Thanks so much for this information! I just ordered those plant holders, Java fern, Anubis and jungle Val for my peacock hap tank! I have other planted tanks with community fish but really wanted to try plants with my cichlids! 😊
Thank you so much! This was a perfect follow-on to last week, and thanks for responding to my question from last week!
I like the clean look of the unplanted substrate and the floating plants.
I have been interested in African Ciclids but because planted tanks are my main love I have not kept them. Thank you for this. Only recently have I started doing floating " superstrates" of plants ' LRB style. Two plants might suggest to your list are Water Sprite and Java Moss as they don't seem to be tasty to fish.
I have two 75' s that need set up. Maybe one will be African Ciclids now. I do have hard water. I work on softening my water for SA Ciclids which I love but I might enjoy a Yellow Lab tank!
I like the easy planter but wish it came in grey too. Match my lace rock. Great video
Around 20 years ago when I was still in high school I had a 90 gallon with mixed Africans. Mbuna, peacocks and haps, maybe even a Victorian or 2. It somehow worked out alright but anyway, one day I brought home 2 amazon swords that were probably about 7 or 8 inches tall. My substrate was incredibly shallow and my light would definitely be considered low. I never ever gave them root tabs yet somehow they grew to nearly the surface and had flowers coming out of the top of the tank. I basically did everything you're not supposed to do with swords and they absolutely thrived and my fish never bothered them at all. To this day I have no idea how I made that work.
Nature
I’m glad I saw this. During my research I saw that this type of fish eat all the plants. Thanks for sharing
Great vid buddy, still the best channel on here
Love your videos ❤ what about moss ? Java moss, Christmas moss ext ?
I have Java fern in my peacock tank as a trial and it’s done well. They will nip a leaf every now and then but for the most part leaves it alone. When females are holding the hang out in the fern too. So much so that my next tank will have it as well as Anubis. Nice video and very informative
I currently keep plants with my shell dwellers. I just super glue (gel) stems to small rocks and plant. Works great.
Excellent video, I need all the help I can get with plants 🤓
Great tips, I am helping our daughter in law come up with some ideas for her oscar tank. Perfect timing on the video!
😎😎I'm #55, greetings from Houston Tx USA Mr. ZENZO family, I've had great experience with the Amazon Sword in my Discus tank, (mind you I'm just a beginner ),, with live plants, do you acquire the additives of "green from the aquarium co op????
I’ve had good luck with Valesnaria as well. The pick at it a little but does well. I actually like to use my mbuna for duckweed disposal.
I've never tried any of the Vals in African Cichlid tanks. Good tip, I'll give it a try. Thanks,
That's a awsome tank room!
Gorgeous aquarium my favorite are the oscars ☺️
Hi zenzo ,great video. A friend of mine keeps vallisneria in a big tank around 840liter with most mbuna and this plant is growing and they almost don't eat it but it isn't in good health condition ,in particular some leaves became a bit yellow.
Very informative, Thank you!
my herbivore mbunas eat all plants including house plant roots, java moss, and java ferns and hornwort and the grass you mentioned. I added a in tank refugium which should work better and has great flow on the ends
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Spectacular fish room 🔥🔥 Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for the good information
Love the content! Thank you for sharing these beautiful fish 👍🏽
Its reassuring that these are all the plants I was planning on using for the shelly tank Im setting up. Set up a rocky corner to plant the vals in with slightly different substrate that hopefully discourages them from digging the plants up. In your experience does duckweed just get eaten?
No, the duckweed won’t get eaten in a Shelly tank.
@@TazawaTanks Awesome to hear
can you give some tips on how to look after these plants? love ur vids
Ciao Zenzo! Du you fertilize in any way?
Question I want to try and think outside the box and find away to put shrimp and glow fish in my chiclids tanks lol
How would you suggest this would work .
Im trying to add more colour and make it look like an ocean
Is Limnobium Laevigatum ok with cichlids?
I would love to hear your opinion about wave makers in African Cichlid tanks. You’re one of my favorite African Cichlid people and I’ve noticed you’re one of the few that doesn’t use them. Would love to see it in a video or just hear your opinion!
I used them many years ago, but I personally don't find a huge use for them unless I have a sponge pre filter attached to them. Some people love them, and I think that's fine. There are many ways to setup a tank to enjoy the fish.
What filter do you use for your tanks??
I put have moss in one and it will grow down the sides and they won't touch it and if they do it grows fast and looks nice with out taking over
Are you adding cichlid salt/ph buffer to your water? How does it do with the plants?
Can you put rocks around some of the plants to hinder them being dug up or will that harm the plants. Also thank for giving more information on cichlid tanks and cichlids. It seems like a lot of people that are posting on uTube are getting away from educating. I like learning about the fish and their care and what I can put in their tanks. I also love diy decorations.
Yes

Haha. I enjoy the look of hornwort. I didn’t realize I was alone in that.
I do too! I have found that I need to introduce it to a seasoned tank and not a younger cycling tank or it will make a HUGE mess. I think a tank with a well developed " superstrate" is very cool and a happy place for fish.
I do too
I have parrots. They used to uproot plants. In my 125g, I have them with amazon swords, java fern, temple plant and money wort and jungle val. I have them surrounded by rocks at the bottom and the fish do not bother them. I also have duckweed floating and they love to eat that. Also I have redroot floaters and they don't bother those. I had hornwort and i just hate that thing, LOL..it sheds it needles all over the place, so never again with that. LOL...awe, go on, give them a try.
Hello, i really need help anyone please answer.. i have a cascade 100 gallon canister filter... it creates a lot of bubbles when out shoots water... i added an air stone and an air filter. I also have a wave maker. My tank is 75gallons, and i have about 10 mbuna for now... Can i have too much OXYGEN and how do i know? I tried to research but can’t come too a conclusion. Thank You!
Not getting fish that are hard on plants any time soon but it's zenzo and apparently I'm a little weird bc I really like how hornwort looks and plan to add it to my guppy/endler tank
How about mixing Mbunas and Peacock in a tank....any suggestions would be much appreciated....

None of these cichlids have pants on!
Hello
Thank you I wish I could get the easy planter in Ontario, Canada
Thank youuu
My trophs destroy every plant I've tried, including anubius, Java fern and floating plants. Have you had the same experience with trophs? Never tried horn wart
What substrate is that in the mubuna tank
Crushed coral
Zenzo, how old are your mega-mbuna? Did you do anything special to grow them so large?
Mega mbuna...that’s a good one! Hmmmm...maybe 4-5 years old or so? Nothing special. Just quality food and lots of water changes.
Hi what’s up I have a 40 gallon tank with cichlid and a 10 with baby ones
Hi, how many cichlids do you have in your 40 gal. I have a 50 and was thinking about going the African cichlids route
Yaaaaaas!!!
What about using aqua soil? Also, why not just glue a net pot to some rocks?
Hello Zenzo!
If yall like color ive have had success with crypt wendtti red they dont bother them at all and i have a assortment of peacocks and haps.
how do u get ur indian mudskipper
My friend ordered them from a wholesaler.
Jungle val didn't last to long for me.got chewed down to the base of the plant.
11:10 the moment you're about to say something inappropriate like hole. Haha
Good luck with severum with live plants
arent mabuna better with fake plants?
💙💙
I would only try the floating hornwort
I've been known to be a "little strange" lol
It seemed impossible...
Thank you for mmm-BOOnuh. I've never been to Africa, but I'd bet no self-respecting locals are saying MUH-boonuh.
Hi Zeno like your comment if your a little strange 😆
Floating plants don't work with wave makers or high flow filters, mytank is 6ft x2ft x2ft and I've tried floating plants and it just goes everywhere...
I agree would not work with my FX6 and wave makers
I have floating plants in the Peacock tank, and there are floating plants. It works just fine, you just have to manage it by anchoring some on one side. You can anchor it to the outlet.
@@TazawaTanks I'll give it a try 😉
POTHOS, only plant that no fish likes to touch. Grows like crazy in high bio load cichlid tanks.
