I learned a few months ago the connection between Liverpool and Norway from a RUclips video where a scouse historian told a facinating story. In the 1800’s about Norwegian whalers docking in Liverpool for supplies. Occssionally hiring a dock hand or two and giving them the warm and hearty Norwegian meat stew called lapskaus wich is a traditional meal in Norway. The Liverpoolians called it lobscouse. 😊
I'm Dutch, but know Norway very well. I got a Norwegian girlfriend when I was 16. That, kind of, petered out when I was 20 and had to do my military service, but was rekindled when I was stationed for 3 the last months of service with the Fast Assault Group in Haakonsvern when the international integration of European forces started in earnest, especially between the The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway. Then I started to work on my future and she on hers. Don't talk about Norway and The Netherlands when it is about ice skating. Well, that was back in the 70s. In all, beautiful country, beautiful people, beautiful economy and quality of life. What else do you need?

Whale as beef with sour cream and onion sauce is very good and give you enough vitamins like D3 vitamin and omega. As susi its veeery good and even as raw food❤
When norwegian converted to christianity they refuse to call "christmas" for kristus messe (christmas). That was too much, they allready got the mid winter fiest call Yul, Jul, Geol, Jol, Geola. And it is still today call Jul in Norwegian. The weekdays are still related to old norse Gods. Mandag (moon day), Tirsdag (Tyrs day), Onsdag (Odins day), Torsdag (Thors day), Fredag (Frøyas dag), Lørdag (Bathing day), Søndag (Sun day).
This comment made no sense. There are red heads all over Europe, but especially in Britain aka the Celts. Historically Norwegians have always been dark, proven by historical records and accounts as well as DNA. Blonde hair nor blue eyes didn’t originate in Europe and the average European is dark as well. Think Mediterranean. Blonde hair originated in Siberia Asia and was brought to Scandinavia by the Proto Finns: Modern Finns, Estonians, and indigenous Sámi people who migrated west to Finland during the Last Ice Age. Blue eyes originated in the Middle East, the cradle of all white people! Yet you may be right as 40% of all Brits has Scandinavian ancestry mostly Danish and Norwegian due to the Vikings. Even here in Norway most people were Celtic due to the extreme influx of human slaves. Later the Celtic blood was washed out as the Vikings went east and took slaves from Eastern Europe, mostly Russia, and Ukraine…
For the Norse, Frøya had first pick on her half of fallen soldiers for Folkvang, whilest Odin got the other half for Valhall. This was a very informative video, and I can't say I heard anything (too) wrong :) Another Disney's Frozen fun fact: Disney visited the open air museum I used to work at, and copied one of the buildings there for their Frozen part of Disneyworld Florida. When it comes to whaling, we now only hunt for minke whale, who are of a "least concern" concervation status. There is some controvercy to it here as well, but it typically stops at "I won't eat it". With modern hunting methods, and in my humble opinion, it's much more humane than e.g. wild game hunting - a whale shot by a modern harpoon (with a small explosive charge on the projectile) dies within milliseconds, whilest, say, a deer _can_ live for hours after being shot with a rifle.
And Aurora is our best international artist performing at big stages all over the world. Worth a video on her own. All her albums are fantastic, and her stage performances are fantastic.
One fact he got wrong was about the amber export in the Bronze Age. That was the Danes. You don't find flint or amber in Norway, that was imported (as was bronze). During Norwegian Bronze age, we probably only imported or raided (like vikings, only 1500 years prior). Some speculate that the greek/phonecians perhaps ventured as far north as Norway/Sweden, then, perhaps they would buy hides/antlers from us. During the Roman Iron Age, we exported warriors and wool to the Roman Empire, serving as Auxilliari, bringing roman weaponry/equipment back to Norway.
The best about Norway is the egality in our society, but now we have got politisians who don't care to much about this, even the Labor-party, but pepole react to this and we will see.
Vikings weren't just raiders. Many settled in the countries they fought in. Dublin was founded by Vikings. They had equality between the sexes. Kings and Queens. They had a rich and just legal system. They were the first to create a drainage system. They had rich traditions of cleanliness and they made most that could be stored for a long time. Even today, we have traditions that originate from them, such as flatbread, salted herring, salted and dried meat but also much more. Norwegians live in difficult climatic conditions and are still good at innovating for clothing in bad weather. Even in english language they left their mark...husbond is a norse word and is in norwegian old fashion way. Window...vindu...and so on. Its a lot these few pale people left behind 😊❤
What I like about Norway, my home country, are words like equality, like humility, like pride - in a positive way. Our Christian values and our new religion only reinforce our cooking and continue its idea of who and what we are. We can only hope it will continue. We have a soul that sees that we are all in contact and in communion with each other. May God preserve this and not allow us to be defiled by selfishness and lust!
Vikings also have some history in France and especially the region Normandy as it's translates into "Northman" after the viking Rollo was gifted the land by the French king.
The Battle of Stamford Bridge and the Battle of Hastings in England in the year 1066 mark the end of the Viking Age. The Norwegian Viking king Harald Hardråde fell there. Read more about the battles on Wikipedia.
On the fact that Marilyn Monroe was of Norwegian heritage... it seems the guy who is said to be her father was from around my area of Norway, so she showed up on my family tree when my parents were researching and figuring out the family tree, and there's even a statue of Marilyn Monroe in my town. Whale is super good. You prepear it much like a steak. Consuption has gone down due to multiple reasons, for one, its now a "luxery ware" and costs a good bit, along with stricter whaling laws making so there is less whale on the market, again, increasing its price, and then how the ethics is questioned behind it, as whaling at eating whale is illigal in a lot of the world, which is a belif you can find in a lot of Norwegians now, tho far from all. Its definetly worth eating tho, as it is really good.
