Hey guys, been way too long I know.
Anyway, here is my new original that I've been working on this year. It's called 'Lie To Life'. The reason that I haven't uploaded very much this year is mainly because my life has been filled up with stuff that has kept me busy, mainly as this was my last year of school and I'm heading of for University. I think the main thing about this release is that it's essentially a collection of all the types of riffs that I like to hear in a song.
    Info about the song:
    Tuning is Standard C# (C#,F#,B,E,G#,C#)
Tempo is mainly 200BPM, but the break is down to 163BPM
Slightly different approach to recording guitars this time, as I bypassed the X3's processing and recorded the guitars completely dry of processing. Then I sent them off for reamping, where they were put through real amps and cabs, then mic'ed. If I remember correctly the amp setup was Guitar Maxon OD Peavey 6505+ Mesa 4x12 57.
Drums were EZX Metalheads with kick and snare replaced.
Recording software, as always was REAPER.
    Video editing software was iMovie.
TABS AREN'T FINISHED! I know I've been pretty lazy recently, but I'll have them soon.
I think I'd go as far to say that this is probably the most interesting thing I've written, but some people will differ obviously. I think I'm still a bit unhappy with the mix but whatever.
Album artwork was created by Kizzey over at 2Step Design. Check out her page here / 134009993345423 be sure to like her page!
    Hope you like it!

@FidgetyHand Some people choose to record two rhythm parts left and two rhythm parts right to get a bigger guitar sound, but I don't like doing that. That's called quad tracking. On my songs I've only got one rhythm guitar either side. If you mean a lead part plays the same notes as the rhythm but in a higher octave or harmony, then it depends where I'd put it. If it's just a harmony part to the rhythm guitar, I'd just keep it on the other side, if it's an octave overdub it's in the middle.

Bro. I just started an intense program at my college. And I swear I’m stressed. But I come to your videos and really helps me out. The funny thing your music has some emotion to it that differs you from other artist. Sometimes I just come to you and hear YOU and not the vocals of other bands. You’re amazing man! Thank you for your talent. \m/

holy shit, my younger brother and I used to blast this a lot. I ended up buying this on iTunes like I said.
Funny thing is, he's been getting into instrumental tunes lately, and this came to mind. Was glad to see it's still up. Time flies, man. Can't believe my comment from 9 years ago is still up haha. Feels like yesteryear.

Open an EQ on your guitar track, add a high pass filter and a low pass filter. Set them quite high and low on each side, I think the high pass was at something like 300Hz, and the low pass was at 5KHz.

For all you 'Yoofs' out there, take heed. You're young, use all this free time you have to learn to play guitar. I started to play at the ripe old age of 29. I have a full time job, I'm studying for a masters, and have a girlfriend. There really aint enough time to dedicate to playing like this. Play while you can, 'cause once the 'man' has you by the goolies, paying tax, paying the mortgage etc, It's game over...

Pretty much what he said man. It's called a "lo-fi" filter or the "telephone filter". It's an overused effect, but when I record bands they constantly ask for stuff like that. I set my low pass filter to 1k and my highpass to 500-800hz.

@Boneyards0905 I push hard enough so that when I pick them the notes are all clear enough. I also pick quite hard, so that I don't need that much gain, the drive comes from my picking.
If I encounter tricky riffs, I break them up into maybe 4 bar segments, practice them individually, and then add them together, one segment at a time.

@phantom0349 That's called anchoring. I personally don't like it, but there are lots of guitarists do it. I see it like this: if you've ever seen dancers practice, they always hold onto a bar for their balance, but when they perform they have to learn to be more in control and less reliant on things to hold onto. I personally think that to play to the best of your ability you need completely free wrist movement, and when you anchor you restrict your movement. Just my opinion.
