    I was working at a ski resort on Donner Summit in the early 90s, and the snowboarders were all directly tuned into the Seattle bands. Somewhere I have CDs from all the bands, they were passed out at parties. I even had a Malfunkshun CD, and I know I never bought it anywhere.

    Thanks Mark for sharing. As a retired Marine who has lost brothers due to suicide, I can relate to everything you so eloquently spoke about. Music, like scars , tell stories of want and need, of despair and triumph, of lives lost and Love revived and given. I appreciate you playing the songs that are sad and hard for you. It's relatable for many of us. Thanks! Batman and Robin going strong!

      I'm glad this video resonated with you. It's such a beautiful, heartbreaking song, and I've always loved it.
      I'm going to have to choose a happier grunge tune to show Ladi. We've done three thus far, and two of them have been total bummers. Thinking about "Spoonman" or "Wicked Garden." Something that's not quite as heavy. Thanks for sticking with us!

    Not a grunge fan at all but I LOVE Candlebox. Their musical journey and Kevins voice have really covered a diverse sound and musical style throughout the last decade+. I Love their newer music as much as the old. One of my top 2 favorite rock voices of all time.

    This song didn’t hit me back then the same way it does now. Back then, I was in a messy relationship and I interpreted it that way.
    Now, I live with someone who is legally on opiates. The “opiate crisis” has led to a couple of devastating incidents (not an OD but withdrawal related). You can’t imagine the pain of having the thought of “maybe I should just let her die and not postpone what seems inevitable”. Then hate yourself for having that thought about someone you love. I always stayed and did what was necessary to get through the crisis. Afterwards, praying I would have the same courage the next time and praying harder there won’t be a next time.

      @@LikeMindedLunatics Haha, apologies my friend. Gen Z and Alpha make me feel that way, especially when it comes to bands like My Chemical Romance and Shinedown’s early songs. And a good percentage of my friends don’t know 90s pop like I do. Hitting 30 two years ago felt like a punch to the gut, did not like. But we’re not alone and we’re still alive, these are things to cherish 😁 Plus, older you got to heal from the damage that More Than Words did to your soul by talking to Ladi about it! Though I do partially agree with you that song isn’t as sweet as it sounds.

    I always considered Candlebox more metal /hard rock than Grunge. As someone who was young during both eras the thing that made Candlewood atypical in my eyes was that they actually made use of pretty jamming guitar solos which is something that I missed during the grunge era. Grunge definitely had hard riffs but the heavy metal style intricate guitar solo was a rarity. Think of bands like Soundgarden or Nirvana and a host of others and very few of them actually bothered with guitar solos. In fact it became known as one of the characteristics of grunge that the intricate solos were stripped out and replaced with more basic, heavier repetitive riffs. For that reason I loved Candlebox and missed them as they have undergone the numerous changes over the years. Unfortunately they never recaptured the glory of that first album release. My favorite song off that album was the soulfully gut wrenching and somber "He Calls Home." Great band, thanks for this.

    • @matthewklimas6905

      agree.. they were almost a rock/grunge bridge... their newer stuff is definitely more blues based rock n roll than it is "grunge" and sometimes even heavily leaning toward heavy pop

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  11 месяцев назад

      The "grunge" category was always really loose. I feel like anyone who came out between 92-94 and had riffy guitar was labeled "Grunge."

  • @nightmoves7989
    @nightmoves7989 5 месяцев назад

    Nirvana released never mind in 91 and Candlebox released far behind in 93, Candlebox have always been considered too blues rock for grunge fans and too grunge for rock fans and they came along on the tail end of the grunge explosion, grunge would stick around for awhile but the meteoric period of bands were like a revolving door of grunge bands popping up on the scene and the bands that tried to cash in on the Seattle sound and look would slow down.
