Best damn quote in all of TMNT. I love how it wasn't Splinter who killed him. It was Saki. I wonder if Splinter planned to drop his ass unto police custody, or was going to drop him after finishing the sentence? We will never know...As Splinter is pointing out his fatal flaw, we see Saki die by his very own dishonorable hand, as he launched that dager at Splinter's face. Very beautiful. Very poetic. That first movie was truly one of the best family films ever made I think.
Emotional second....CASEY HOLDING SPLINTER WHEN THEY MET IN THE MOVIE....Casey says you call this here that down there FAMILY..SPLINTER SAYING THE SHEDDER USES YOU POISONS YOUR MINDS..when splinter says Casey with kinda of a whisper this was my favorite scene I'll never call golf a Dule game again kissing the golf club lol funny heart felt and sadness all together
@@acehinkle583 Well said. "The shredder cares nothing for you, or the people YOU hurt. The shredder uses you, poisons your minds to obtain that which he desires". I love just how implicitly Splinter trusts Casey. "I'm a friend" right after meeting him. How quickly Splinter relies on him. Splinter is a good judge of charecter. He's a great father...He imedietly sees Danny is in over his head. But Splinter knows exactly how to reach danny, taking his time to do so. And he has no concern for him self, the situation he is in, and doesn't even think to outright ask for Dannys help knowing Shredder is likly to kill the kid for helping him free. Danny bides his time. Keeps his head on straight as best he can considering how afraid he is and how deep he is in Shredder's cult. Its such a tightly written script. The pacing, the dialogue and emotions hits me everytime I watch it even though I've seen it at minimum 50-100 times in in my fourty years. They did everything right with this film! It so quickly begin to fall apart with how rushed and lackluster the second film was. Especially with nonsense plot points, inconsistencies between films, and how it became a reflection of the more goofy Saturday morning cartoons. Keno and Splinter's scenes where hollow, and Splinters speaches became more lile a fortune cookie "eastern philosophy" mumbo jumbo then explicitly ties to any emotional plot point. So Keno and Splinters lack of connection felt more hollow then Splinter and Danny. That whole second film lacked heart or depth of the first one... At least it had "combat coldcuts". 🤣
I was sobbing when that part happened, Mikey is my favorite turtle so I understood his pain and I’m the youngest in my family. The 2012 iteration of TMNT will always be my most favorite version of all time, it’s not just a cool modern take on these characters but it’s very respectful to every single version of TMNT that we’ve gotten over the past 30+ years.
I was sobbing and crying HARD during Splinter dying, and Mikey calling him papa hit me so hard. Just thinking about it making me about to start crying😭💔
Bit late to the party on this, but one of my favorite dark TMNT moments is from the original Mirage comics where Splinter gets trapped in a silo and starts having philosophical conversations with the Rat King that eventually leads to Splinter eating a live rat. It ends with Splinter discovering Rat King's dead corpse and realizing he was hallucinating him the entire time. I was actually very surprised to see aspects of this get adapted into an episode of the 2012 cartoon.
Even after all the hate it gets, especially by 2003 fans, it still proves that 2012 was the best ever made. Now we got Rise anime Turtles that was so bad it was cancelled. Again, 2012 is proven the best.
@@k-dogg9086 2012 and 2003 ninja turtles have always and forever be the best ninja turtles made. 2003 was bad ass and like it came straight outta the comic. The first adaptation we gotten that was way darker then the rest of the shows at the time. I feel it set up for 2012 to be the best it could be.
I'm so glad that you're talking about these moments. I love their turtles and I have loved the turtles for about 30 years now but these dark moments are few and far between so thank you. You. I love the original dark moment where they killed the shredder and then Leo kills him again.
are the dark moments in tmnt actually rare though? the original mirage comics were pretty dark, the 2003 series which adapted those comics was also pretty dark and both the 2012 show and IDW comics have dark moments. i wouldnt call them that rare at all.
Since the original comics were pretty dark even though it was a satire inspired by daredevil I noticed while growing up that even within the cartoon things would escalate and get casually dark from time to time. The IDW comics recaptured the dark ton of the first comic while adding so much onto it and naturally taking the Lord of the world seriously. So good.
The moment that most sticks out to me being dark is from the 2012 series when they go to the farmhouse and meet April's mom. When she turns out to be the giant monster. It's one of the most heart wrenching moments dealing with April for me to watch
Very true, also the whole situation with her dad constantly going from mutant to normal, which I hate to say is kind of funny in retrospect, since it was mostly a result of TMNT 2012's most major flaw, filler, seriously I love the show, but it's annoying on re-watch since a good amount of episodes can be skipped with literally no issue, especially towards the end, and I know it's because their budget was limited meaning they had to make the most of the 3d models they already had, but it was still disappointing seeing the turtles just mucking around for most of every season until they were finally allowed to visit a new location and continue the plot, sorry for the rant, it's just something ive noticed upon rewatch. It's sad cuz I know it wasn't the people who worked on it's fault, it's Nickelodeon's for being stingy with a brand like TMNT and a show that I'm sure brought them a shit ton of money from distribution, toy sales, video games, clothes, etc, etc, so it sucks to know they couldnt be bothered to throw the team behind the 2012 TMNT a few thousand more dollars that would have made the show so much better...again sorry for the rant, I really do love TMNT 2012, not trying to hate on it at all
4:48 how you said, it’s a memorable moment from TMNT comics, this scene was used in the 2003 and 2012 show (but the version that is more closer to that scene from the comics is the 2012 TMNT, i guess bc the 2 versions did an amazing job) tbh is amazing how a “kid show” have this type of dark and mature moments, nice video :)
"Same As It Never Was" is one of my favorite episodes from TMNT 2003, it's just like the Gargoyles episode "Future Shock". Splinter being killed in TMNT 2012 was so sad. Michelangelo's "Papa...." hits hard.
You already gathered up my top 3 xD But the wonderful thing is that there are far more moments to suggest. 1) Donnie supposedly dying in the comics after being beat by Rocksteady and Bebop. 2) the fight between Raph and Leo in the 2007 movie. 3) the moment where Leo is thrown in through the window in the 2003 and 2012 series. 4) when the turtles decided to blow up along with Shredder in the 2003 and supposedly "die" 5) When Raph himself as the Shredder in 2003 serie due to a nightmare monster. 6) When the turtles gather around a fire to see Splinter's spirit in the comics. The list keeps going.
Definitely loved the movies after the 2012 series run with usagi yojimbo and the turtles against the samurai wolf jei, also the failed attempt from the turtles trying to stop the krang from detonating a nuclear mutagen bomb that mutated all the humans on earth to the 2003 series of Baxter getting mutilated from utrom shredder for every failed mission against the turtles. Really felt sorry for this iteration of Baxter Stockman. So many dark moments in movies, comics and cartoons.
Also the pulverizer getting mutated from the mutagen thinking he would get powers becoming mutagen man in the 2012 series. Not sure if Donnie ever cured him later on in the series to alopex cutting tiger claws hand instead of killing him to the 2003 series of Hun killing Casey Jones father and jones wanting revenge.
@@OscarG787 There are loads of them, yes. Totally agree with you in regards to the mulitation of Stockman and most definitely when Hun killed Casey's dad. There's also that other scene where Shredder murdered Hamato Yoshi in the 2003 series and leaving Splinter behind. Even the murder of Tang Shen was heartbreaking.
The same as it never was. I still hear Raph crying Leo's name as he dies on top of his brother, I swear on everything-that episode traumatized me. It always makes me so sad when I watch it.
I have two from the Archie comics: 1- Where a blind Michaelangelo gets tortured by a doctor (forgot why and who it was, its been a while). 2- Mutanimals getting slaughtered on the island, even pretty big characters we have seen for many issues just die.
@@mex321 It's my favorite Archie arc. Mikey winds up getting grabbed by government agents, locked in a cage, and put on a huge boat. Synargo is the one who starts torturing him. Leo and Don lead a rescue. Synargo falls overboard and Mikey goes after him. It gets broadcast by April and Oyuki.
@@brightlotusmoon Thats cool, i agree its a great arc for sure. One of the arcs i really enjoyed is the Slash arc where he joins Shredder and the Turtles fight him and that one eyed pink monster, i have the whole story arc comic right behind me on my shelf actually. Then again Archie Turtles was a lot of fun to read, from the space tournament to Knull and the future Turtles arc, just a great comic in general.
I feel like the 1990 movie as a whole deserves a spot for dark moments in TMNT history. It's funny how at the time, the movie was considered too dark and violent which is why Playmates Toys never bothered making toys based on it.
While they are known as cheerful there are more dark moments like: Baxter's entire existence in 03-07 not to mention his new body degradation as well as his mind & when Splinter was thrown into sewer drain in Nickelodeon version
Suggestions for future videos: Insane In The Membrane (an episode of the 4Kids series so dark, Fox refused to allow it to air, leaving it a DVD-exclusive) Get Shredder! (Mainly because it actually has Shredder blow up the Channel 6 news building.) Raphael: Mutant Apocalypse (the episode is set in a post-apocalypse where almost every character died, with Leonardo being mutated into Maximus Kong, the episode's antagonist, and Donatello being a robot). IDW TMNT #44 (Where Donatello is nearly beaten to death) The first few episodes of TMNT 2012 Season 3 (mainly Buried Secrets and In Dreams) TMNT Adventures #64 (the one where the Turtles take on Hitler, and at the end, drive him into committing suicide.)

In the 2012 series the death of Splinter was sad, but the darker moment must be the suicide of Zog.
Issue 66 of the Archie comics (a mature series despite originally being intended for kids.) A dream sequence: Raphael stands on top of a mountain of dead bodies but then gets hit with acid rain, you see his skeleton...
The story of the worms reincarnated shredder should’ve been explained in the 2003 series. Idk if it was too dark or something but it fills that plot hole.
Practically anything in the Image series…I remember buying the first issue as a kid despite being warned by the comic shop guy that I probably won’t like it…boy he wasn’t kidding
You gotta remember, in the 80's, they were teens. They're turtles, they age different to us. They could live for a few hundred years. Even now, in 2022, they would still be in late teens.
People who say Mutant Apocalypse was way too dark and depressing for a kids show will never cease to confuse me. I mean, is this your first experience with the Turtles? Mutant Apocalypse was very dark, sure, but at least all the Turtles lived the whole way through unlike Same As It Never Was. And that's not even getting into the Mirage comics.
There are sooo many.....I remember my first dark (for my point of view as a kid) moment with a TMNT story... was from the 87 show......the first episode when Bebop and Rocksteady fight the turtles, as a kid, I got scare in a moment in that ep. in when Bebop and Rock, have splinter and some of the turtles grabbing by the neck, chocking them, it probably didn't was too violent, but that was in the episodes animated by Toei and those guys knew how to animated well and the Turtles and Spintler looked in pain, it was brief but like I was like 10 back then, I got scare of Bebob and Rock. But now on more mature dark moments........from the 90 film, the battle with the foot in april's apartment when they toss Raphael, man that wake me up on how dark fights in the TMNT could get. Baxter Stockmann in 2003 story....the ENTIRE THING, seen how the poor bastard losing limps every time he fail....man 2003 writers were NUTS. That time in IDW that almost killed my boi Donny.....and the death and destruction of earth in 2012 show, to say a few of my favorites dark moments.
Seeing Master Splinter getting stabbed many times and died from the 2012 series. It was the saddest thing from the franchise. P.S. Sorry for the spoilers. 😢
I remember my reaction to Splinter's death from the series in 2012 after he was already strong for life I was sure he would not die but then the moment Schroeder killed him I just screamed "No !!!!!!" in my room
Splinter having to eat his own kind to survive after a giant fall as suggested by the Rat King who never really existed in the first place… just a hallucination of Splinters. TMNT: Mirage Comic a issue towards the end of the run, I think. That shit was pretty messed up.
4:16 and fun fact for those who don't know or realized. Super shredder in the 2012 ver. Was also originally going to have the thin white line on his neck but now censored.
Mark taylor just died! Please do a video dedicated to his work on TMNT Playmates line to honor his memory. I would love to know what Eastmand and Laird have to say about his contribution to the designs of the figures and packaging. RIP Mark Taylor. You where a true He-Man to us young boys that played with the toys you designed.
Was that the utroms that healed the body after he had died, and using the body as a bio-suit robot like krangs, then that's why the Shredder became an utrom??
Its crazy to think how i once was just a casuall watcher of the series and now i can think of 3 seperate times that someone has been decapitated and 2 times Donnie has become a robot
The scenario when Leonardo behead Shredder and came back having the group to go to Casey Jones's Family country home and the worm that feed/healed shredder's body in issue #1 of the Mirage Comics was also in the 2003 TMNT series as well.
My 5 ate: the campfire scene in the movie Donnie dying in the comics That future episode In The 2003 cartoon where everybody dies Splinter dying in the 2012 series And the best friend they had turning into a super mutant in the 80’s cartoon
The clip when donee get sent to the future it reminded me of the terminator and when all the robots where shooting and all the skulls but there’s less skulls in the ninja turtles show
I want IDWverse to get their own TV Show and I want it done in '03 style. Turtles need to go back to being dark not the hippy eyebleed that Nickelodeon has made it into.
After splinter decapitates shredder they made a game where he survived and the turtles think they kill him again, but he is still alive (great game btw it’s on Xbox one and ps4)
I’m here because I expect the list to be comprised with mostly the IDW versions of the turtles. They’ve been known for churning out some pretty amazing stories that can sometimes Hopsin bring back the money even if it’s just power rangers.

Wowsers... you weren't kidding... these were pretty dark! But awesome! I'm going to watch part 2 right now!!!
Splinter falling down a factory smoke stack breaking his leg and forced to eat rats having hallucinating visions of the decayed corpse of the rat king
It’s amazing Dude 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
For this video, I think the human version of the turtles being beheaded is the darkest of these moments.
100%
"The turtles knock Shredder off the roof". (talking about TMNT#1)
"No, that was me. I knocked him off the roof" -Donatello
The souls winter comic, where Leo gets his hand cut off causing Splinter to throw up in the snow is harsh.
love this video and thanks for playing hyper spoiler now I can't stop thinking about if it's possible to have a cyberpunk TMNT
Another dark tmnt story would be the short story of donatello being the mirage continuity last ronin where its vaugely hinted that hus brothers splinter april and casey all had died along the way and his robot chet made him relive he and his brothers first battle against shredder in a virtual reality simulation
In the 2012 series the death of Splinter was sad, but the darker moment must be the suicide of Zog.
I’ll be subscribing for sure
Issue 66 of the Archie comics (a mature series despite originally being intended for kids.) A dream sequence: Raphael stands on top of a mountain of dead bodies but then gets hit with acid rain, you see his skeleton...
The story of the worms reincarnated shredder should’ve been explained in the 2003 series. Idk if it was too dark or something but it fills that plot hole.
Practically anything in the Image series…I remember buying the first issue as a kid despite being warned by the comic shop guy that I probably won’t like it…boy he wasn’t kidding
I never knew about the idw comics for the tmnt and I love them so much excellent storytelling plus love the new characters especially Alopex.
Great video dude. Hope some Comics Vol 3 & 4 moments make part 2.....
You gotta remember, in the 80's, they were teens. They're turtles, they age different to us. They could live for a few hundred years. Even now, in 2022, they would still be in late teens.
Even though the shredder was the enemy of the turtles he still deserves the send-off of a ninja
Holy shit. I didn’t know about some of these. Keep it coming
The TMNT on nickelodeon simply took the worst turn at once from a normal episode to the absolute worst nightmare episodes I could've watched as a kid
That last one reminds me a lot of Mutants in Manhattan by the art style.
It's the same artist -- Mateus Santolouco.
2003 show unaired insane in the membrane episode where baxter stockman regrows his body only for it to decompose and to make him a simpathetic villain
Excelent video men. Hope they take some of these storys to made a film
The most iconic shreddar death was the 1984 comics. And possibly the canon death of shreddar.
Leo is blind in “same as it never was” not ‘wearing sunglasses’ XD
Watching the turtles die in front of Donny is heartbreaking
Pizza time!
I love it when the TMNT goes dark
😕 And I thought the time when Bebop and Rocksteady smashed Donatello's shell open with a mallet was bad?
Leonardo doesn't just wear sunglasses😎he's blind lolol. Phrasing* 6:00
Definitely gonna have to have the Donatello deaths is the next parts
I mean I was definitely sad when Splinter died however I absolutely realized they were building up to it because he started acting weird imo
The Worm thing from the Mirage comics was used in the 2003 cartoon
Ch'rell's Biocite healing
Was that the utroms that healed the body after he had died, and using the body as a bio-suit robot like krangs, then that's why the Shredder became an utrom??
You're intro statement is so true I love it turtles power
I love TMNT n thats what hits about all issues
DUDE! I did not know this show was that dark! I watched the 80s/90s versions growing up so I always thought they were kiddy...boy was I wrong!
Dude I’ve been watching the 2003 show and while it’s definitely a cartoon there are some really dark moments
When people say tmnt is a series for kids only.
Then this is also in the series
Its crazy to think how i once was just a casuall watcher of the series and now i can think of 3 seperate times that someone has been decapitated and 2 times Donnie has become a robot
The scenario when Leonardo behead Shredder and came back having the group to go to Casey Jones's Family country home and the worm that feed/healed shredder's body in issue #1 of the Mirage Comics was also in the 2003 TMNT series as well.
My 5 ate: the campfire scene in the movie
Donnie dying in the comics
That future episode In The 2003 cartoon where everybody dies
Splinter dying in the 2012 series
And the best friend they had turning into a super mutant in the 80’s cartoon
I definitely remember reading and watching all of these dark moments well except for the original Shredder death from The OG Mirage comics
That ending is epic! Splinter and shredder play fighting as kids omg😢
The clip when donee get sent to the future it reminded me of the terminator and when all the robots where shooting and all the skulls but there’s less skulls in the ninja turtles show
Yeah those were indeed some of the darkest moments of all to me
Check out the IDW origins video after this one: ruclips.net/video/JLnJbr1lhQs/видео.html
Dark? Evil. 🌉
Respect
You should do the time leo almost died in batman and the tmnt part 1
I just need to tell you something that in I feel bad for the episode thank you for making the video
5:05 I dont like how close that date is to now
I would love a part 4
In the original Mirage comics, Casey accidentally kills a kid while trying to stop a mugging.
Your #2 spot was awsome I might even still have that in my basement or garage some were
Oh god 😱😱😱😱
I will never unsee Shredder's face in the '90s movies 💀
What shows are related to The last ronin?
None, the comic was published after any of the shows. It's still relatively new.
hell yea that's one sweet list looking forward to part 2 n 3
I want IDWverse to get their own TV Show and I want it done in '03 style. Turtles need to go back to being dark not the hippy eyebleed that Nickelodeon has made it into.
After splinter decapitates shredder they made a game where he survived and the turtles think they kill him again, but he is still alive (great game btw it’s on Xbox one and ps4)
Those 4 truly went through a lot
I didn’t think Mikey could get any more ineffective as a warrior with nunchucks and then they give him the future gohan treatment 😂
Poor Raph has a tendency to lose an eye in time travel storylines.
Maybe u can do the part when Donnie falls out the helicopter and is full of blood in one of the comics
Do more videos about old mirage comica
The entire colorized tmnt mirage vol2 run
Way to much of the villain win these days. In the original version the shredder couldn't hold a candle to splinter.
I’m here because I expect the list to be comprised with mostly the IDW versions of the turtles. They’ve been known for churning out some pretty amazing stories that can sometimes Hopsin bring back the money even if it’s just power rangers.
