirely. Which I'd doubt they would do because of the fact that this was one of the better parts. I'm also pretty sure there are other gorey parts, idk I haven't read the comics.

Even more compelling was what was done with Metalhead afterwards. Essentially retaining a copy of Donatello’s mind and going crazy…. Making you question which one is real and seeing robo Donnie descend into vengeful madness from a lack of sensory perception.

Ngl even though Don is my favorite and I see a lot of myself in him, he set himself up by not telling anyone. Seeing as splinter and a couple of friends were not with the other turtles they could have been informed. Maybe they were just tired of Don's wooden Bo Staff.
At this point in the comics Donnie wasn't on best terms with Splinter or the Turtles, because Donnie was worried about Krang terraforming Earth while Splinter was too caught up in getting vengeance on Shredder, and pushing the brothers to train. So he kinda goes out on his own during this arc. This is why Donnie compromises and seeks out help from the Foot.

Comic books often kill off characters only to bring them back later. Because of this I rarely feel anything when a character does die. In the back of my mind I'm thinking, "They're gonna bring him back.". Donatello's death in the IDW comics is one of the few exceptions. Even though I knew they were gonna bring him back his death still got to me. It was brilliant to have Bebop and Rocksteady kill him. This shows they are dangerous foes despite their stupidity. Never in a million years did I imagine them killing one of the turtles. The emotional drama the others are dealing with over Donatello's death was surprisingly done well.

Man i hate what the producers of almost every series do to Donnie. In the Movie reboot, the batman cartoon, the 2012 series, he is thin, has glasses, a nerd geek, the weakest turtle, stupid voice and a simp, always getting his ass kicked.
I get it he is a techno geek, BUT the 2003 series for example did it good! Looking normal, kicking ass, not being inferior to the rest of the team. I hate it how Raph and Leo always get the main roles and Donnie and Mikey always are the Side Turtles. Make Donnie great again!

Man the idw tmnt is gold from issue 1-50, 50-100 was awesome aaaaand that’s about it. But I loved the way they handled shredder, the foot, the hamato clan, reincarnation…the Donatello and metal head struggle arc was great. The way they made me love slash 👌🏼 glad to see more idw 🐢’s

I've not read this but it sounds epic. I love IDW their Transformers series is fantastic with some of the best artwork I've ever seen. Will definitely be checking out the ninja turtles to after watching this.

I wanted to ask you, seeing as how you’re familiar with the IDW TMNT comics, can you do any type SUPER IN DEPTH videos on this series? I’ve been collecting the 13 hardcover collected editions for some time now, and have been looking for ANY material on RUclips that looks into this series, it’s lore, or anything related to behind the scenes material for this series, and believe it or not, there ISNT much material on this series on RUclips.
To be honest, I would LOVE to find something along the lines of a breakdown for each of the 13 volumes of the IDW collected editions. Seeing as how you’re such an avid and awesome Turtles fan, I can only imagine you’re probably the most qualified to ask of this.
Lastly, (I know this is a bit long, I apologize) as I was getting ready to get into the IDW series, I had a VERY hard time differentiating the difference between the MULTITUDE of TMNT comic lines that have come out over the years.
Is there ANY WAY you could do a video breaking down the different series that have come out over the years, and what content is included with which series? I know there were the mirage comics, image did a tmnt run, idw… shoot, if you go on ebay and search tmnt IDW comics, you’ll see just how confusing it can get for someone trying to collect ONE specific set compared to another.

It was very dark moment, I grew up watching TMNT and never thought about dark sides.

I think this was when I stopped reading the comics regularly and keep forgetting what I left off, this had definitely scarred me even when Donnie bounced back. I think this is my favorite version of Donnie, I don't know why, how, but something about him is just perfectly different. He's a total badass when he wants to be too

Also, anytime they use teleportation they’re destroying their bodies and their minds/souls reconnect with them wherever they go (pretty sure that was talked about in one of the issues), so if that’s the case then they’ve all died so many times and have been recreated over and over again. Shredder died and went to hell. It was collected into a graphic novel. The art was beautiful. The story was all over the place.

Besides, they are still continuing the plot related to mutant town, Peace with Footclan,the moves of Baxter and now the RatKing.
