    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 года назад +2

      Thank you :) The main thing is want to try to match the water parameters of the water they're in to be as close as possible to the parameters of the new tank. If it's a big difference, you can use a method called drip acclimation

    Couldn't have said that better myself. Great tips!
    If you have a one-specie tank, I recommend adding new fish when they are small. If you have full-grown African cichlids in your tank, they don't seem to bother the new ones if they are smaller. Guess that they don't see them as a threat.

    Amazing tank ! Is there a reason to have such a thick layer of sand ?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 года назад

      Thank you! It is mostly because the African Cichlids like to dig in the substrate, and also to help diffuse the weight of the heavy rocks

    • @u571fra1
      @u571fra1 Год назад

      Malawi's will dig and sweep the substrate for one reason,
      Breeding ground!
      When you set up a Malawi tank, it is important to fix your rockwork first then add your preferred substrate

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 года назад +1

      I find African Cichlids are pretty calm fish in general. I think having lots of them, keeping a routine for feeding and water changes, and good water quality are all factors that help :)

    Have a question, with the mix of peacocks and mbuna do you worry about your mbuna developing Malawi bloat from high protein intake? Thanks

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 года назад +1

      I make sure I feed them pellets that have both protein and algae in them, along with pellets that are algae/kelp only, and avoid feeding them bloodworms. I will feed brine shrimp very rarely, but I haven't had any issues doing it this way
