Shapeoko owners: Be sure to change your router brushes!

- In the manual for the Shapeoko router, it plainly states that you need to replace the brushes periodically. But it's easy to forget to do...and if you wait too long, you might see something resembling an electrical storm!
The symptoms of the issue were that the router sounded terrible, started losing power, then eventually shut down. This was due to a broken brush, which after replacing the pair everything worked fine again.

I am surprised at this point that tool makers have not made the switch to brushless motors for tools. Low kv motors with proper gearing could easily work for them and be far more efficient in power use.
Yeah, I’ve never changed a brush before this one, which is why I made the video! It wouldn’t have even occurred to me that there was a little spring gadget electrical thing in there 😂
@@zwitchguitars Oh you deprived child!!! you never had to redo brushes on your slot cars as a kid? I was changing brushes on electric motors by 7 years old... guess being a child of the 70's gave more life experience then thought hhahaha
@@borgonianevolution No, I never had slot cars. A few toy-grade RC cars, but nothing you could wrench on
But the Makita router. Sooooo much better. I replaced mine with it
